Anne Sexton, from “Eighteen Days Without You”
So, I suppose now I have a website.
Currently experiencing 1, 2, and 4. Usually experiencing 11, 12, 14, and 16. Always willing to experience 5 and 6.
Gleeful to have overcome 8 and 9 in recent years.
Margaret Williamson Peterson’s notes from Design class at Black Mountain College in 1945, taught by Josef Albers.
“Art is an illusion.”
It has to do with how people respond to their partners' "bids."
A friend posted this on his facebook this evening. Interesting, certainly. Many of my friends are marrying this year and many have committed to very solid relationships, through ceremonies quite similar.
My two cents: Yes; It does boil down to kindness and generosity... and also, compassion and understanding (which are essentially, the same concepts). I am feeling-- I have felt for many years-- that it is really about gentleness and the ability to SEE and HEAR one-another, honestly. It is something to feel open and much more open than one has been in the past, I am learning. To be ones genuine self and see that self reflected is a thing of extreme beauty.
I am learning to open, quite truthfully, and for now, that is all I need. It’s all very simple, as it should be.
It's overcast in Toronto and so many friends emotions are matching the sky today. I felt like singing this for them; Please don't forget how amazing you are. Thank you Sharon Van Etten for writing this beautiful reminder.
Forgive the grammatical errors, timing, phrasing... I am thinking out loud.
Ok, we’ve all heard of Emma Sulkowicz, right? In case you haven’t, she’s the girl who’s been carrying her mattress around Columbia university after she was raped and her rapist was never charged.
Well now, her rapist is trying to sue the university for allowing her thesis to go forward.
Signal boost this shit, guys.
It should be obvious but it isn’t: Kenney’s immigration policy, like all immigration policy rooted as it is in colonization here and imperialism abroad, is racist. Austerity policies impact indigenous people and people of colour more which make them racist. Environmental degradation and climate change is happening through the destruction of indigenous and people of colour communities and it is racist. Kenney’s unflinching support for Israeli apartheid while kicking out Roma refugees escaping neo-Nazi violence is racist. Though it’s true that having immigration papers does not free people of colour from racism, not having them increases their vulnerability to racialized violence. And these policies and decisions are enacted (though enforcement is a different matter) with a smile and a clap, not a truncheon.

I wrote this poem 16 years ago, in grade 9; what was I feeling? Who did I read, and when, and why? I am flipping through old things tonight and feeling very, funny.
I have learned this year, on my own and through loving friends, that this is not the dress rehearsal; This is it and it is all we have. If we want to do anything with our life, we need to attempt to do it, and we need not fall toward projected fear. To see ourselves and others honestly, we need to embrace our own vulnerability and bruise our very large egos because it is only when we let go entirely that we can see how far we’ve come, and how far we have to go.
How beautiful, the unfolding of time and need...
