Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation Official Teaser Trailer
I loved your insurgent review. I am curious about the sex scene that was included in the trailer. Did that really happen or was it a simulation?
Thank you! and *spoiler*, yes it was for real, it is not part of the simulation. It happens at the factionless compound fairly near the beginning
INSURGENT REVIEW
So on Wednesday I had the privilege of walking the red carpet and attending the World Premiere for the ‘Divergent’ sequel, ‘Insurgent’, in London. I had my dress picked out, and I was beyond excited at seeing Theo James, Shailene Woodley (the other leading actors sadly couldn’t attend) and the author of the trilogy, Veronica Roth. All recording devices was confiscated so I sadly couldn’t take any photos as that included my phone.
I’m a big fan of the books so I was really excited to be among the first in the world to see it, and interested to see how much it differs to the book. I read the book a long time ago but from what I can remember, the film is relatively close to it, but a few things differ. For example, a few characters are missed out, e.g. Susan, Zeke, Robert and Cara). Uriah is in the film, however he is not named, so I’m not sure as to how they are going to include him in the next film. Additionally, as anyone would have seen in the trailers, Tris’ hair is now very short, she cuts it in the book, but thats to a bob, not a full on pixie cut.
For those who haven’t read the book, the film follows where it left off in the first film, with Tris, Four, Marcus and Caleb running away to seek refuge. They arrive at the amity faction and are being hunted by Erudite and the ultimate villain Jeanine (Kate Winslet). Jeanine is looking for Divergents, which is what Tris is, in order to perform in a simulation to unlock a box containing some unknown, vital information from the creators of the city. Along the way we see the love interest between Four and Tris (with a raunchy topless scene where Theo James is looking perf ;) ), and seeing how Tris deals with scarring events from the first film such as her parents’ death and her shooting her friend Will during the simulation. The film ends with a sort-of resolution, so there if it doesn’t do well then there isn’t a need for the next one, yet it does also leave room for ‘Allegiant’, the third film, to be filmed.
I felt that the characters were a lot more lively in this film than the first one, they had a bit more depth, with Shailene showing intense emotion during a scene where her and Four are required to take a ‘truth serum’. I still feel that Theo James is a perfect fit for the role of ‘Four’, he certainly looked the part, I was blushing every time he came on screen hahaa. Ansel Elgort was a lot more prominent in this film than the first, and showed a bit more character than his usual flat expression. Kate Winslet gave a great performance, she really is the most bad-ass villain going, she seems so lovely, with such evil intentions, and I think she portrayed this brilliantly. Miles Teller, as his follow-up to the Oscar-nominated ‘Whiplash’ added a comical element to the film, and his hair was always looking perfect somehow despite crumbling city around him.
The soundtrack was good, although not as good as the Ellie Goulding soundtrack in the first film. The graphics were insanely good, there are some real clever people out there making the CGI simulation scenes feel so intense. There is a lot of glass shattering and explosions in the film, and some amazing floating and falling shots, which is why I think the film would be amazing in 3D.
A lot of other reviews I have read have described the film as being ‘flat’ and giving it a very low rating. Although everyone is subject to their opinion, I feel this is inaccurate for my age range. If you are a teenager, and appreciate the action and intensity in the first film, and/or are lovers of the books, then I think this film will be brilliant for you. I was engrossed in the plot, although slightly different to the book, and loved the Director’s take on the book. One thing I would critique is what Tris wears in the film. She wears these sleevless jackets, and I don’t think it’s flattering on Shailene whatsoever, but I’ll let you be the judge of that. If you are the type of person who likes films to be identical to the novels, then I would recommend watching this film with an open mind, and not to think about all the changes too much, and appreciate it in a separate story in itself.
If anyone has any questions about the film, as I haven’t included everything here to avoid spoiler alerts, then feel free to ask me any questions, my inbox is always open.
Overall I feel it was a great action film, better than the first, and was an amazing experience to walk the red carpet with the celebrities. It was a much larger event than ‘The Fault In Our Stars’ UK premiere and an experience to check off my bucket list.
