It's been a min let's talk
Guys, let's talk. It's been a while since we've had a talk.
I also have a few unanswered asks sitting in my inbox, but if you have any questions or there's anything you wanna talk about, feel free to send me another one. I'm gonna be responding to them all, probably tonight or tomorrow.
Now...
This whole "all this fandom does is write smut, there's no fluff, there's no angst."
First of all, to all my mutuals who reblogged that... I love y'all, but fuck y'all. That hurts my feelings.
Am I a roach? Am I a crumb on the table? Y'all don't see me or something? I thought I was writing fluff. But fuck me, I guess.
Also so what?
If someone wants to write smut because that's what they enjoy writing or that's what they're comfortable writing, who are you to judge?
At the end of the day, it's fanfiction.
People are allowed to write the stories they want to tell. If you want fluff, write it. If you want angst, write it.
"Oh, but I can't write."
That's not my problem. That's not anybody else's problem.
We all started somewhere.
I remember the first thing I ever wrote. It was absolutely horrible. Then I tried again. I got feedback. Tried again. Got more feedback. Then I kept practicing until I was confident enough to post my work online.
What's stopping you from doing the same?
What makes you think you're so privileged that, just because you prefer one thing over another, everybody else is supposed to stop writing what they enjoy or what they're comfortable writing just to cater to you?
If you want to see it, write it.
I write for Black readers because there weren't enough stories for us. I wanted to see that change, so I became part of the change.
If you want more fluff, write it.
If you want more angst, write it.
How is that anybody else's problem but yours?
And while we're here...
This whole "Mature Era Michael wouldn't spoil you" discourse
The man was not poor.
Michael Jackson was never poor a day in his life.
Was he in debt? Yes.
Was he poor? Absolutely not.
Let's think about the tours.
Let's think about the merchandise.
Let's think about the vinyls.
Let's think about the fact that Thriller is still the best-selling album of all time.
Every time people buy Michael's merch, albums, vinyls, etc., that money goes into his estate. His estate continues to generate revenue, and the beneficiaries of his estate receive distributions from it.
Katherine Jackson's house is worth around $10 million. Michael's estate purchased it for her in 2014.
So no, Michael and his family were not poor.
Again, debt does not automatically mean someone is poor.
Which brings me back to my original point.
If somebody writes Mature Era Michael spoiling the reader and you don't like it...
Scroll.
Block them.
Don't read it.
Why are you reading something you already know you don't like just so you can complain about it afterward?
Or, and hear me out because this is a crazy suggestion
Write your own stories.
Write the Mature Era Michael you want to read.
Nobody is entitled to have strangers on the internet write stories specifically for them.
People are going to write what they enjoy writing.
People are going to write what they're comfortable writing.
You don't have to like every fanfic.
You don't have to read every fanfic.
Just keep scrolling.
And another thing...
Y'all do realize I have over 50 fanfics on my page, right?
I've written for Michael, Jaafar, Jermajesty, Prince, Paris, Marlon, Tito, Janet, Jermaine, and I'm adding Bigi to the list. I might write for Jackie too. I've got family fics. I've got Keeping Up with the Jacksons, which is literally just a fluffy, funny little reality TV series.
So when I see "there's no fluff in this fandom," I'm sitting here like, Am I invisible?
And here's the thing
If the only fics you're clicking on, liking, and reblogging are smut fics, don't you think that's what Tumblr is gonna keep showing you?
When fluff writers post, we don't get the same attention anymore. And this isn't even me making it personal. I remember when fluffy fanfics were pulling in thousands of notes. Some of my older fics did exactly that.
So if y'all hate smut so much and want more fluff, where's the support for the people already writing it?
Why aren't y'all liking it?
Why aren't y'all reblogging it?
How are fluff writers supposed to reach more people if the people asking for fluff don't even support the fluff that's already being posted?
And honestly... there are hundreds of y'all reblogging those "there's no fluff" posts. If even a fraction of y'all decided to write the stories you keep saying you want to read, we'd have way more fluff in this fandom.
Be the change you're asking everyone else to make.
Can we also stop acting like smut writers are the reason fluff gets less attention?
So many of my mutuals write smut, and their fanfics are absolutely amazing.
Why do y'all think it's okay to put them down just because they write something you don't like or don't want to read?
How is that their problem?
That's what they enjoy writing. That's what they're comfortable writing.
And let's be real. Half of the people complaining, if y'all sat down and tried to write a fanfic right now, it wouldn't even be a fraction as good as the writers you're criticizing.
How are you gonna judge somebody's writing when you won't even write?
That's not how this works.
Writers aren't competing for a trophy.
The audience decides what gets attention.
If y'all are constantly liking, reblogging, commenting on, and recommending one type of content, that's the content that's gonna get the most visibility.
And even if it didn't exist, instead of complaining about the people writing what they enjoy, make it exist.
Write it.
Since you care so much.
Another thing
Can we stop treating fanfic writers like content machines?
I swear I'll post a fanfic, and five minutes later somebody's already asking, "So when's the next one?"
Do y'all know how much work goes into writing fanfiction?
Not just physically sitting down and typing, but mentally too?
On top of that, we have real lives.
Some of us are in school.
Some of us have jobs.
Some of my mutuals are over thirty years old with children and families.
We write because we enjoy it.
Not because we owe anybody weekly uploads.
And another thing people don't seem to understand
You don't know what somebody is comfortable writing.
I don't write angst because, personally, life is already sad enough.
The world's depressing enough.
I don't need to spend my free time making myself even sadder.
Some writers love angst.
Some love fluff.
Some love smut.
I can't write smut to save my life.
Some of my mutuals probably couldn't write fluff the way I do.
And that's okay.
We all have different strengths.
That's what keeps a fandom interesting.
Finally...
Criticism without contribution.
This is exactly why I keep saying, "Write it yourself."
It's so easy to sit back and make a list of everything you think a fandom is missing.
If you think there's a gap
Fill it.
You're the one who sees the problem.
You're the one complaining about it.
So fix it.
Because that's how fandoms grow.
People see something missing, and instead of waiting around for somebody else to do it, they become the person who does.
Just because you don't like something doesn't mean everybody else has to stop what they're doing to cater to you.
If you want change, be part of it.
Don't just complain about it.
Anyway
I'm currently working on a fanfic called Golden Hour. It's a Jermajesty Jackson fanfic.
Life has just been busy, you know? Earlier this year I was writing so much because it was summer, but now everything's coming back full force. I've been getting ready for classes and taking care of a bunch of other stuff, so life has definitely been life-ing.
I'm probably not gonna be able to drop as much as I was before, but I am working on it. I'm hoping to have it finished by tomorrow or Wednesday, so thank y'all for being patient with me.
And don't forget to send me an ask if you wanna ask me anything. It doesn't have to be about writing either. We can literally talk about whatever.
Also, on a serious note about everything I said earlier, if anybody ever wants advice on their writing, I'm definitely not a professional, but I'm always happy to help in any way that I can. We all started somewhere, and if I can help somebody feel a little more confident in their writing, I'd love to.

not even gonna lie, some of y’all are so weird about black people on here.
just notice how it’s always black men being written as toxic, or cheaters, or “ghetto”.
jude bellingham, michael jackson (like, how??), jaafar jackson, lewis hamilton etc etc
just skimming the jude bellingham tags, there so many fics where people write him as some ghetto, toxic, messy, nasty guy, like are we talking about the same jude? the same jude who’s sweeter than grandma’s cookies? who comforts his opponents after matches, who gives his kid his coat when they’re doing anthems and it’s cold?? like what the fuck?
of course, yes it’s fiction, but this toxic narrative is always being pushed on black men.
it’s like white bitches have some fetish for black men and them being toxic, d’you know how fucking weird that is?? y’all heard jermajesty jackson say the n word once and people are pushing the agenda that he’s some toxic guy, what the hell is wrong with you?
and, the other side of the coin - black female characters.
notice how people will label a character as “butch”, and then you look at them, and they’re just black, or bigger, or muscular, or indigenous, or a mix of them all? notice how when people make “feminine” oc’s, they’re always white or light-skinned, and their butch oc’s are nearly ALWAYS black women?
white women need to be studied for their fetishises with black people.
