Biography
TW: absentee parents, homophobia, toxic/abusive relationship,Ā
Milo Vincent Galvez was practically born on a stage. His parents had met when both their bands had played the same show. The two had hit it off and soon they had started to collaborate with each other to make art. Soon enough they began touring around the Southern United States as eccentric indie artists. While on a stop in Las Vegas they joked about getting married there in a shotgun wedding, turns out, they werenāt really joking and got married that same night. They were so caught up in the art and love that soon his mother was pregnant with their first child who would be Miloās older brother.Ā
Their music was so charged that they ended up having four more children resulting in five mouths to feed with Milo being the second eldest. Instead of quitting music, his parents decided to keep their art going and expanded their tours. They thought the bigger the tour the more money that would flow in. For a while the childrenās grandmother watched over the five kids, but once she became too old the job was handed over to a careless nanny in her twenties. Their parents dropped in for holidays, and sometimes birthdays, but other than that they were gone. The siblings really leaned on each other during their childhood. Providing each other with the love their parents failed to show them. However, Milo ended up lost as a middle child.Ā
When Milo was presented with an opportunity to perform in his middle school play his siblings encouraged him. They loved putting together little shows with music and dances. It was undeniable that performing ran in their blood. From there on out Milo continued to perform with his schoolās drama club, they soon became a found family for Milo.
When Milo was 14 he realized that he might be gay. It wasnāt a new feeling by any means, but he had just learnt what the word really meant and it resonated with him. He saw how people got treated for being gay though. He didnāt come out for another two years, and even then he was outed by a close friend. Almost instantly peopleās minds changed about Milo. He wasnāt sure how his sibling would react, so he just stopped interacting with them all together. He was completely isolated. He kept it that way until one day his older brother forced himself into his room to talk with Milo. He was hesitant at first, but soon he ended up spilling all his feelings into the room. It was a relief to have someone he could trust.Ā
Towards the end of his high school career the homophobia Milo faced only grew. The parents of his classmates would use their childrenās social media accounts to cyber stalk him and critique everything Milo did. He deleted his accounts shortly after. He wasnāt able to take much more of it. Kids said hurtful things and no one would stick up for him, not even his drama club friends. At that point he had made himself a promise āget the hell out.ā
After graduation Milo worked odd jobs to save for a move to New York City, he wanted to try his hand at acting. He got a job in an office doing admin work. The job was stupid and meaningless to Milo, but it paid the bills. After work he would audition, and rehearse for whatever roles he did get.
While working in the city he met Frank. He was Miloās boss, but had a lot of connections to the acting scene in New York. Frank quickly took a liking to Milo. The relationship started innocently enough with Frank buying Milo lunches and coffees, but then it escalated quickly into dinners in dimly lit restaurants and drinks in Manhattan speakeasies. After a few months Milo was moving in with Frank and had stopped working to focus on acting full time.Ā
Milo found a good amount of success once he could put his full energy into acting, and Frankās connections helped too of course. Milo got small roles in plays, musicals, and even TV shows. He was finally starting to get the success he craved. Miloās favorite role was starring as Frank nā Furter in a production of Rocky Horror in a regional production of the show. The role made him realize he loved doing drag too. So with Frankās help he built up a drag wardrobe so if he wasnāt cast in anything he could at least do some drag.Ā
After a year in New York Milo couldnāt do anything without getting Frankās permission first. His reasoning? Frank said if he was going to pay for Miloās life then he deserved some say in it. Milo brushed it off, it seemed reasonable enough for him.
Like most things in their relationship Frankās controlling nature escalated. Milo could barely even leave the house now. He was isolated again, but this time he was forced into it by someone that was supposed to love him. He wanted to hang out with his friends, but Frank would obsessively call and ruin his nights, or even lock Milo in the bedroom so he couldnāt leave. He knew he needed to get out, but he couldnāt just leave. None of his money was actually his own. Out of the blue one day, Milo received a call from his older brother, it was supposed to just be an innocent call to check in, but he broke and told his brother everything. He begged for his brother to help him get out.Ā
Within 24 hours Miloās brother was at Frankās door ready to pound it down. He had rented a U-Haul and helped him pack his stuff to get him out as quickly as possible, and just like that Milo was saying goodbye to New York, the city that was supposed to be his safe haven. He didnāt want to leave, but it was his only option right now. He dreaded what waited for him back home in Texas. Thatās when his brother broke the news. They wouldnāt be going back to Austin. Miloās brother had gotten a job in a town called Blackstone Ridge, and planned on Milo staying in his spare bedroom.Ā
Once back in Texas Milo took a few weeks to recuperate from New York. One day he found himself wandering downtown, just to get to know the town a little bit better when he came across a tattoo and piercing shop. āThat could be a fun place to workā he thought to himself. He faked some confidence and walked right into the shop to see if they would take him on as an apprentice piercer, they hesitated, but ultimately agreed since they only had one piercer at the time.
Itās been two years since Milo moved to Blackstone Ridge and he has just completed his apprenticeship, and started actually working in the shop. He has also picked up drag again, performing here and there when he has the time. Since he has his own income too heās been able to move out of his brotherās home and into his own apartment. He finally feels safe.
