Behold, my art of past year and of now.
All, for love of Malenia.
How does it feel to be So Right about Percy, by the way? :]
It feels very validating, thanks 🙏
I was about to make a rant about how Percy is a POC/LGBTQ+ anyways, so this ask is perfect, lmao. Thanks for giving it.
Why Percy could be considered to be a POC:
Described as tan/brown-skinned, never described as white or pale
Honestly, the bias against him in The Lightning Thief? People assuming that a twelve-year-old kid had blown up a national monument? Not saying that it's impossible, but that usually wouldn't happen to a white boy.
In Los Angeles when he met a group of gangsters, he described them as "white rich kids". Usually white Americans don't feel the need to describe other people as white, especially because white is considered a default in the USA. A POC would absolutely consider race an important descriptor, though.
He lived in Harlem in the first book. Almost nobody in Harlem is white.
'Jackson' is also a very popular last name for Black Americans (I personally HC him as Latino, but this works too)
Why Percy could be considered bisexual:
Luke.
Do I really have to say more?
Beckendorf, too. And Apollo.
I mean, he's very specific about the way he describes people.
Thalia, Clarisse, and Silena he doesn't describe in detail.
Annabeth, Rachel, and Calypso are all described in great detail.
So are Luke and Beckendorf.
Every single time he meets Luke he has to specify that Luke is handsome. He just – he has to say it, even when Luke is trying to kill him.
Also, what with the new book – his descriptions of Ganymede are very specific, too.
(I personally believe that he's comp-het, which is when you believe that you are straight because society makes you feel like you have to be. That's why all his friends think that he's straight.)
So yeah. That's my case. BTW, if this isn't your headcanon, that's okay. This is just my personal belief.
(Also thank you Finley for asking, and also for just being friendly in general. Very nice of you. Check out his blog y'all, it's pretty cool.)
Happy birthday, Miss Ophelia!
