Heat Stroke
Summer is here definitely! It will be warm until June or if lucky this warm season will last through July. Everyone is warned about heat stroke. You should not take it lightly. Heat stroke attack can be fatal so take those warnings seriously. Last Sunday, March 19 I had a heat stroke. It came without a warning. I thought it just a sudden headache that I felt in my head when we get out into the sun at midday going to the port. My headache was painful and it felt like my brain is turning into mushy pulp inside. When we got to the port the pain in my head got so intense to the point I'm feeling that I'm fainting. I fought it because passing out my be a big problem to the people I'm with. Denise noticed that my eyes were bloodshot and she took a picture of them to show me. It were crimson red like a worst case of pink eyes. As the minutes pass by, my headache was getting worse. I'm feeling lightheaded with so much pain and I'm having difficulty breathing as well. It's like a feeling of having a heart attack. I saw my father had it years back. I got disoriented as my vision started to be erratic. I can't see the people and everything around me. It seems that my eyess were looking at a very overexposedd picture. There were not much details but everyting is so bright and so blinding. Probably it was because my eyes pupil dilated so much because of the heat stroke and panic attack. I started to panic and told everyone that I can’t breathe I might pass out. I even told them I can't see them clearly. I might be blind that moment. I thought everyone in my group can't do anything at that point except to tell Herald to ask for help. He assisted me to walk over to the barangay health center. Then he called the barangay health worker to assist me. She took my bp and I had 78/41. She told me that I have low blood or maybe due to lack of sleep and the heat stroke attack. She told me to calm down and rest. She asked me how I'm feeling. Told her that I feel like throwing up and I need to go to the comfort room. She told Herald to assist me walking to their house not far from the port so I can use their comfort room. I threw up while walking to her house. After I used the comfort room and rested a few minutes in the shade. She took my blood pressure again and it turned out normal. Good grief I was a little woozy but okay. The boat ride to Anilao port is an ordeal for me. The boat's engine noise made my worst than migraine headache to go back. I was fighting not to throw up and I was perspiring cold sweats along the way. I tried to sleep it off but the noise is like jackhammer boring through my head. I went outside at the tail of the boat to catch some fresh air and to have little relief on the boat’s engine noise. I threw up again while I was sitting at the bench and talking to the boat man. He saw it and it made him stop talking. He looked away and chose to ignore what went on. Probably he thought it's common for some passengers with weak stomach to puke during a boat trip. I only had a relief of the painful throbbing headache after I took a paracetamol with a bottle of gatorade at the grand terminal bus station. The grueling jeepney ride had just made my condition worst until we reach the terminal. I think I am lucky. I read some articles online about heat stroke. It said that some people who suffer heat stroke can get really fatal. I'm glad that I did not pass out when I had the attack or else I might be dead by now. Honestly, it came without a warning. I thought I had the worst fear of my life that day. Up to now, I’m still feeling the trauma and even a slight headache make me jumpy that I might having it again. Knowing that it is really much warm weather lately, you guys should be really careful!
