Warnings: English isn’t my first language, and this is a very sweet chapter, so just enjoy it—I hope you like it.

Michael was finishing up setting up the projector, while you finished arranging the blankets and pillows; you were both excited to spend a quiet night at home after being apart for so long due to Michael’s busy schedule.
The sound of the rain pounding against the windows began to grow louder until it was almost deafening, which was strange because it had started as just a light drizzle that afternoon, but this storm was undoubtedly going to be very strong, and that worried you a little. The last thing you wanted was for bad weather to ruin your plans, but even though you tried to stay positive, the strong wind and the lightning lighting up the sky made you doubt yourself.
Michael brushed your shoulder with his warm hand as he came up behind you and wrapped his arms around your waist.
—I think this is the worst storm we’ve had in months,— you said as you wrapped your arms around Michael’s, which were now hugging your waist. Michael rested his face on your shoulder and spoke.
—I’ve seen worse,— he said with a mocking smile.
—Of course you have, Mr. ‘I’ve seen it all,’— you said, rolling your eyes and trying to hide a smile that Michael caught.
—Hey, you’re offending me… don’t you know your wife, dear?— he said with feigned pride. —I’m very wise; you married a man of great experience,— he said as he pulled you closer to his body, making you burst out laughing.
—You’re impossible, Mikey,— you said as you caressed his hands on your waist.
Just before he could answer, a loud flash of lightning lit up the sky, but for some reason you couldn’t explain, your house was still dark, and a deep silence fell over you
—Mikey…?— you asked as you felt his grip loosen
—Yes?—
—I don’t know if I’ve gone blind…— you said as you looked around, —but can you swear to me that the power didn’t go out?—
—Hmm… I’m afraid so, my love,— he said as he tried to find you in the dark, but when a flash of lightning lit up the room, you just jumped up and grabbed him tightly around the neck, leaping on top of him
—It can’t be!— you said as you tried not to fall, —Why does this have to happen now?— you said as Michael let out a little laugh. It wasn’t a secret that you were a little afraid of the dark, and while Michael always respected that, at that moment he couldn’t help but smile at your reaction.
—It’s okay, princess,— he said as you slowly let go. —Let’s go find some candles and everything will be fine,— he said as he took your hands and kissed you on the lips.
—Oh, Mikey, you don’t know how much I adore you,— you said, smiling at him, —but wipe that smile off your face,— you said, causing his smile to widen, and you just gave him a little poke. —Stop teasing your wife.—
Trying to keep from laughing, he spoke. —I’m sorry… it’s just, haha, you should have seen yourself—you jumped like a cat,— he said as he tried to pull you into his arms again, and despite your best efforts, you let out a laugh.
—Enough already, help me find some candles,— you said with a smile.
—Okay. But first I need a kiss——when you said that, you just raised an eyebrow in confusion——What? It takes away my fear… it makes me brave.—
—What a strange excuse,— you said as you tried to find his face with your hands, —but it works——and before Michael could answer, you lifted his hands to his face and kissed him tenderly——Well… we can go look for those candles.—
—Of course we can,— he said, spellbound after that enchanting kiss

You’d been holding Michael’s hand the whole time you were looking for the candles, but you couldn’t find any
—Why don’t we go to that cabinet?— you said, already exhausted from being in the dim light
—Because there’s nothing there, honey,— Michael said as he guided you. —Be patient; we’ll find them eventually.—
—You said the same thing twenty minutes ago, Michael——and just as you were about to finish your sentence, a loud BOOM!! echoed through the room——For God’s sake, Michael!— you said upon hearing a groan
—Ouch… I think I hit my head,— he said, rubbing his head
—You think so?— I say it definitely did,— you said as you rubbed his head. —If you’d listened to me, you wouldn’t have hit your head."
—Well... you can go if you want,— he said, trying to challenge you, though clearly this man wouldn’t let you take even half a step without him.
—Well... you know what? I’ll do it. I’ll go alone,— you said as you let go of his hand and headed off in another direction.
—Are you sure you can go alone?— he asked with a smile on his lips. You just ignored him, but when you felt something move, it wasn’t even a minute before you ran back to him.
—You know what… I think I’m too much of a coward to go alone,— you said as you took his hand again.
—I told you…— Michael said, smiling.
—But seriously, I remember seeing candles in there,— you said, convincing him, and after bumping into the furniture a few times, you finally reached the drawer. When you opened it, you spotted a candle. —Aha! I told you there was one here,— you said, sticking your tongue out at him.
—Yeah, yeah, you won,— Michael said as he watched you, his eyes lost in watching you clown around. He loved it when you simply acted like a little girl; that man forgot everything when he saw you having fun.
—MICHAEL!— you shouted, trying to get his attention. —Honey, you’re finally listening… look at this,— you said, pointing to a box, which he soon pulled out of the drawer. —What is it, honey?—
—I don’t know, it looks old,— he said as he lifted his face and looked at you. —Didn’t you put it here?—
—I don’t remember,— you said as he opened the box, and a silence filled the room when he did. —Michael… how are you going to see if you don’t light the candle?— you asked as you watched him bring the unlit candle close to the box to illuminate it.
—You’re right,— he said, realizing his mistake. —I don’t know what I’d do without you, honey.—
—You might have set the house on fire,— you said, laughing as you lit the candle.
—I love you,— Michael said, and before
he could say anything else, you kissed him. The kiss was slow and gentle, but when
Michael put his hand behind your neck, you knew it wouldn’t end anytime soon, so
you pulled away a little
—Can we see what’s inside the
box? I’m really dying of curiosity,— you said as you bit your lip
—Okay…— he said, sighing and
caressing your cheek, —but then we’ll finish this,— he said, looking at you, and you could only
nod with a smile on your lips. God had blessed you with this man,
and you couldn’t be happier

With the candle now lit, you both
walked over to the blankets you’d laid out and sat down together, so the
cold wouldn’t freeze you. Michael wrapped his arms around you, while you began
to take things out of the box.
The first thing you took out was a
napkin with a number and a heart next to a small —MJ— written below—
—Oh! I remember that letter,— Michael said. —It was the first time I wrote to you.—
—I remember,— you said with a smile. —You gave it to me at that café.—
—You almost killed me that day.—
—I almost killed you because you rolled it into a ball and threw it at me,— you said, looking him in the eye. —You hit me in the eye—that just proved how bad your aim is.—
—Hey! I gave it to the waitress, but I threw it thinking it was trash,— he said, trying to make an excuse.
—Kitty… excuses,— you said, mimicking him, making Michael burst out laughing. —That’s what you get for having terrible aim.—
—But it worked; I won you over pretty fast,— he said as he took a bracelet out of the box. —Look at this; it was the first gift you gave me when we started dating.—
—Aww, you dressed up that day,— you said as you brushed it with your fingers. —I almost died of fright when I saw you with that beard and that big old man’s belly,— you said, laughing.
—You can’t deny it was a really good costume,— he said as he planted a kiss on your shoulder.
—It was… until you laughed and they recognized you.—
—Well, but while I was running around, you kept looking at the bracelet,— he said with a laugh, —and you got the best one,— he said before kissing you on the lips, but it didn’t last long once you saw something glinting.
—Look at this!— you said, taking it out of the box. —My perfume was here all this time. Why on earth was it here?— —Michael…?— you said, looking at him seriously. It was your favorite perfume, and the bottle was incredibly shiny.
—Oops… I took it when I visited your house,— he said, smiling shyly. —Your birthday was coming up, and I wanted to give you a nice gift… I thought it would be okay to give you a similar perfume, but I had to take it.—
—I thought I’d lost it,— you said, looking at the bottle. —Anyway, thank you. The gift was beautiful,— you said, cupping his face and kissing him.
—Oh, look,— he said, picking up a bracelet. —Here it is—you lost it the first time you slept over,— he said, making air quotes with his fingers.
—Why are you doing that?— you said, smiling, not understanding
—Because the last thing I did was let you sleep, doll,— he said, winking at you
Your face flushed immediately. —Stop saying things like that,— you said nervously as you recalled that night, and before Michael could speak again, you pulled out a letter that was buried under all the other things.
—I remember this letter,— Michael said, taking it from your hands, and when he did, something fell out of it. You picked it up and saw that they were old photos of the two of you. —It was our first date as an official couple.—
—It was the only time we went out without you having to wear so many disguises,— you said as you looked at the photos where he was wearing a giant hat and a scarf that he took off for the picture. —It was a beautiful night.—
—It certainly still is,— he said as he looked at you, because, although the photo was lovely, without a doubt the best part of it was that he saw that same smile on your lips every day, and he thanked God for being able to keep seeing it.
As you looked at the photo, you instinctively reached for Michael’s hand; the memory of that first date in the photo made your heart and eyes fill with tears.
—Hey, honey. What’s wrong?— Michael asked as he wiped away your tears.
—Nothing, it’s just that… it’s beautiful to have this,— you said as you dried your tears. —The best thing that ever happened to me was meeting you,— you said, smiling as he kissed you and wiped away your tears.
For a few seconds, neither of you spoke.
The rain kept pounding against the windows, and the candle’s flame flickered gently with each gust of wind. The box lay open on your lap, filled with little mementos that had survived the passing of the years.
—It’s strange,— you murmured as you looked at the contents. —When we put these things away, we never thought they’d end up here.—
Michael looked down at the box and smiled.
—I suppose not.—
You picked up the old napkin with his number written on it and let out a little laugh.
—Look at all this. A napkin, a bracelet, some photographs… they seem like trivial things.—
—But they’re not,— he replied softly.
You looked up at Michael.
—No, they’re not.—
Because every object held a moment. A conversation, a date, a shared laugh, a hug, or a promise made years ago.
Michael took your hand in his.
—Do you know what the best part of all this is?—
—What is it?—
—That the best part of us isn’t in that box.—
You looked at him, confused, as he wiped away a few tears from your cheeks.
—It isn’t?—
He shook his head.
—No. Because we keep creating new memories every day.—
You felt your heart swell with tenderness, and you threw yourself at him, wrapping your arms around him.
After so many years, so many tours, trips, goodbyes, and reunions, I still found ways to fall in love with you just as easily as I did at the beginning.
—I think this has been one of my favorite nights.—
Michael kissed your hair.
—Mine too.—
—I love you, applehead,— you said as you kissed him.
—Applehead… it’s been a long time since I heard you call me that,— he said as he cupped your face in his hands and planted little kisses on it.
—I know… I just read it in that letter,— you said, pointing to it.
—Oh! I didn’t read it,— he said as he opened it and began to read, but as soon as he looked at it, his lips formed a mischievous smile. —Well… I remember perfectly how we ended that date,— Michael said with a mischievous smile. —Read it, honey, you’re going to love it.— Curious, you took it from his hands.
You had barely managed to read a few sentences when you quickly closed it, put it back in the box, and locked it. —Michael... you were so bold,— you said, blushing, while he could only burst out laughing. —Don’t laugh—if anyone reads those letters, they’ll think we spent all our time in bed,— you said, laughing. —No one should read them.—
—You’re right about that; they’re just for us,— he said as he moved the box aside and pulled you closer to him. —But one thing we can’t deny is that half the time I had you between the sheets,— he said, smiling mischievously and planting a kiss on your lips
—You’re impossible, Michael.—
—I know, but you loved it.—
—I definitely love you,— you said before the two of you closed the little space that remained with a long, sweet kiss.
In the end, the storm didn’t let up, the movie was canceled, but you two enjoyed your night, filled with laughter, letters from Michael, gifts from you, and lots of kisses… which, after a while, Michael turned into something more, but that’s a story for later…
