Mina knows at the very least that this hard for him, but she knows that it's a good thing if he wants to come back. This is practice for college and being around people, and making friends, and making connections. This is a safe space for him to continue his journey to being as close to human as he could.

Not 'real' he was always real...but he was slowly discovering his humanity.

"We can," she promised him, and went to lead him out.

Luckily there wasn't a crowd waiting to meet him like she worried. They were getting things secure for the night. Most of them waved, gave out 'Hi Mina" and "Hi Armand" like they knew him for years. But no one came over really, they'd probably all want to chat in the morning when they had new stories to tell about what they did that night.

"Hang on," Mina ran into the cabin to grab some blankets. it looked ramshackle on the outside, but in the inside it was cozy and warm. There was a full bed on the far side of the wall with a quilt and dresser

Mina came back out and showed him the ladder so they could climb up and sit together,

Strange start of the day, decided I would pick up breakfast instead of just bringing something, accidentally left my wallet at home. Went inside to use Apple Pay then notice my tire was low. Mina had every reason to doubt. He'd failed so many times, he'd disappointed her. Things that should've been about her had been mysteriously made about him and Mina couldn't do it again, especially not here.

"We need to be careful," she told him, "We don't have our allies here. At least as far as we know."

Because who ever knew where Armand was.

"Come on," she told him, "Lets go walking."

Maybe MIna could remember her way back home.

Daniel knew there was nothing he could truly say to convince her that he wouldn’t let her down this time. Only his actions would show her. All he could do was be there for her and let her see that he was a better man now. He didn’t blame her for doubting him. He’d do the same if he was her.

He walked close beside her. He didn’t know this place. He knew it and been a while since Mina had been here too. How much was the same? How much had changed? How did she feel about it?

He finished his cigarette off and nodded. She was right as usual. They didn’t have their allies here. It was possible Armand may or may not be lurking but Daniel wouldn’t count on him to actually help Mina if they got into trouble. The nicotine in his veins settled the buzz in his nerves a tiny bit. It wasn’t as good as drugs, but it had to be enough for him these days. They had survived a long time hunting scary monsters without the vampires help. Surely they could survive whatever ghosts awaited Mina here.

He looked at Mina and she appeared much calmer on the outside than she probably felt inside. She was the strongest person he knew but she had to be having her own emotions about this trip. He hated that he’d hurt her in the last. He couldn’t deny it, even though it had mainly been unintentional. He never wanted to hurt her, but he did and he had to take responsibility for that. The first step was admitting you had a problem or whatever they said in AA. He wished he could take all those moments back, but he couldn’t.

“How does it feel to be here?” He asked her. In the last he hated talking about feelings. But things were different now. He was never going to be a perfect husband but he could try his best to be even half of what she deserved. “Things changed much?”

It felt like Mina stood around waiting for him to make a mistake and she knew that wasn't fair but she had been burned too much to really want to try and get her hopes up again for them to be dashed.

"Where do you think he is if he's here?" Mina asked, "Hiding behind cars or perched on top of the buildings like a bug eyed Batman?"

Armand would probably love to be Batman.

Mina was quiet as he asked his question, "It's all so modern now, none of it feels like it did. I know it's all bound to change, I just....don't feel anything."

And that was devastating her.

Home wasn't home anymore.

She walked quietly, fighting emotions and went to stand in front of her old home. It used to be a small house but it'd been built on, remodeled and turned into flats. Any...presence the old world had was long gone.

"YOu can't go home again," she said bitterly, and then felt a sob rise up.

Daniel was trying very hard not to think of Armand. Yet, he couldn’t help imaging for a moment where Armand might be lurking. That was all it took.

For one suspended second, the world faded away. The sounds of cars and people and even Mina all disappeared. Daniel felt Armand. He felt him through their bond as if all that existed in the world was him. They were tethered together forever, maker and fledgling. The bond would not break no matter how many times Daniel wished to sever it.

They Mina spoke again and it snapped Daniel out of it. The city rushed back all at once.

Home. That word was heavy. Daniel had once grown up in a house with his parents who were so disappointed in him. His mother unhappy and vacuuming on Valium. His father an alcoholic. Daniel wasn’t sure that house ever was a home. He’d left it as soon as he could. He never looked back, never missed it.

He’d met Mina. He remembered the shitty motel room where Nina had stayed by his side as he withdrawled from drugs. She never flinched when he was sweaty and vomiting and angry. They barely knew each other then… yet they had fit together somehow as if they were always meant to be. They had not been apart much since.

They traveled so much together. They didn’t have a real home. The closest was when they temporarily took refuge with friends and his werewolf boyfriend. That almost seemed like a lifetime ago now. Things changed but Mina had been the one constant in his life. She remained by his side through it all.

Daniel thought of her long existence before he was even born. He thought of Dracula. He thought of Jonathan. He wondered what her home looked like then. He didn’t know if he could ever give her the home she may have once imagined.

They had a big house they shared with Lestat and Louis, but Daniel knew that wasn’t what Mina had exactly dreamed of. It was a complicated dynamic they all had and Armand continued to haunt the narrative like a ghost. Meanwhile, Mina had become the thing she once hunted and Daniel’s guilt was enormous.

He reached for her, wrapping his arms around her and holding her close. “I’m so sorry, Mina,” he told her. “I know this was your home. But home doesn’t have to be a place, you know. Things change, but you and me… our love… that will never change. You are my home.“

Mina let him embrace her, felt the tears falling down her face, and she only let it happen for a moment before shei quickily wiped her tears away and squeezed his hand, she focused hard and slowed down time.

She wouldn't be able to hold it long. She rushed into the front doors and searched the front of it for any sign of anything that might have looked familiar.

But there wasn't.

and Mina stepped out and let the door close before she lost control and the world started moving again.

She reached out for his hand, "Lets go to the cemetary."

They'd probably be done in about two days.
