HOW TO: BUILD A STUDY SPACE
rid all distractions
make sure your study area is away from the tv, the phone, your family/friends
if you are using your laptop, use a browser extension to block certain websites + +
turn your phone off !!
clear the space
declutter the study area so you can have maximum movementĀ
itāll also make you feel more comfortable and less cramped !
light
try choose a spot with good natural light !!!
natural light will give the area some warmthĀ
if not? buy a lamp/use one from home that provides you with good lighting, it is better than nothing
spice it up
try and also make it your ownĀ
buy some plants??Ā
put some pictures of you and your friends, your dog etc.
put motivational posters + quotes up!Ā
this will make you feel more comfortable and relaxed whilst studying !!
have a comfy chairĀ
ok to me this is so important
nothing is worse than studying for long periods of time and then your butt begins to ache!!!Ā
pls try and get a comfy chairĀ
if not? put a pillow under your butt, so much better !
use ambient noiseĀ
for some people music works really well, and that is so good !!
for others, it doesnāt!Ā
i suggest listening to rain, to coffee chatter, or some classical music, or even a soundtrack from your favourite movie or tv showĀ
have all the stuff you need before you start
make sure you donāt have to keep leaving every 5 mins to get somethingĀ
plan what youāre going to do, get everything you need, and then head inĀ
now actually study
make sure you have also created a space that is practical and promotes productivityĀ
then use it!
tailor it to your needs
there ya go!! i hope this was helpful in some wayĀ (ļ¾āć®ā)ļ¾*:dļ¾ā§

ā°āā® BACK 2 SCHOOL SERIES Ā ā°āā®
Iām back with another segment ofĀ āBACK 2 SCHOOL SERIESā. This time, Iām bringing some things that Iām keeping in mind for the new term. Most of these things are for the new term however, if Iāve posted this too late and youāre already back at school, it will still benefit you!Ā
p.s. if you guys would like to see my other post in theĀ āBack 2 school seriesā, please click hereĀ
13 Study Methods to try this year
This year Iāll be heading into year 13, so I decided to write 13 study ideas I will be trying to do
1: Use your syllabus to make a revision guide
These revision notes from vbio were incredibly useful when I was studying for my biology exams. They were focused, concise and gave all the answers you would need for the exams. Thatās why revision notes that literally use the syllabus as a guide are pretty rad. I think that this year when revising I will return to look at the syllabus and directly take notes from that.
2: Study your Flashcards before bed
This study showed that studying just before you go to sleep increases the amount that you remember of what you study. I wouldnāt recommend cramming at 11 before you go to sleep though, instead look over your notes and revise just before you go to sleep.
The easiest thing to study before you sleep is flashcards, which are simple to make. If you want them on your phone, there are several apps, including Memrise and Brainscape. If this doesnāt suit you, you could re-read your notes or watch youtube videos- as long as you donāt fall asleep during them.
3: Use 30/30 for long study sessions
30/30 is an app which allows you to make a list of what you need to do, then assigning an amount of time to that task. This is great if you have several assignments or subjects and you want to get them all over with in one sitting. It also allows you to schedule your breaks so that you donāt rest too long. It also is great for workout timing and getting up in the morning if you have a routine.
I used it for a while last year and I honestly donāt know why I stopped. It has pretty colours and is very simple to use. Itās available on the Apple Store.
4: Donāt make Flashcards of everything
Last year when I revised before my exams I made flashcards. Although they were very useful, writing them all out and was very time consuming. I made sure to write down every key point, even if I definitely knew that point.
That was a bit of a mistake, instead I should have only made flashcards of what I couldnāt quite get. It would have saved me time, allowing me to focus on other things.
5: Use Google for online study groups
When used correctly study groups can be very good. They can be motivating, allow help in areas you donāt understand, help share resources and teaching others can help you remember better. A lot of people donāt do study groups because they have nowhere to go, feel awkward asking people to meet up or all live far apart.
A solution is to use google. Google Docs allows you to upload documents onto the group, and if that fails setting up a group email chat is a simple way to make an online study group. Other apps like the calendar, docs and slides mean you can easily share once you get the hang of it.
6: For exercise do the 7 minute workout
I think Iāve heard that exercise helps with studying about 100 times. You can always do little tasks like going for a short walk, or doing some stretches between our studying. However a lot of exercise breaks either take ages, like tennis, or usually require you to go far from your study spot, like swimming or going to a gym.
An alternative I found recently was the 7 minute workout, which is a short workout with simple moves like step ups, squats, tricep dips and pushups. You need basically no equipment and the site times it for you so you donāt do too little or too much.
7: Make work you can post on tumblr
Chances are you probably already make lots of posters, notes and essays for school, so why not do some of it on your computer or scan it onto your computer? If you have a studyblr thereās a lot of people who would want to look at your resources.
Posting your resources online also means you can possibly get feedback from people who notice mistakes or have more to add. It also means you might check more or try harder because you donāt want to put up a bad post. It also will probably give you more followers.
8: Put your planner on your phone
This year I wonāt be using a paper diary at all. I will still have notebooks and occasionally put reminders or lists on my wall, but if youāre anything like me, a paper planner doesnāt work. It can seem fun and pretty to have a planner with colour coding, pretty stickers and nice writing, but thatās very time consuming. For me personally, the time spent planning takes up the time Iāve saved by organising myself.
Instead this year Iām going to completely do my planning on my phone. Iāve already used my calendar last year to remind me of my subject and everyone knows the put your timetable as your lock screen tip. There are several to do list apps and organisers. My personal favourite is MyHomework, which allows you to input homework assignments, and your classes. My favourite thing is it automatically assumes your work is due next lesson, so I donāt need to type it in most of the time.
9: Change your computer brightness for better sleep
If you stay on your computer past 9 or 10, which you probably do, you probably know that the light can make falling asleep harder. Flux is an app you can get for your computer which adjusts the light so that your screen gets less bright during the evenings and night time.
Sleep is pretty important for having a good day and memory, so reducing the effect of computer screens is always good. Sleepy time also can tell you when to wake up or go to sleep
10: Look at your lesson beforehand and print off powerpoints
This is a lot easier if your college/school has a decent online system. For some of your classes your powerpoints of the lessons or lectures may already be online. Print these off before the lesson and have a look through. You donāt have to fully understand everything (after all the lesson is there to teach you it), but just have a general idea. It means you can know what questions to ask in the lesson and be slightly ahead of the game.
This is also good for people who have social anxiety as a way of not being shocked by groupwork. Usually there will be a slide in the presentation or notice on the powerpoint that shows there will be group work in that lesson. You can prepare yourself for this then.
11: Do Things You Enjoy Learning
This doesnāt really apply to the list of āThings I didnāt do last year but want to this yearā, however it applies to one of the main things I learnt last year. You need to study things you like. This doesnāt mean that you have to like every single bit of the course. It means that you have to be interested in the topic overall, or at least have some sort of motivation of something youāll enjoy in the future, such as a career.
If you completely hate a subject and have no motivation for it, it wonāt help you. If all your subjects are like this, no matter how much people tell you itās great or how good your grades in it are, youāll be miserable learning it.
12: Write down your goals
This is pretty self explanatory. But think about what your goals are? Often people are one of two types. A) They have no idea what they want to do at all. B) They have an exact idea of what they want, i.e: they want this course at this uni and this job afterwards. But they donāt have any goals beyond that.
Try to think about your wider goals, just picking a career is not only difficult but also a bit unrealistic. Hardly anyone has the same jobs nowadays, even people with vocational skills like nurses, electricians or hairdressers change jobs. Think about smaller things you want to do, places you want to see, things you want to learn that are not jobs. Build up a larger picture of what you might like, maybe you want to be able to own a horse, or live somewhere where you can walk to the sea. Small dreams like these can be not only motivating, but help with your major life decisions.
13: There isnāt really any way round working hard
The unfortunate truth is that there is no way to get round working hard for your studies if you want to push yourself to the best you can do. Yes, there are many tips to reduce the amount of time you need to spend. Yes, there are ways to make it interesting. Yes, doing the things youāre good at and love makes it way better. However you cannot get round that youāll have to work hard. Youāll also have to do things you donāt like, but you have to think about your happiness.
By happiness, Iām referring to your long term happiness, not the short term. Would it be better for me to avoid job interviews now because I am socially awkward? No, it wouldnāt. Because in the future I will need not to be awkward. Delaying it now will only make it more stressful, and hence make me less happy.
Sometimes youāve got to the bad stuff to get to the good. And even when you get to the āgoodā, thereāll still be bad stuff you have to do, there isnāt a paradise waiting for you in 10 years.
Make flashcards on the computer or a tablet so you donāt waste time writing them, Brainscape is really good. Depending on what you are studying for, be wary of rote-learning. Application is really important.
eleven little self care tips for students
Get enough sleep. Your brain needs it. Set yourself a ābed timeā and fall into the routine of going to bed and waking up at the same times each day.
Drink water and lots of it. Aim for 2 litres a day. This oneās easy, you can do it. Ditch the juices and carbonated beverages, just add a slice of lemon to your water if you feel like something fancy.
Allow yourself to switch off. Donāt be afraid to read books that have nothing to do with your studies. Go to the cinema. Work out. Take your mind away from your workload.
Take care of your skin. Wash your face every morning and night. Moisturise after every shower and bath. Donāt go to bed with your make-up on, no matter how tired you are.
Talk to your friends and family about something other than school. Donāt let your studies detach you from the things going on around you.
Work out. Even just once a week, or whenever you can. Go for a walk or a run, maybe just for 15 minutes. Follow along with a YouTube exercise video from the comfort of your own home or try out some yoga moves.
Make time for your hobbies. Studying is your full time job, but thereās plenty of hours left in the day. Donāt neglect the things you love.
Cook. Sometimes all we have time for is microwave noodles, but donāt fall into the habit of relying on the basics. Youāll feel the difference.
Donāt forget to laugh. Watch a hilarious film. See a comedian at a local venue. Watch funny videos on YouTube. Reminisce with friends. Itāll do you good.
Ditch the caffeine. Donāt rely on Starbucks. Itās delicious but you donāt need it. Save up all the money youād usually spend on coffee and treat yourself to something instead.
Make your bed every morning. Youāll be grateful at the end of a long day when you can get into a cosy bed that doesnāt look like you just rolled out of it.
Study LikeĀ āThe Brightest Witch of Her Ageā
If youāre a potterhead you must be familiar with this brilliant witch. Yep! Hermione Jean Granger!Ā
Known asĀ āThe brightest witch of her ageāHermione always on the top of her class. She even brewed a difficult potion in the second year, solved Prof. Snapeās riddle, and the coolest of all, punch Draco Malfoy on the face! (Sorry, I just canāt help it)Ā
In this article, I would like to share how we could be āThe Brightest Student in The Classā just like Hermione. Okay, letās start!
1. Prepare yourself before school
Well, back to the first time The Golden Trio meet at Hogwarts Express, Hermione confidently said that she already read all her books and practice some spells. Preparing yourself before school is really important. You will be step ahead from your friends. Take your books a week before the school start and take a look at chapters you will learn during semester. I always do that before I start school. I usually read the first chapter from each subjects that I will learn that semester and make a summary from what I read. It help you, really. Especially when you have 14 subjects that you have to take at school *huft*
2. Pay attention to your teacher
If Hermione didnāt pay attention to Herbology, Ron would be dead because of devilās snare. If she didnāt pay attention to Prof. Flitwick, We wouldnāt see her make a feather fly. Pay attention to your teacher! You may find some information that you canāt get in your textbook but it come out during the exams. I have this kind of teacher, so whenever she say something important, I always write it down. And thatās why the next step would beā¦
3. Take a note!
Yes! Remember although some of the class are really boring, it wonāt kill you if you take a note. And beside, taking a note make you stay awake during class. During Prof. Binns class, Harry and Ron started to play Hangman but Hermione keep writing down on her book, and when the exams start, the boys have to borrow Hermioneās note. See?You never know when you gonna need it. Ā It doesnāt have to be clean and neat at the time, just write it as long as you understand what you have written. Then at home, you could take out your note and write it all over again.Ā
4. Donāt hesitate to ask
Hermione asks when she wanted to know more about Chambers of Secrets. She even arguing with Umbridge because of that-kindergarten-DADA-Textbook. By asking and think critically we could understand what we learn better. You donāt have to shy, just ask your teacher, they wonāt eat you anyway. I found this phrase that sayĀ āJust ask; you may look stupid for 10 seconds but better than look stupid for your whole lifeā and I agree with that.Ā
5. Speak it out
Donāt hesitate to answer the question or aguing some facts with your friends or teacher during discussion. It helps you in many way. Especially in critical thinking, elaborate argument, speaking, and etc. And the bonus is, some teacher will pay attention to you and watch your back in the class and may give you some points in the end! Ten points to Gryffindor!
6. Practice, practice, practice!
Yep! Your knowledge have no value if you havenāt practicing. In the fifth year, Harry, Ron and Hermione along with DA members practicing their skills in Defense Against the Dark Arts. The results? an happy O.W.L report card! You donāt have to push yourself so hard. Just like them, start from small step. For example, you could practice math by anwering five question everyday. and after a week, you could adding to 10 questions/day. No need to study overnight for exams and you donāt have to be startled if your teacher suddenly saidĀ āOkay! Today we are going to have a quizā because you always ready!
7. Reading
Itās hardly to miss during this series, but we always see Hermione with books, even when theyāre on the run! Thatās why Ron said this,Ā āThatās Hermione, when in doubt, go to the libraryā Reading makes you smarter and I think everyone agree with this. Your memory will improve, more knowledge, vocabulary expansion and many others. What I mean with reading in this is NOT reading your textbooks. Reading your textbooks is a good thing, but better to touch books outside your textbooks. If youāre not a reading person, you could start by picking some classic children fairytale or magazines. If youāre into reading already, I dare you to try genres that 180degrees different from your shelf now. Iām going to give you links to reading list that I suggest you to try in another post.Ā
8. Enjoy it
Last but not least is to enjoy the process of studying itself. Hermione could survive her third year because she considering studying as a fun activities. She even take Muggle studies and still get excited about it! My online tutor saidĀ āThe highest achievement of studying is when you found yourself enjoy itā Because when you enjoy it, you could understand it better and take you to the highest level of knowledge.Ā
Ps: Feedback welcome! :)

Iām sure we all know how tricky time management and productivity can be, and also how crucial it is so be good at it to succeed. So, Iād like to share a strategy of effectively managing all of those tasks you have at hand!Ā
Introducing Dwight Eisenhower, 34th president of the United States. He lived a super productive life, and during his presidency he implemented many transformational programs including NASA and the Atomic Energy act. Before then, he was a 5 star general in the US army, serving as the supreme commander, he was also the president of Columbia University⦠I could go on.Ā
My point is, he did all of this while still having time for personal interests and hobbies like painting and golfing. He was amazing at time management, and his most famous method of handling tasks, is called the Eisenhower Matrix.Ā
Itās a method of prioritising and sorting out your to-dos based on urgency and importance. Ā
It is super helpful is making us question what is important and actually necessary to do. I think that we often fill up our time with tasks that do not help us in reaching our core goals, and this method helps us narrow down our todos, saving us from wasting time, energy, and resources.
The 2nd and 3rd quadrant (not urgent important, urgent-not important) is what really minimises our productivity, if not properly managed and scheduled
I personally think its a fairly good way of understanding all that you have to do, what you should do first, and how you can deal with the rest. You donāt have to necessarily plan everything out this way, but its a good mindset to adopt when managing your workload.Ā
Iām so so awful at being concise (Iām so sorry for the long post!!) But I help this has helped you guys. Hopefully Iām going to post a printable of the matrix in the near future, so keep an eye out for that :)
What is important is seldom urgent and what is urgent is seldom important. -Dwight Eisenhower
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS I JUST LOVE YOU
