Fat Acceptance
I’m against fat acceptance, but I’m for body positive thinking. There’s a big deference fat acceptance is all about health at every size and not caring how unhealthy it is. They think it’s okay to be 400 pounds . Body positive thinking is more of knowing you’re unhealthy but you are taking steps to become healthy and love your body. Big difference.
I don’t think that you’re right about what exactly the goals of fat acceptance are, because you’re putting forth the idea that isn’t exactly correct.
Fat acceptance, simply put, is accepting that that’s the body that you have, and you shouldn’t have to worry so much that it causes you to break down because everyone else is making fun of it. I’m nearly 300 pounds, and I’ve been hanging around 293 for the past three months. I’ve changed my diet, I’ve exercised a hell of a lot more than I use to, and still I hang around 293.
Part of fat acceptance is being able to accept that this is the body that you have currently, and there’s no sense in stressing out about it (stressing about my body has actually caused me to gain more weight over the years than lose it).
Part of it is also loving your body (as in, you don’t have to hate it just because it’s not a size 2). I know that I’m not exactly at my healthiest right now, but I’m as healthy as I can be for the moment (I have no medical problems besides migraines, but I’ve had those for a long time now). I love the way that I look for right now.
Sure, there are some within the fat acceptance community that could give less than a fuck about their bodies, and think that everyone is in tip top shape at all sizes, and think that being over 400 pounds and staying over 400 pounds is totally a-okay. Obviously, they know it’s not, but that’s their prerogative, and they’ll suffer for it.
But, of course, you’re entitled to your own opinion, and you can keep it if you want to. I’m not here to change it. I just wanted to give some insight that comes straight from a fat person, and not a skinny person who thinks that they are an expert on what it’s like to be fat or what the fat acceptance movement is standing for.
There’s a difference . YOU TRY TO BE HEALTHY. You’re not sitting here complaining that you can’t walk 10 ft without dying of asthma. These women who are for fat acceptance think it’s okay to be like that without TRYING to be healthy. You love your body and you take care of it. I get that people can’t help being a certain weight but it’s definitely not okay for some of these women to say it’s okay to be unhealthy. That’s what I’m trying to say. Im not trying to act like I know everything. I just simply don’t like the fat acceptance. You can be fat and healthy. These girls promote being unhealthy. That’s not cool.
Of course. I’m not disagreeing with that.
However, promoting obesity =/= accepting your body in the shape that it’s in for the moment. That’s what I’m hoping the takeaway will be.
i understand what your saying, and i agree with you, i didnt mean for my message to be taken the wrong way
