Poll - New Features

A couple months ago I developed a series of Minecraft feature ideas and submitted them as a poll on minecraftforum.net. With over 1200 votes, I think the poll was a success. One of the features, the map item, is currently in development, although I doubt this was thanks to my poll.

Stairs - Icon, mods, fixes....

Im sure im not the only one thats annoyed by the fact that you need 6 wooden plank blocks to craft a set of wooden stairs, but when you take them down, you only get 1 wood each. I hope Notch changes this in some way, but more importantly I hope he fixes the bug that appeared in 1.5 which makes some stairs look like they have a dark shaddow. 

(Does the stair icon look strange to anyone besides me?)  

I would love to try out a mod that would let you change the orientation on stairs. With this you could make towers that are more round. You could also make ceilings nicer if you put them upside down. One final mod I would be interested in would be to make stairs for corners, this image will show what I mean.
