“hey, yuuki-kun!~” the girl chirped happily, walking torwards him. as she stands in front of yuuki, she hands him a box, containing biscuits. besides living under the same roof, the two humans never interacted before. as marin still didn't get the chance to break the ice and get to know better the new the new addition in the mukami household besides for his name, she thought she could get him some pastries to break the ice. hopefully he does like strawberry jam?
“i got these biscuits for you! i hope you do like these!~ welcome to the household!!!!"
Yuuki was completely taken by surprise at the call of his name, still not really used to people talking to him. He turned towards the source of the voice, finding Marin, another human living in the Mukami manor. Having only started living there a few days ago himself and being rather shy, he hadn't interacted with Marin much.
Noticing the biscuits in the girl's hands, his eyes widened when they presented to Yuuki as a gift.
"…!!? T-These are…f-for me…? …A-Are you sure…?"
He seemed hesitant to accept the gift, fidgeting with his hands a bit as he spoke.
the purplette noded excitedly, handing him the box
"yes, of course!~ i got these from the bakery at the mall near our school, trust me when i say they make the best pastries with no doubt!!!" she claps her hands, clearly she is a happy-go-lucky kind of person. "especially their chiffon cake is SO good, i totally really reccomend it!"
noticing she might have gone a little overboard with too much talking she stops, a smile still on her lips.
"moving onto a new place is hard, and i can imagine how it must have been to move this suddently and as a human, into a house full of vampires. it's not much, but i wanted to welcome you with these, as we still didn't have the time to properly meet eachother." she continues.
as yuuki offered eating sharing the biscuits, marin beamed.
"if that makes you the most comfortable, i would love to! and ehh?? you never had jam?" marin looked a bit surprised.
"it is, raspberry jam to be exact! it's very sweet. if you end up liking it, we often have it at home in the cabinets."
Stunned by how talkative Marin was about pastries, Yuuki silently yet attentively listened to every word. Though his face contorted slightly in confusion at the words 'chiffon cake', Yuuki seemed to want to commit her every word to memory for some reason.
"ehh?! i'm so glad about that!" marin seemed much relieved at his statement.
"i got a little worried since i was scared this whole thing could be a lot for someone, but i'm more than happy to know it is all going smoothly!~ ne, have you gorwn any closer to anyone for now? i saw you and azusa-kun do get along pretty well!"
as yuki takes a biscuit marin decides to also take one, as he mentioned wanting to share them. a proud smile appeared on her lips, glad she made the right choice to bring him a sweet treat instead of something else.
"ah, vongole bianco!! i have to say, it is really tasty! have you tried any other kinds of pasta yet?" she asked in curiosity.
"if that's not the case, i can cook some for you! there are many kinds such as arrabbiata, carbonara, pesto.." she starts listing the names. "oh! perhaps some tomato sauce pasta, since we have lots at home~"
as yuuki speaks looking much more comfortable marin feels proud, but it didn't take a lot for marin's smile to drop at the mention of the name "kanato."
"........."
uneasiness got the best of the purplette at the mention of the vampire she had shared so much with, that later turned into a mess for her. her face gone almost blank at this, her body language suddently looking much less upbeat as before. there's no doubt it's him, he would always want part of the sweets she ate when they were still that close. she still kept a smile on her lips, not wanting to worry yuuki. after a moment of silence, she spoke up again, remembering she needs to answer.
"uhm...! of course!"
"W-Well, I haven't really spoken to the other brothers much yet… I've only really talked to Azusa-san. He's the reason why I ended up staying there in the first place, though Ruki-san did help with a lot of the arrangements for me moving in."
He smiled softly as he listened to Marin go off on another tangent, he couldn't help but to find the girl's excitement when it came to discussing food to be endearing. He shook his head at the question, soon finding himself feeling lost at all the nonsensical-sounding pasta names suddenly being thrown at him.
"T-Thank you, that's really kind of you. B-But, I'd also like to learn how to make it as well. I've tried helping Ruki-san with making dinner once or twice, but I only really know how to prepare konbini food…"
"--no, really! you can keep them. i got these for you, after all..." she insisted, handing him the box once again.
trying to change the subject noticing how the air in the room got a little too dense, she going on with their current food conversation. she struggled to seem composed, but she really has no intention whatsoever to worry someone so nice as yuuki. he kind of reminded her or how she was when she first arrived at the sakamaki manor, except that he is a more timid than she was. she was fidgeting a little with the bandage on her wrist, attempting to calm her nerves.
"i will gladly help you cooking, just say the word when you need! i am glad if i can be of help. there's a lot to do around the house, and ruki will be pleased to have someone else to help out here." marin smiles at him.
"A-Ah…o-okay, then…"
He hesitantly took the box of biscuits from Marin, though his gaze remained fixed on the ground. Yuuki lifted his head when she began speaking again, though he still couldn't find it in him to look her in the eyes.
"U-Uhm, okay… T-Thank you again, and, uhm…"
Unable to fidget with his hands due to him now holding the box, he instead curled into himself ever so slightly, similar to how a scared animal would try to make itself look smaller. Shifting his eyes back downwards, which he felt tearing up a bit, he mumbled in a shaky voice.
"--i'm really not mad, seriously yuuki-kun! i'm sorry i had made you think that.."
marin reassured yuuki. was her nervousness this clear..? she couldn't help but worry at the thought, looking at him with a convinced, comforting expression.
"you've been nothing but nice to me, and you seem like an extremely kind person. i promise i'm really not upset with you, just..."
she has hesitated a little, but decides to speak out.
"...please..be careful with kanato-kun, will you..?"
as she talks she seems genuine in her words, as she had experience somehow. her voice sounds almost worried, as she keeps on fidgeting a little.
Yuuki couldn't help but to smile softly at her reassuring words, though it soon faded.
"..i used to be in the sakamaki household as a sacrifical bride back then and i was pretty close to kanato-kun. but it didn't end..all that well.."
marin takes an effort to talk about the situation properly, not being much used to say this kind of stuff.
"he was nice to me in his own way, and it made me very happy, so we grew closer quickly. we ate pastries together and keep eachother company. then things...went a little...overboard, and we're not really....friends anymore.."
she feels terrible having to talk about this, not for herself as much as for yuuki. if his first thought when receiving biscuits was to bring kanato some, that must be they are quite close. thinking about the past was bittersweet to her. she can't deny she misses going out at cafe's with the vampire or just the happy moments they went through. the many bandaged wounds over her body were just a reminder of both the good and the bad things, as well as the reminder of the much time she had to spend in the "doll room."
"...i know lying is bad, but you wouldn't want to tell him you met me. i really, wholeheartedly don't want you to get in trouble."
"…'Sacrificial...bride'…?"
Yuuki was completely taken aback by that phrase, it was something he'd never heard of before. Having not been to the Sakamaki manor before himself, he knew little about the Sakamakis outside of Kanato.
Despite his unease about the aforementioned 'sacrificial bride', he continued to carefully listen to Marin's words, feeling the bittersweetness of it himself. With the sudden drastic change in his lifestyle, it seemed like vampires had suddenly become the centre of his world - Kanato and Azusa were all that he thought about. Though, that was to be expected as he had only met them a few days ago and learned that vampires existed. Not to mention he didn't have much else.
as yuuki seemed confused at the term of sacrifical brides, it didn't take much for marin to feel a wave of relief. so he isn't a sacrifice? thank god...should she even explain the term to yuuki?
"it's hard to explain what a sacrifical bride is..even for me who has been one in the first place. but if you are not a sacrifice yourself yuuki-kun, i am very glad." marin smiles, clearly relieved about the news.
"you see, i...doubt there'd be a second chance for me and kanato. i'd be worried of angering him any further. but thank you for your suggestion, yuuki-kun. i can't lie i'd love for things back the way they were, but i think the healthiest thing for both me and kanato-kun is be more..distant, to avoid any complications or anyone getting hurt, wether me or him." she continues to explain, smiling a little at the positive answer she got from the other human.
"i have failed as a doll.." she adds.
"if you don't mind me asking, though..what is your relationship with kanato-kun, yuuki-kun?"
Marin's words worried Yuuki. She was a 'sacrificial bride'…? Whatever that was, it didn't sound good. But if Marin is still here now and no longer lives with the Sakamakis, maybe she's okay now…? Even still, he wanted confirmation before leaving his anxieties to rest.
"I…I don't know what a…'sacrificial bride' is…b-but…a-are you okay now…?"
He couldn't help but to grow a bit sad at the girl's words. She seemed like she was at least somewhat confident in her decision, so maybe it was the best thing she could've done. Yuuki decided to drop the topic now that he understood the situation and didn't want to continue dragging out any negative emotions or bad memories out of Marin. However, he tilted his head in confusion at her one-off statement about being a doll.
"A doll…? But…aren't you…a human? You're very, uhm, expressive, if you really are a doll. It's very impressive."
Oblivious as ever, he took Marin's words at face value. If vampires existed, maybe dolls that appeared and acted alive like humans did too.
"yeah, i'm really good now!" marin replied confidently. "thank you for asking, yuuki-kun!~."
as she listens to his words, she is happy to reply
"of course, i'd be more than glad to be friends! you seem like a genuinely good guy, and i am glad you are enjoying your time in the manor! and thank you for the compliment, yuuki-kun!" upbeat as before, the tension in the room seemed to have lowered with both of the humans being happy once again.
"and huh, i see..." as yuuki speaks, marin is a little worried. was yuuki not provided with any of that growing up? that explains why he had never ate such a common food as jam before..her and her father did struggle a little in the past, but she never was in such a situation where she had none of the things yuuki listed. as he lists everything with such excitement, marin can't help but smile too just for how contagious his happines was.
"ne, i'm glad to know you have all this now! about your malnutrition, if you happen to feel weak during the day there are some vitamins that are like candies, that could help you feel more energized during the day. and if you ever feel like trying new foods, i know lots of yummy recepies and will be more than happy to make you some!~ is there any foods you'd like to try out?"
Yuuki grinned at Marin's words, happy to know that Marin was doing better now and was willing to be his friend.
At the mention of feeling weak during the day and vitamins, Yuuki grew a bit curious. Having grown more than used to being malnourished, this piqued his interest.
"'Energized…?' Oh, usually whenever I'm tired, I just take a nap… But I'm used to being tired, so it doesn't really affect me anymore, heheh."
He paused for a moment to think about what kind of food he'd like to make. Suddenly, he seemed to have an idea.
"i really reccomend you to try them! the best part is that when they do good for you, they also taste really sweet and it's like eating healthy candies!~ i think they would help you feel less tired during the day!"
as she waited for yuuki to answer, she grins at his request.
"bento?!?! YAY! i can definetly help, then!~" she clapped her hands in victory.
"i'm sure azusa-kun would appreciate it a lot (especially if we add something spicy in there!~) and so would ruki-kun, kou-kun and yuma-kun! plus~" the purplette proudly puts her hands on her hips.
"as a proud artist, i promise i'll help you make azusa-kun cutest, tastiest bento on the face of earth!~ so much he'll want seconds!"

He shook his head at the question, soon finding himself feeling lost at all the nonsensical-sounding pasta names suddenly being thrown at him.

i realized i never posted this.
*as for shu's part, when marin wants to break the ice or is in a silent situation, she likes to bright up the mood with a pun (she knows tons, thanks to her dad and uncle!)
