Something i never really thought about is that pre Thor 1 literally anyone could lift Mjolnir. Sure, it was always Thor's weapon (ignoring Hela) but there is nothing speaking against the idea of Loki sneaking into Thor's room at night and stealing the hammer just to annoy him. Or maybe when Thor was still too young to lift it by himself, he and Loki would both grip the handle and then cheer once they managed to lift it just an inch off the ground together.
