A little off topic, but who would you want to see Nanami with?

I didn’t add Gojo and Geto separately because I couldn’t bear to break up SatoSugu even hypothetically…
And by the Clumsy Bakery Apprentice OC, I mean HIS apprentice. The dynamic would be like: very traditional, stick-to-the-recipe Nanami vs. a chaotic and creative, let's-see-if-this-works girl. And clumsy because someone has to slip on the floor and land in his arms, hehe, and spill a bag of flour in the process, so Nanami would end up cleaning it until morning while she fell asleep (but she was trying to help, she just got tired!!!). And Nanami would be both furious and smiling a little, ykwim? Maybe he would even cover her with that empty bag, lmao
And I could write that as Nanami/Reader in like five years when I'm finally done with Megumi
It's been a month already?! Istg, time works differently for me... Anyway, I just wanted to give you a quick update!
So, I'm writing a lot and I have a lot already written, but I'm also rewriting a lot, so I have no idea how long it'll take to finish (that's why I didn't update my progress bar, it's hard to assess). You know, this chapter is a little... delicate? I don't want it to be either too serious or too light, and I'm probably overthinking it far too much. Which brings me to the topic I was thinking about lately:
Is there anyone who would want to beta read it for me?
(once it's done or almost done)
I don't mean fixing grammar etc. (although that would be great too, but I know it's a lot of work), I would just appreciate some honest feedback before I publish the chapter for everyone. Please let me know if anyone's interested! (like, comment, or maybe dm me, but I'm a little scared of dms)
I haven't thought about the specifics yet since I didn't know if there would be any volunteers, but I'll probably put the chapter on Google Docs or something (is there a better place for that? I'm new to beta-reading) and add some questions to answer there? The only requirements are to know the rest of my fic and a willingness to share an honest opinion. Basically I just want a vibe check on whether that chapter fits, so I can stop second guessing myself
Oh, and don't worry, this isn't a binding commitment or anything, I won't make you sign it with your blood, I just wanted to see if there's any interest at all for now!
It seems like either you all read only my fic or you want to keep your favorites to yourselves 😏 (just kidding, I know there are other options too)
Anyway, I thought that since there are no recommendations, I can recommend some other stuff to you that inspired me somehow or just feels similar in some way. Here we go! (it came out much longer than I thought it would be, so the rest is under the cut)
FANFICS
I Leave You by m1ckeyb3rry
I have one fanfic recommendation, it's about Inumaki, but HEAR ME OUT. It's a crack fic and it's not romance-centered, so I think you can read it just as a story, ykwim. It's about a little miscommunication (Toge tried to confess and said "I leave you" instead of "I love you") that grows bigger and bigger and funnier and funnier. Like, look at this:
Also, there is a tiny cameo of traumatised Megumi
MANGA/ANIME
Kaguya-Sama: Love is War
Well, if you liked my chess chapter, I was thinking about Kaguya and Shirogane while I was writing that one. It's a story about two tsunderes who don't want to confess and try to make the other one do that. And they are doing that by playing many kinds of mind games (with various results). Unfortunately, the anime got ditched halfway (technically they animated the ending, but in a movie that condensed 14 volumes of manga like a recap), so I really recommend reading the manga (it's also easier to follow, as the anime version is really fast at times). And yes, it's the same author, but that one is not like Oshi no Ko and doesn't have any weird incest plot, it's just a silly high school romantic comedy slow burn
Spy x Family
I already know that I have a fellow fan here, so I thought that more of you may like it too (especially fake marriage fans)! The premise is very different from my story, but I really like how Endo balances silly stuff with serious stuff, so it inspired me more in terms of hidden identities and the overall vibe (which I probably didn't pull off lmao). For those who don't know it: it's a story about a spy who has to form a fake family to get closer to a dangerous guy and prevent a war from happening. Little did he know that for his fake family, he chose an assassin wife and a telepath daughter. There are both anime and manga and I recommend both (a lot has happened since the last animated events!). Oh, and it's also a slow burn—extra slow, but extra fun!
DRAMAS/SERIES
XO, Kitty
I watched To All the Boys and didn't like either the movie or Kitty, but I can't lie, I love her here. This show is such a guilty pleasure to me! Yes, it's cringe sometimes, but I binge-watched it like crazy, it's so entertaining (maybe skipping the last season, that one was worse, but still fun). I don't want to spoil too much, so I'll just say it's about an American girl going to a Korean school (and she doesn't even know Korean). And there is a lot of romance drama if you're looking for that part
Meteor Garden
It's based on a kinda old Japanese manga, Hana Yori Dango, there are a lot of different adaptations, I haven't seen them all (and didn't read the manga either), but that one is definitely my favorite! It's a Chinese drama, so it's a little slow and long, but it's so much fun when you get into it! Even the product placements were hilarious. It's really exaggerated and dramatic, so it's probably not for everyone, but I love the crack energy. Also, I really like the changes they made, since in the original version it was more like yakuza and serious bullying, and here there are four smart boys knowing many languages, getting the best scholarships, and playing bridge instead of punching people. Oh, and a little trivia for Spy x Family fans: I remember Endo saying the main hero and Damian are similar, and well, you can already see in the trailer why lmao
Good Morning Call
I think this one has the male protagonist most similar to Megumi, but the female lead is a bit of a naive baka. I love her, she's cute, but definitely not smart lmao. The story starts when both of them get scammed into living in the same apartment, and since they both don't have money to move out, they decide to become roommates. Secret roommates! Where will that get them? Well, you have to see for yourself. Also, there is a lot of banter and Nao (FL) has a wild imagination and stupid ideas
CARTOONS
Less romance in these ones, but if you like my protagonist, I think she's really similar to Luz and Star (in some ways, I'm trying to write mine more ENTPish). And those are just funny shows
The Owl House
So, Luz is a human who accidentally gets into the Demon Realm and wants to become a witch (which is not possible for a human, so she has to be creative). It's about weirdos sticking together and found family! And a yuri enemies-to-lovers this time. And if you like Megumi, I think you may like Hunter—look at him, he even dug his own grave!
Oh, and they have animals as palismen, it's cute!
Star vs. the Forces of Evil
In this one, we have a completely opposite situation: a princess from another dimension gets sent to Earth as a punishment for sucking at doing magic. And she gets The Safe Kid as a guide. Also kinda roommates. And Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy sings one song
Unfortunately, both of these were kinda ditched by Disney, and they had to rush the endings, but they were still fun to watch
BOOKS
Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan
This is the least similar, but I've been told even before I started writing (and before I read them) that my style of expression is similar to Riordan. I think I have a long way to go before I reach Uncle Rick's level, but I guess I have a kinda similar vibe? Not much romance in these ones, but if you like the protagonist being sarcastic and making jokes in life-threatening situations, then you can give it a try. Also, if you're learning English and are not that fluent yet – these are really easy to read. And yes, there are movies and a TV show, but I really recommend reading the books
Yeesh, it came out so long, maybe at least it'll get me back to writing hehe
Oh, and I wish I could tell you where you can watch/read all of these, but since it depends on the country I can only suggest searching free media heck yeah and getting a Brave browser (unless you already have a good ad blocker or like being interrupted by naked ladies)
Oh, also, I almost forgot, there was a question about Megumi fanfic recommendations, I don't know if it was meant for me or someone else to answer, but I thought I'd share it! If you have any, please feel free to drop them in the comments or send me an ask if you're shy!
Unfortunately, I'm a TERRIBLE fanfic reader. I read something from time to time, but I almost immediately forget it, they all blend together in my head… And it's not the authors' fault, it's mine, I just don't pay that much attention while reading fanfics and I get easily bored 🥲 Besides, it’s kinda hard for me to find something I’ll enjoy, I have a very specific taste
Also, when it comes to JJK, I actually read more Inumaki-centered fics because the authors have to be creative with handling his speech problem, and I find it entertaining to see how they do that. You know, I read fanfics more for fun than for the romance itself, I usually choose crack fics, and they are rarely about Megumi. And also, I just prefer books/manga… (and those I read are mostly quite different from what I write and definitely not about Megumi, lmao)
Anyway, I don't mind if you share what you like here! Let's gooooo *nobody follows*
The next diary entry, 'cause I've been silent once again:
So, the thing is, I've been really overwhelmed lately (and it's not gay wizards' fault, it's personal stuff, I wish it was gay wizards instead). I'm trying to write every day, but I always end up staring at the plan for a few minutes and then switching to doing something else. It's not that I don't want to write, I really want to write, I just don't have enough brainpower for that. Maybe I should eat more nuts or something?
But jokes aside, I've been feeling a little bad and I feel bad about taking so long to write too. Like, I know fanfics are for fun and I shouldn't force myself or something, but well, I guess I have a Megumi-like personality (actually, I'm just one letter away from him in MBTI). I also feel a little like I'm a cheater, 'cause I've been drawing a lot of fanart instead (you technically didn't know about it since it's on my main account, but my conscience knew), but it doesn't require much thinking, so I can manage that. And I know I shouldn't feel bad about it either, but I still do. I just feel bad about everything I guess
Anyway, I'm trying to write and I'm still excited about that story, I just need to ask you for a little patience. I will write it eventually, I just don't know when (I hope it'll be soon). The good news is that I'm brainstorming future chapters in the meantime (that part of my brain is working fine, I just have a problem with words right now). Also, feel free to harass me and remind me about writing (nicely or not nicely, both work for me), I'm prone to shutdowns, so it actually helps to get back on track
A little diary entry about my posting schedule, 'cause I feel bad keeping you waiting and uninformed:
Sooo, when I finished writing the last chapter, I wanted to take a tiny break and started reading Witch Hat Atelier… and I knew that I would like it, but I didn’t expect to like it THAT much, I devoured all 16 volumes like I hadn’t eaten in years and I already can’t wait to read it again…
Anyway, because of that I haven’t written anything yet, but don’t worry, I’m still excited about my own story, we haven’t even gotten to the best parts yet! My plan for the next few days is to first finish a little WHA comic I’m drawing right now (sorry, I’m obsessed) and then get back to writing
So, TLDR: I think rationally speaking the next chapter will be no sooner than the end of next week, I don’t know yet how much free time I will have. It’s Eurovision week and I haven’t decided if I’m boycotting it or not, but I’ll probably watch it anyway…
And as a little sneak peek, I think I can now say that there will be a trip to the aquarium in the next chapter! Be prepared for fish trivia that I don’t even know myself yet (I still haven’t done my homework)
can you add more of protective kinda worried megumi
👀
It’s one of my favourite kinds, so there will definitely be more of him! Honestly, I sometimes struggle not to make that his only trait lmao, gotta keep our boy diverse
Will I survive a trip to a stranger's house? Will Megumi survive my trip to a stranger's house? Who will eat the crumbs? Let's find out! Read Chapter 14 on AO3!
alright, I think it's FINALLY done, but I need to read it at least one more time with fresh eyes, so I'll post it sometime tomorrow (probably at the time I'm posting this, but no promises)
I was wondering today if I should include a hedgehog in the story (I stick to my goal to purposefully force animal rescue info onto people, whether someone is reading that or not) and I was reminiscing about one I was fostering during winter and... I loved her, but I kinda forgot she was constantly shitting into the food bowl, jumping at me to stab me with her spikes, trying to eat whatever she found (including my furniture) and also invented a way to open the cage she was in (which she also kept climbing). This isn't even a standard hedgehog's behaviour, normally they are very chill, but I got a very special one (and she was a very energetic baby on top of that). Anyway, I'm torn now between adding a well-behaved hedgehog and my batshit hedgehog, I don't know if I want to give hedgehogs that much bad press, lmao. It was kinda funny, though...
And the good news is I'm almost done with the next chapter!
Some more moments of them flirting like the one time when they played chess would be nice hehe, it was kinda highkey hot af 😭
I feel like I accidentally set the bar a little too high, because I have no idea how I managed to write it that way lmaoo
And I even got flustered myself while writing and was like wtf they’re just playing chess with an unusual strategy, why am I flustered???
But since I’ve done it once, I hope I can do it again! I just need to find a good excuse for them to behave like that
Oh, and also I’m kinda reusing this motif of lying/accidentally telling the truth later, but that one probably won’t be hot hahaha (you’ll just have to wait 10 chapters to find out)
