True story
A Snowman’s Kiss
Been there.
@$#! Just got real.
A seized pig dies from being starved at an animal shelter in Alabama despite the efforts of one persistent rescue organization.
A story as told by a pig. Please don’t give your pig to a shelter, ask for help if you need to rehome your mini pig.
The love story that almost didn’t happen. This is my experience with a super aggressive pig. These were the most difficult days of my life. THREE long MONTHS! All of this happened shortly after we launched the website, and I am thankful for the experience because my own experiences have inspired and helped others (so I’m told).
Let Huckleberry serve as a lesson to ANYONE with an aggressive pig. This pig tried to eat me. Every. Single. Day. If his behavior could improve, I knew there wasn’t a pig out there who couldn’t overcome behavioral challenges. (And that’s putting it very mildly)
Reach out and ask for help before you get so frustrated that you cannot justify keeping your pig one day longer. Ask someone with experience to assist you on your journey. I am so grateful that so many experienced pig people helped me, and forever indebted to them. This is one of my passions, aggressive pigs. I know what it’s like. I know it’s scary. I know how difficult it is to love a pig who hates you and hurts you, like literally hurts you physically. But you can forgive and move past all of that. Trust me. One day, you’ll be the person helping someone else. Truly aggressive pigs are special. They have something in their past that’s haunting them. It’s up to you to figure that out and correct it. In Huckleberries case, he was intact, and I can imagine not treated well if he acted like he did at my house with his first family. He was confused. His hormones were out of control and he was scared and sad and angry.
After 3 months of searching for a veterinarian who was willing to neuter a fully grown super aggressive pig, we finally found one. He also trimmed his tusks, which he had used to stab me in the leg with. However, it didn’t come without a HUGE cost. (Like I could’ve purchased a small used car for the price of all this) But, it was done. Once neutered, and giving him the appropriate amount of time to allow his hormones to die down to a non-crazy pig level, training him was rather easy. But that sorting panel was literally a lifesaver and I suggest anyone with a pig, regardless of their disposition, should have a sorting panel on hand/nearby. Huckleberries story is told on our aggressive pig page on the website. Little that I know that he would forever change my life.
What do you do when you have a pig that is displaying aggressive behavior?
Hundreds of malnourished pot-bellied pigs in Kentucky face euthanization if homes can't be found in the coming weeks, the Pigs Advocates Lea
These pigs need as much exposure as possible so the great people working to find them loving homes can connect with people who are looking for a great mini pig. Please share!
