my attraction is neither wrong or right. it simply is, it simply exists. its wrong to act on it, but the attraction itself is not wrong. there is a difference.

while such things are meant well, it reinforces that something we cannot change is something to be ashamed of, something we should hate ourselves for. if you think the attraction is wrong, to a certain extent, you must believe we need to feel shame for it.

if you truly believe the attraction is wrong, at least do not say it when you try supporting us. if you cannot think of anything else to say, just a simple “sending positive vibes” or something about antis would do.

I’m Not a MAP, but I’ve always thought this when I’ve seen people write that. I Think I understand what they’re trying to say, but it’s just bad wording. In this context to say something is ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ is to imply it is morally right or wrong, and attraction of any kind is neither.  

It would make more sense to say paedophilia is unhealthy. Adults aren’t naturally supposed to be attracted to children, but they’re not at wrong for it either.

I think the problem here is another shift in language and the connotation of the word “natural”. “natural” has come to be associated with “normal” “that is presented often in nature”, and from here it’s easy to make the jump “therefore this very uncommon thing is unnatural, and unhealthy [this one in particular never makes sense to me; unhealthy means that it would affect their health…what does their attraction have to do with their health?], and shouldn’t exist” why would something that was generated and is definitely not under control of the generated have inherent right and wrong connotations? what did that person do to be born already judged?  what you’re born with, no matter the deviation from the standard, is still natural. it’s happening naturally, it’s happening in nature, it is not manifactured (and even there, I’d argue that artificial things are still made with natural elements; they would not present themselves like that without human intervention, but “nothing gets created and nothing gets destroyed” we’re still playing with the same basic natural dough). take it literally, strip it from moral definitions because nature doesn’t have morals, and think about it: unnatural things could never exist in nature by definition. if something exists in reality, it means that it was allowed, it was a possibility. the second tilt is applying the moral negative connotation to “unnatural” (which really should be “unusual”), and this shows a lot in the difficulties that disabled people face in society. pedophiles get a nice bucket of stigma and dehumanization in addition to this.   deviations from the standard are still part of nature.  what makes me so incredibly mad, is that the isolation forced on pedophiles makes scientific research so incredibly much more difficult on them! we still don’t know shit about how pedophilia works because it’s so damn hard to find volunteers. who would risk falling in a trap made to dig you out from the faceless mass of people? so research is done on already convicted people, who often times are situational offenders, not pedophiles. in what century do we think we’re living to think that pushing away pedophiles, “exiling” them from our society will solve the matter? they’re still there, you’ve just pushed them either under the carpet or forced them to join another society where they will hide again. and this is so detrimental because how are we supposed to understand what’s going on and why, if we can’t even find them.  I’ll never be thankful enough to MAP support groups because they’re very slowly fighting the stigma from the inside, and this might just make it possible in the future to collaborate with NOMAPs to understand the biology behind their deviation (and mind that I’m not putting any moral connotation in the word “deviation”).

You are 14 so you still have a lot of brain plasticity, I think at your age it is totally possible to get rid of your attraction to young kids with proper therapy, especially since it's trauma based. Even if you are anti contact I would imagine it would be better not to have such attractions in the first place if at all possible, right?

I’m not going to lie- I would very much like to be without it. But I need to be prepared in the event that it can’t be gotten rid of, which is what most information about minor attraction suggests. But I don’t have access to a safe therapist- someone who wouldn’t out me to police or my family, the latter of which would literally kill me. I’m in a very... difficult position right now. Chances are, I will still have this attraction when I am older, and I know it won’t be possible to get rid of it then.

“Get help” entails learning to accept my attraction, which I am doing to the best of my abilities because I don’t have access to a safe therapist. But thank you for looking out for me.

Edit: Not to mention, attraction is amoral. I am not acting on it, so why is it so wrong? If it’s because it’s “disgusting” then I find rats to be disgusting so that must mean rats shouldn’t exist. Right?
