Ah, a minstrel. That explained it (at least to her): what were minstrels but singing scribes? And scribes loved to get their facts down (or so she heard– she wasn’t high enough rank to warrant being pestered by them).

“Well then Tilo, my name is Hirra,” she said as she leaned forward, tail curling around her folded legs. “I’ll have to disappoint you: I don’t play any instruments. Are you finding yourself a few performers short of a troupe?”

—Exactly that actually, he could only stay a solo-act for so long. The minstrel mouse leaned upwards, Hirra being a whole 7 feet tall made him feel the need to get closer for her to hear him. 

❝ Nice to meet you Hirra, yes, I need to collect a troupe together as I’m set to perform at a the Red Hand. ❞ He was there earlier today, seemed to be the smallest tavern around but he had to start somewhere right? Tilo wasn’t well known as a minstrel around Lion’s Arch yet unlike back at Muridea. 

❝ I can’t be the only one who has dedicated themselves to their bard-craft right? Please miss Hirra, can you point me in the direction of your country’s performative scribes? ❞

      Sabre continued to peer down at the mouse, his mischievous grin giving way to a look of curiosity as the lute was retrieved. So, a ghost story in the form of a song, more or less? Seemed fitting enough.

      “Well, I can say this is already an interesting change to the usual campfire story,” Sabre mused before taking a seat as requested. Humor the minstrel he shall, but would Tilo really be able to frighten a knight who’s battled dragons and dinosaurs? Though he would keep it to himself so as not to be rude, he couldn’t help the thought of finding such an attempt amusing…

Tilo started to strum his delicate little paws accross the strings of his lute. Keeping eye contact with Sabre through the little eyeholes of his pumpkin mask. —The mouse's voice was melancholy and heavy with guilt.

🎵 ❝ For seven days the Emerald Fire. ❞  🎵

❝ Laid siege to royal Pesa's spires. ❞

❝ In the distance black smoke billowed. ❞

❝ As wheat fields burned like funeral pyres. ❞

❝ The Mice had sworn to hold the pass. ❞

❝ Vowed, 'til their allies could amass. ❞

❝ They would not waver from the fight. ❞

❝ But courage failed them, at the last.  ❞

❝ And so before the horde was laid.  ❞

❝ A goblet, carved of finest jade. ❞

❝ A tribute to the green flame's might. ❞

❝ In hope its ire could be assuaged. ❞

❝ But their treachery was all for nought. ❞

❝ There was no bargain to be bought. ❞

❝ The goblet was a poisoned cup. ❞

🎵 ❝ And from it sorrows flowed.  ❞  🎵

This was the perfect Halloween lay. —In Tilo’s humble opinion anyways. 🎃

Tilo looked up at the fox.

To be honest, —Tilo didn’t think of himself as very scary for obvious reasons.  

❝ ⸻Maybe with a lay that tells a tale. ❞ Tilo pulled out his lute from behind his back. He’d give Sabre his best campfire spook! 

❝ If you’ll sit down and humor me. I can give it a minstrel’s best go. ❞ He’d play a song for Sabre that would keep the vulpine up at night. He might even get Sabre to spare a hard-working minstrel some patronage (AKA: he could make money off the fox boy). if his lay did well enough to sway the fox’s emotions.

Hey now... Tilo wasn't a stick in the mud, did people (namely Fatale) really think he was boring?

You’re out of prison anyways, you & Gusto are free mice, why go back to the Keep? Just to steal stuff? ❞

Tilo would be willing to pay the large canine for it. It would seem that he’d best do that— as he could tell Wile E. might be difficult to bargain with.

❝ I can offer 10 Florins in exchange for your cheese. ❞

Florins were golden Muridean coins/currency. As far as Tilo knew they had value just about anywhere with a funtioning economy. The little minstrel’s stomach was rumbling, as the desert hadn’t been kind to him. He had been traveling alone until he came across the brown coyote, and the reason he was here was the usual. —An independent search for the person who meant the most to him.

❝ How does that sound to you? ❞

What a rare day it had been for him so far! Usually when trucks drove by they ended up running him over. Not today though! Instead a whole crateful of various cheeses had fallen out of the back and right in front of Wile E. What a score. It was a free meal, up until he got sick of eating it, for himself to enjoy! Of course he’s moved the crate to a much cooler and shaded spot to ensure it doesn’t immediately go bad.

And how he has a little mouse seeking some of his cheese. Long ears perk up at the mention of currency. Florins? What a strange word. He’s never heard of it before. Must be primitive mouse talk. A finger lightly taps against his chin as he sees the small coins the other was willing to bargain with. Hmmm.

“Are they real gold, my boy?” He might just take them up on that offer to melt those little coins down into something more useful.

❝ Yes, they're real gold. ❞ Tilo smiled, taking his florins out of his pocket and jingling a couple of them together in his paw as he held them. — Exactly enough to pay for his cheese. ❝ King Rodrik of ol’Muridea himself wouldn’t have anything less, I’m and older generation mouse myself, so I can even give you some ‘Cowards’. ❞ Tilo paused... realizing quickly the big canine isn’t gonna understand the context that those were rare, Collecter’s coins in his home kingdom.

❝ They’re rare, larger coins you see, hard to come by. ⸻us mouse folk call them ‘Cowards’.❞ Tilo rarely had moments where he had an opportunity to be this smug, especially when it came to money. ‘Cowards’ were actually as large as 5 modern Muridean florins so they were even better for Wile E.’s purposes. 

Tilo would hand Wile E. his money once the canine handed him his cheese. It was common sense you don’t hand someone your money until you’ve already gotten your product less they steal from you.

Tilo looked down at the two mouse sibling’s work, that.... was an ugly rat (costume) wasn’t it? So the two were gonna stand on each other’s shoulders and parade around as Red Paw guard?  ⸻Well... the two had always had plenty more guts than Tilo himself, so the minstrel supposed that tracks. 

❝ Can’t believe you two made that yourselves. ❞  The father in Tilo wanted to comment on how dangerous trying to pull such a fast one on the Red Paw would be for two young mice, but he didn’t want to be a buzzkill at the moment, it was Halloween season afterall. 

❝ You really think it’ll work? ❞ .... To be fair, this was the militia who believed Tilo to be Private Scow the tiny rat all the way up until the very end of his time at Castle Red Paw, and by then... they all had bigger fish to fry.
