🦇🌚I have never tried hatching as shadows in earnest before, fell a little in love with it. And apparently the subject matter, because some unnamed demon tempted your humble artist to draw all hair strands by hand. Blame Kay Nielsen, Konstantin Somov and Audrey Beardsley.

🐏🦇Your humble artist has a birthday today, and thusly the wip is accompanied by a story. Once upon a time sangbonbon al and I decided to make a fake cringe-romance covers for our otp. Full of enthusiasm and desire as I was, I got fatally stuck at the sketch stage, much to my sorrow. Several years later it's a true pleasure to return to the piece, not merely realising that everything has its time and place or that my skills have grown, but to reminiscent about the dear time that the long-lasting friendship is responsible for.

🃏A part of The Playing Cards challenge we are doing with @missyfleming

The initial idea was to assign the twins to the suit of hearts, but two queens of the same suit cannot exist...unlike one rather trickster of a card - the joker.

In addition, it differs in style and composition from other cards of the same deck. Here, the "character" of the joker not only perfectly reflected the mischievous nature of the horned coquettes former thieves, but also played into my hand. Orianna was painted about a year ago, and besides the usual difficulties, your humble artist suddenly realized in the middle of the process how exactly she wanted to make embroidery on the sleeves, the number of details increased, it became interesting to change a couple more things..😌

As for the design itself, unlike the previous card, smooth shapes rule here (even the signs of the suit appear more rounded). Regarding thr shape-language of the lambkins themselves, nothing has changed dramatically - except that the braids are stylized to reflect the suit of hearts.

The interpretation of the suit and the value of the card is mostly based on a tarot deck rather than on a playing deck, and those interested in the topic can learn a lot about the author's attitude towards the character via it. Diamonds also have influenced the visual stylization - the diamond shape is especially noticeable in the hairstyle, the pendant, the pattern on the headband and the roses a la Toussaint... ahem, Mackintosh. The pomegranate - a symbol of the underworld and life-after-death according to the Ancient Greeks - hints not only at vampirism, but also at a series of headcanons, which I won't bore you with presently. In conclusion, the freckles are worthy of a special mention, ( the decision for which the author admires the concept artists ) - a vampiress with freckles not only looks adorable, but also perfectly describes the sarcastic character of the mistress of “Mandragora”.

🐏⚡️🐴 the key art of Nistana and sir Cervantes for the enemies meme. it's weirdly fascinating how memes prompt me to go out of my comfort zone and draw things I'd have never been brave to breach otherwise :) special thanks to @battyccino for devising sir Cervantes and all the fun we were having during the process.

I must confess, I am always curious about such sketches - crooked "as-not-to-forgets". It, as nothing else does, gives a glimpse into the artist's intentions and the way of thinking.

To tell the truth, a totentanz can be in-line with the holiday, that originated from a close date with death in a cell. At the very least there is a conventional bouquet of roses ( another folk-cure against vampires ).
