Early Hollywood screener reaction on Gold Derby

Early Hollywood screener reaction on Gold Derby
“We don’t know how these other shows are going to fare,” explains Laws of why “Watchmen” and “Unbelievable” lead the odds for now before offering some unique insight about “Hollywood,” having seen a few episodes. “It’s impeccably made — it’s going to dominate the craft categories. I don’t know what the dollar amount was on the budget, but Netflix seems to have spent a lot to recreate the Hollywood of post-World War II and you’re going to see possibly Emmy nominations and perhaps even wins for people like Jim Parsons, who has a very juicy role, Patti LuPone, Holland Taylor; Darren Criss is also prominently featured.”

do you have andrew's pic with the flower crown?
Sorry, unfortunately I don’t!
Do you know what happened to the andrew-phillip-cunanan tumblr?
Sorry, I have no idea. It’s a shame they’re gone, they were a really great in-depth blog.
Hi, anon from last question, thanks for compiling the awards page!
No problem!😁
Hi thanks so much for all the Versace news. Do you know if there is a summary out there of all the awards and nominations this season of the show got? The IMDb page combines both S1 and S2 of ACS, and even though I loved S1 as well, it was extra gratifying that the Versace season did so well in the end after the early critics were mixed on it.
Yup! Right here: https://acsversace-news.tumblr.com/awards
Someone pointed out that Versace won more guild awards than OJ too! (5 vs 4 if I counted right)
Now that awards season is drawing to a close, is ACS currently nominated for any events still to take place, other than the GLAAD awards which are in late March? I do think it will be nominated in the Best International category at Bafta as well when those noms are announced.
Yeah, as far as I know it’s just those two left: GLAAD Awards on March 27, BAFTA noms announced March 28, then the BAFTA ceremony on May 12. I agree ACS is likely to get a nomination for International Programme too! Cuba Gooding Jr accepted the award for PvOJ, so crossing my fingers that at least one of the cast members for Versace can attend🤞
That's what I was going to say. What happened to the ACS DVD? It was up for pre-order on Amazon for the longest time and now it's gone?
Yeah, the Amazon page was deleted ☹️ The page for Pose is gone as well. Maybe FX decided DVDs aren’t that profitable for those shows and are focusing on streaming them instead? Whereas something like AHS has more of a fan-ish audience that buys physical media. Still, I would’ve loved an ACS DVD release with some extras and deleted scenes.
Hi, thanks for your response. Those are all good points. I have probably been reading too much into it. Glad the writing got some awards recognition after missing out at the Emmys and USC. Hopefully the scripts will all turn up online at some point, I had a look on Google recently but no success. Thanks for finding the episode 4 script last year and linking to it.
No problem! You pointed out some things I hadn’t noticed before like Maggie Cohn not originally being credited for ep 8 too. And while I’m always keeping an eye out for the other scripts, I’m not holding my breath for it. FX doesn’t seem to want to give us extra stuff like scripts or DVDs or deleted content 😑 One can dream though!
I was really glad to see ACS win at the WGA awards. But Maggie Cohn's speech made me wonder about something. Do you think there was some rift behind the scenes regarding the writing credits? I noticed she thanked very few people in her speech, and neither she or Tom Rob Smith (on Twitter) thanked each other after the win. I also remember Ryan pointedly saying a couple of times during the Emmy campaign and awards season that TRS wrote all the eps himself. (continued)
(continued from previous) Also in the photos of the media kit that were posted on your ACS blog, TRS was initially the only writer listed for ep 8 and she was only added later. Plus none of the producers seemed to attend the WGA West ceremony she was at, despite usually at least one attending to support the show’s nominees in other fields, like Alexis Martin Woodall supporting the music guild nominee recently. Do you think there was disagreement over her credit, or another kind of fall out?
Alexis Martin Woodall was actually nominated as a music supervisor with Amanda Krieg Thomas at the Music Supervisors Guild Awards for Pose. The only other guild award ceremony she attended so far was the Producers Guild Awards, which she was nominated for ACS. Other than that, I don’t think she or the other producers have attended any guild awards they weren’t nominated for. Ryan Murphy should show up at the Costume Designers Guild Awards tonight, but that’s because he’s receiving a collaboration award.
As for Ryan Murphy mentioning that TRS wrote all the episodes himself, I think it’s more the case of Ryan not knowing about the nitty gritty, day-to-day parts of the production (since he produces a ton of shows). Not to downplay Cohn’s contribution, but the whole script really was TRS’ brain child, while Cohn was brought in because they were crunched for time.
I did check the press kit and you’re right that she wasn’t originally credited for episode 8. I don’t know if there was a fallout per se, as Tom Rob Smith is complimentary about her and the rest of the script team, but now that you point it out it was likely she negotiated for a writer’s credit, rightly so if she did a lot of heavy lifting and met the guild requirements to get credited. I read it as more a professional issue that got solved rather than a personal problem that’s persisted for over a year. What do you think? Agree? Disagree?
