For a little while, I was in the top 500,000 titles on Amazon which was pretty cool! So proud of my little horror story that could.
eddie munson: certified atheist™️
the secret to being a cool adult is to wear things that your younger self wanted to wear but couldn’t and to do things that your younger self wanted to do but couldnt
Feel like pure shit I just want him back
Eddie wake up, I don't like this, Eddie wake up
Eddie Munson was a gifted kid who grew up in poverty and neglect without the nurturing environment he desperately needed.
He was neurodivergent and hyperactive.
He coped in high school by experimenting with drugs, skipping school, making himself to be the most expressive and obnoxious in any room, and kept himself preoccupied with hobbies, friends and a fictional world to avoid any thought of his actual future.
And man, if that isn’t some specific ass representation you never get but desperately need.
That’s the scoop.
I don’t know if I’m missing something here, but I felt like Nancy was a much more relatable character than Barb. I literally felt zero connection to Barb, and I’m trying my darnedest to figure out what the Internet loves about her.
I’ll start with the easy part - why I like Nancy so much.
Nancy feels like a real teenager. She’s trying to find herself. She wants to do well in school, she wants to have friends. She has doubts. She wants to reach out to those who are different and not accepted (like Jonathan) but at the same time, feels she is walking a tightrope as far as being accepted herself. You don’t have to be a total pariah to feel unsure of where you belong or whether or not you belong as a teenager. Nancy shows this without being a total caricature.
Nancy doesn’t always make wise choices. She grows and changes as a person, and accepts that others grow and change too.
I never feel this sense of depth from Barb. Her motivations, the entire time, feel more like “I don’t want you to become too cool for me!” or “I don’t want you to forget about me!” as opposed to “I want the best for you.” when it comes to Nancy. And I get that. I get that fear when you’re not accepted that you might lose one of the few people who does accept you.
And it’s not that good friends don’t give advice. It’s just that good friends don’t try to make you question how well you know yourself. They don’t shame you for decision you make when trying to find yourself as a young adult. You can have multiple dimensions to your life and still be successful. You can go out at night or spend time with a boy or heaven forbid, even have sex with him and still do well on your biology test. Incorporating those different dimensions into your life, even if you stumble occasionally, is how you grow. A friend isn’t someone who holds you back from that growth.
That’s a controlling, abusive friendship, and (spoiler alert) if Barb hadn’t died, I would have like to at least see Nancy realize that their friendship actually wasn’t healthy.
But seriously. Am I missing something about Barb? I wanted very much to like her, I heard such great things about her as a character, but I felt nothing for her. Can anyone reframe this for me?
Reblogging after many years because Barb does not deserve all this hype and guilt and I hate seeing Nancy’s character arc still being driven by the ghost of this toxic friendship.

Feeling a lot like Johnny in his cabin during Secret Window. Got a short story draft actually written in about 10 mins so that made me feel pretty productive!
Magnetic ball in magnetic putty
me trying to get comfortable in my covers at night
thats the kind of thing i would love to just have in a little jar on my shelf so that when people came over they would be really unnerved by the mysterious shifting blob i have in a flask and i would refuse to acknowledge its existence
Magnetic Putties! https://puttyworld.com/search?type=product&q=magnetic
Now you, too, can have a mysterious shifting blob in a flask and not acknowledge it.
Circus Tree: Six individual sycamore trees were shaped, bent, and braided to form this.
Actually pretty easy. Trees don’t reject tissue from other trees in the same family. You bend the tree to another tree when it is a sapling, scrape off the bark on both trees where they touch, add some damp sphagnum moss around them to keep everything slightly moist and bind them together. Then wait a few years- The trees will have grown together. You can use a similar technique to graft a lemon branch or a lime branch or even both- onto an orange tree and have one tree that has all three fruits. Frankentrees.
As a biologist I can clearly state that plants are fucking weird and you should probably be slightly afraid of them.
On that note! At the university (UBC) located in town, the Agriculture students were told by their teacher that a tree flipped upside down would die. So they took an excavator and flipped the tree upside down. And it’s still growing. But the branches are now the roots, and the roots are now these super gnarly looking branches. Be afraid.
But Vi, how can you mention that and NOT post a picture? D:

I am both amazed and horrified of nature as we all should be
I love how trees are like “fuck it, I’ll deal” at literally everything. Forest fire? Cool, my seeds’ll finally grow. Upside down? Branches, suck, roots, leave. What’s this new branch? Eh, welcome to the tree buddy.
I need to be more like tree
I continue to fear and respect out arboreal overlords.
what kind of professor did these students have that they needed to prove him wrong so badly that they literally dug up a tree, flipped it and put it back in the ground?
Sounds like y’all’ve never heard about the Tree of 40 Fruits. Well, it’s exactly as it sounds. Sam Van Aken, an artist based in New York, decided to try his hand at grafting (e.g. the process by which you attach the branches of a different tree to a host tree).
As artists are inclined to do he decided to push some limits and over the course of a few years he grafted over 40 different fruit onto the host “ including almond, apricot, cherry, nectarine, peach and plum varieties.”
It has a fruiting period lasting from July to October and this is what it looks like when blossoming.
Shit’s tight yo.
Also we have a group called the Guerrilla Grafters. A group who started in San Fransisco with the goal of grafting fruiting branches onto non-fruiting trees of the same type.
Most cities have fruit trees that simply don’t produce fruit because having all these would be a mess and inadvertently providing unregulated food to people comes with a lot of legal risks I suppose. These grafters seem to think otherwise and have taken it upon themselves to try and bring fruit trees back to urban areas.
HOLY SHIT

WHAT A DOWNGRADE
Quarantine Day 20 by Gabriel Picolo
Based on:
Me: *Removes my cat from my lap to do something else.*
My cat: Father is...evil? Father is unyielding? Father is incapable of love? I am running away. I am packing my little rucksack and going out to explore the world as a lone vagabond. I can no longer thrive in this household.
