There should be more “coming of age” movies set not in teenage years

coming of age stories that feature characters who are primarily 15-19 really fucked with my perception of adulthood and growing up. Yea there’s a lot of stuff that happens in that phase of your life that shape you as a person but rarely does an event change you to the point where you come out of it all Mature and Grown Up. Feeling like I need to be ready to face the world by the time I’m 20 has given me too much anxiety than it’s worth.

When I ask older people when they finally felt like a “real adult” the answer has constantly been when they were 26-30. Their personal “coming of age” story happens about a decade after they do on the movies.

You don’t need feel Grown Up right away. Enjoy the bubbling uncertainty of your 20s

israel has been bombing residential towers, refugee camps, media offices and now there are reports that it plans to bomb two UN run schools in palestine. reminder that many ppl who have been rendered homeless by these bombings have found shelter in these schools. palestine's hospitals are overflowing, their top doctors are being killed in these bombings, and the pandemic is still raging while israel is blocking humanitarian aid as well. these are war crimes. this is a genocide.

It’s fucking wild to me that the Israeli military condemns Hamas for “using human shields” by existing near hospitals, schools, and refugee camps and then seems to think the reasonable thing to do in response is to bomb the hospitals, schools, and refugee camps. And the international media offices. Nothing at all suspicious about destroying the equipment and offices of news agencies on the ground, especially under the guise of destroying terrorist headquarters, when both news agencies have been like “yeah, we investigated THAT VERY THING and found no evidence of that.”

Netanyahu has said that Israel will only stop its bombardment when Gaza is “quiet.” I think we’re all starting to understand the grim, grim fucking meaning of that now.
