Assalamualaikum, Hi Dreamers! So I've been setting up small goals every week for the past 3 weeks, mostly on my fitness goals, so for this week, my goal is to never hit the snooze button whenever I wake up. Here's why..
Do you ever feel tired every morning every time you wake up? It is like the heaviest task of the day, you wish you could just sleep, sleep and sleep all day long. But do you ever feel like there is something wrong with with waking up feeling groggy, tired, needing to kill someone that talks to you in the morning lol when you already slept for 6 to 8 hours? I DO! In the ideal world, you should be waking up like Snow White, singing with the birds and bunnies while they help you clean your house. Well good news people! Our body IS designed to wake up feeling great not tired and zombie like until mankind invented the SNOOZE BUTTON! I definitely think this is the smartest invention to make people love sleeping haha and hate waking up.
So here's a video explaining why you should never hit the snooze button:

Our body is the best alarm clock, can you imagine that, this body even came with it's own alarm clock! can put in your grateful list today!
Hours before you wake up, your body temperature rises, hormones cortisol and dopamine are released to give you energy to start the day.
Why the alarm clock doesn't help?
It interrupts your biological sleep cycle, your body hasn't done prepping itself yet, hormones hasn't been released, temperature not warm yet, chicken is still cold, need few more minutes in the oven.. haha or in the bed. This is called sleep inertia.
Why the snooze button doesn't help?
It starts your sleeping cycle from the beginning and getting you into deep sleep once again. Back to square one people.. And this where the second alarm will come off, interfering your deep sleep, making you more and more tired.
Ok it doesn't matter if it interfere with your biological clock whatsoever, but do you know these bad waking/sleeping habits can affect your entire day. Not only you will be late for work, when you start to procrastinate in the morning, it implies to you that it is ok to procrastinate again later in the day, such as your work, task, assignment, prayers etc.
So instead of hitting the alarm clock, plan your sleep well:
1. Sleep earlier, plan an 8 hour sleep. If you intend to wake up at 6am, make sure to make appointment with your bed at 10pm. You can calculate ambuyat, you do the math hehe.
2. Set your alarm only as buffer, just incase you're afraid you couldn't wake up. So set it later, maybe 30 minutes to 1 hour after your planned wake up time.
I was discussing with the girls last night, what happened if you suddenly wake up earlier like 2am-3am for instant. That's the time we follow the sunnah, when you wake up at night, it is best to perform the prayers, and sleep later in the night. Even our Prophet doesn't teach us to snooze..
What to do when you wake up?
drink water to start your system
cook up a healthy breakfast, prep up your meal of the day.
Can you imagine there is a lot of things you can accomplish in the morning. Later in the day, you can relax a bit. Live life beautifully.
So now you can wake up feeling like Snow White too, minus the singing animals.. lol
So Good Morning and Happy Pipping!
