something i’ve been wondering: was george meant to be kind of a creep?

we the audience know by the end that shannon is actually a bit older, but for all george knows, she’s 16. and he was initially interested in her when he was 17 and she was (presumably) 10. the whole situation is just all around uncomfortable and based on some other things george has said (”i’m ordering u to accept my engagement ring bc ur a servant to my family and u can’t say no”) he just comes off as very gross

however nobody within the story seems to mention their age gap or takes issue with it at all??? whenever eva is objecting to it, she never says shannon is too young, she just focuses on the fact that she’s a servant. nobody is like “damn dude you’re 23 in a very serious relationship with a 16 year old?” it’s just like. accepted.

the fact that nobody bats an eye at it makes me feel like it’s supposed to be Acceptable and ryukishi wasn’t trying to make george kind of creepy but uh. it’s really how he comes off
