Most common life mistakes:
hurtling with reckless abandon
My phone's battery has been draining even tho it's plugged in.......... But also at one point I restarted it and it went from 19% to 44% so idk what the fucks going on
Fun fact, did y'all know that nobody spoke about The Economy™ until the 1920s or so?
Until the Great Depression, nobody talked about "the economy." In a sense, it hadn't been invented yet.
When it's released in the depression, this wonky statistic becomes an overnight sensation. A report on national income submitted to Congress becomes a bestselling book.. And pretty soon, you can't turn on the radio without hearing those numbers and what they're measuring.
In the decades that follow, national income becomes gross national product and eventually GDP — and it sweeps the world. "The first thing you do in 1950s and '60s if you're a new nation is you open a national airline, you create a national army, and you start measuring GDP," Karabell says.
You need to calculate GDP because if you want help from the World Bank or the United Nations, they're going want to know: What does their help do for your country's economy?
It's somewhere around this time, Karabell says, that people start to make too much of GDP. Rather than a limited measure of the economy, it becomes this Cold War gauge of who's doing better, who's winning. And, so, perhaps inevitably, all that success leads to a backlash.
In one of the most famous moments of that backlash, Robert Kennedy enumerated the shortcomings of what was then known as Gross National Product.
"Gross National Product does not allow for the health of our children, the quality of their education, or the joy of their play," he said. "It does not include the beauty of our poetry or the strength of our marriages, the intelligence of our public debate, or the integrity of our public officials."
how many times does it have to happen before people connect the dots that police murder people who are inconvenient to them?
so many activists from popular sites, especially Ferguson in the recent past, are coming up dead. when they killed Sadie Roberts-Joseph, the founder of Baton Rouge African-American History Museum, there was so much outrage they pinned it on an “angry former tenant” who just happened to be a rough looking dark-skinned Black man. when they find people shot in their cars and burned to death, it’s a mystery that cannot be solved.
these are absolutely assassinations and it’s so enraging that people have somehow gone from seeing how the government aided the murder of MLK Jr., the assassinations of the likes of Huey P. Newton, and are now so trusting that that isn’t happening anymore.
absolute foolishness, willful ignorance, you don’t want to believe you live in a police state because then you have to unthink all your “uwu not all cops” bullshit and look at the system for what it is. an arm of white supremacy and capitalist protection.
cops are rabid guard dogs and nothing more.

The most infuriating part of my job at a dollar plus store is when ppl get mad we sell things up to $4. Like firstly I have nothing to do with that, secondly we're in Canada and our currency is worth nothing, thirdly only things that involve a lot of material or that are a lot higher quality/brand name are that price point.... Fourthly I would love to give you an economics 101 course on how inflation works cause u clearly don't know but I've got to help this next customer.

i dont know what abled person needs to hear this but that disabled person doesnt need your help
oh ok i am so sorry for trying to help someone who may need help as a result of their disability
how did the disabled rights movement turn into “stop helping disabled people”
oh, the disabled rights movement was always about asking abled people to stop assaulting us by a) forcibily pushing our wheelchairs, b) grabbing our bodies to “guide” us, c) otherwise ignoring our consent to grab our bodies or medical equipment. the disabled rights movement has always been about our right to exist, and about abled society no longer viewing disability as an innate state of helplessness.
weve always recommended you learn the difference between a disabled people minding their own business, and someone who is actually asking for help as well as consenting to it.
anyway. if you have to reply this shit to a fairly benign post, you were probably the abled person that needed to hear it. nice to meet you.
Disabled people: We want rights. Including the right to bodily autonomy.
Ableist people: wow, smh. Can’t believe you’re saying that when I violate your consent it isn’t helping. Feel so disrespected rn.
!!!IMPORTANT FOR BLACK US VOTERS!!!
I saw this on Facebook and went to check my registration status, sure it was fine because I voted recently, but I put in the info and it said I’m not registered
PLEASE, especially if you’re a Black voter, check your registration status at vote.org
Know your status
Does your last name sound anything like Lopez, Martinez, or Rodriguez? Mine does. When I saw this post I checked my voter registration status online with my state. Despite registering just three months ago, I was no longer registered to vote, and I did not receive my ballot. If you live in a mail-in voting state and you didn’t get your ballot, contact your county election official/county clerk for a replacement.
thank you to the Zero people who have donated for my wheelchair
I'm a disabled enby trans man with a (thankfully) stable living situation but no support when it comes to mobility devices (or really anything outside of dr's appts, of which I've had about 5 in the past two months)
I have no job and I'm schooling full time; the 40min-an hour of intense walking I have to do every day to commute to school leaves my muscles aching and my joints unstable.
my ko-fi is in my bio. Literally any donation will help, and you can commission writing from me (my 'resume' is my ao3, also in my bio)
please and thank you
This is the only video I will watch from now on I refuse to watch anything else
There are some very angry people in my notes and inbox this week. Apparently, I am “toxic” and “evil” because I reported the results of 50 years of weight-loss research. They are mad because the research definitively and conclusively demonstrates that long-term maintenance of weight loss is virtually impossible. They also think I am “delusional” because I criticize the medical establishment for keeping this fact a secret from the general public.
The truth is that the ineffectiveness and harmful nature of intentional weight-loss is well known within the scientific and medical communities. If pressed, most doctors will affirm that their clinical experience conforms to the scientific results: Basically everyone who loses weight will go on to regain that weight within 3-5 years. In 75% of cases, they will regain more weight than they lost.
This knowledge is why doctors became so desperate that they resorted to amputating parts of the digestive tract in the hopes that it might finally result in long-term weight-loss. Except oops, that doesn’t work either. Oh, and it causes death, addiction, malnutrition, and suicide. Whoopsie daisy.
Diet culture is fucking toxic. And people deserve to know the truth.
