Pakistan Floods
- Stormed Lands Tearing Hearts - A deadly and devastating floods hit Pakistan and many areas of kashmir in recent month. According to the government authorities this is the worst flooding ever in nearly two decades, The flooding has killed nearly 300 people in Pakistan and disrupted life for more than two million others, Dozens of bridges have been damaged or washed away. Authorities fear the death toll may rise in the region as more flooding and rain is forecast for the coming days, with thousands stranded and needing rescue. This is just the brief look of the statistics despite we cant look at the loss of economy. So I’m living near by the flooded town and during my visit I discover those problems. As we know huge population of Pakistan living in villages that’s why most of flood hits rural areas and rural population. Flood had ruined millions of accer’s crops and feilds causing huge losses to the farmers putting farmaers in a huge debt. let’s take a brief look at affected areas and suffered people.
Many people were stuck in flood and still waiting to be rescued Thousands of people displaced from their houses they need shelters for living many people living by road sides with their families, Flood Victims need food many of them are hungry from many days child’s from ages 6 months to 12 years increasingly facing food insecurity, many women’s are pregnant they need rapid healthcare response and food, despite government and non governmental organizations are working but there is more humanitarian relief work and quick emergency needed, rescue teams facing many problems, because of less rescue equipment and tools, rescue teams need more helicopters and boats because many people were not go with the rescue teams they assist to stay in their flooded houses rether then escape from deadly storm, if food and first aid cant delivered to them at time casualties may happened, once those flood victims do charity but when it comes to them to taking charity they feel there self respect at skate, i’ll advice the humanitarian workers keep in mind please treat them with respect, some relief workers treat them rudely, I met an flood effected farmer his two sons is died because of flood he’s waiting for food and shelter he told me that he dont want to leave his destroyed house he persist to stay when I ask him about food because he is hungry from many days he told me that some times army helicopter come and through them food but not always, there are many cases like that, Lack of healthcare is one of the major problem flood victims are suffering, in effected areas people using flood water for drinking and showering, The use of the contaminated water has resulted in an increase ratio in skin and water borne diseases in flood affected areas, many victims dying with these diseases, I think the worlds needs to pay attention on them and provide them food shelters and healthcare, although I cant deny that government and NGO’s working in there capacity but more relief work is merely needs to be done.
