In case someone is struggling with this:

Something I’ve noticed from abusers, is they commonly try to shove themselves back into your lives, and when you try and say you don’t want them back, they’ll call you toxic for not believing they could ‘grow and change’. They try to guilt you.

Now while people are fully capable of growth and change, if they have abused you in the past, you have absolutely no obligation to forgive them or bring them back into your life. What they did to you still stands and still affects you.

You are never obligated to forgive anyone who abused and hurt you, regardless if they’ve actually improved or not. They aren’t your responsibility to care for and forgive.

And if it helps to hear, if they’d actually grown and changed, they would respect your wishes and back away without trying to guilt you.

so we all agree that prince cardan is an elitist prick (I mean, he is) but let’s also collectively acknowledge the fact that he’s like,, a complete fucking trainwreck of a person:

shows up drunk on the day of his brother’s coronation

copes with having a crush by aggressively writing her name over and over on a crumpled piece of paper

makes out with her while she casually holds a knife to his throat

literally bends himself to her will to prove that he’s trustworthy

gets kidnapped by her ragtag band of thieves & assassins 

then proceeds to drink wine & play cards with them because at this point why not

just wants to drink wine and dissociate in peace tbh

has zero sense of self preservation in general

has huge character flaws that he has no intention of working on

also, extreme cynicism towards self

……is generally really sarcastic for someone who’s about to start crying at any given moment
