History of Mirrors
How odd would it be if days went by without being able to look into a mirror while styling your hair, shaving your beard, or even brushing your teeth? How dangerous would driving be without mirrors showing us the reflections of other cars and/or objects? There must have been a time when mirrors weren't invented and even after their invention, they probably weren't as commonly used as they are today. Do you ever wonder when people first started using mirrors?
The first mirrors ever created were made of polished stone, such as obsidian, and date back to 6000BC. However, people still found ways to look at their reflections way before that by looking into pools of water and such. Glass mirrors were first invented in Sidon, Lebanon in the first century AD. The earliest mirrors made were the size of pocket mirrors today, about 3 inches in diameter. Mirrors in that era were used exclusively by the ruling class. Venetian mirrors were invented in the 15th century. They are known for their purity and beauty but because of their costly and complicated production, they were often considered a luxurious object and difficult to obtain. It wasn't until the 1600s that mirrors were dressed with wooden frames.
Not only are mirrors abundantly available today to serve their initial purpose they are also a delightful artistic addition to any room or area. Art is very soothing and nice to look at in any home, and hotels are no exception. Hotel frames and mirrors are often chosen keeping art and style in mind. They don't necessarily have to be overly extravagant, modern and contemporary styles are also very pleasing to look at depending on the overall atmosphere of the hotel.
