“yeah, I have those all the time, except like everyday,” he quips with a small smile echoing back at her. there was a bit of relief etched upon her features– call it easy for him to read, the relaxed way she seemed to appear after realizing it was him. she was his neighbor and he really didn’t know much about her, most of the time he liked to keep it that way, but realistically he knew that it couldn’t stay that way forever, he had to at least get to know people and not be a complete hermit with his coworkers, with anyone. “I uh….” he scratches at the back of his head, “I’d like that, do you want me to head in with you or wait here? don’t mind either way. it’s been a long time since I just hung out with someone, with anyone for that matter.”

Melissa liked to think she could handle herself in a lot of situations and she certainly wasn’t scared of the dark, but with recent events she wouldn’t turn down a companion to enter an empty building at night. “ If you don’t mind... those cloaked whatever kind of have me on edge you know?” she said, letting out a nervous chuckle. She rubbed her lips together not liking feeling vulnerable in any sense. “I’m sorry, I probably sound nuts. Here I am... an actual monster from monster movies and I’m scared of some dumb cloaked people,” she shook her head.

Francis sighed. “Neither do I,” he admitted. This was supposed to be a safe haven for supernaturals. To learn how to blend in if they want to or to learn how to be comfortable with themselves in a world that may not accept them. “Hmm I get that. Students can be a handful,” he agreed. When she admitted about her wish his olive eyes flicked to her and motioned to the bartender. “Can I have a pen and napkin,” he asked the bartender and when he came back he took the pen and wrote down his number. “If you feel threatened at all don’t hesitate to call me,” he told her as he handed over the napkin. He can’t save everyone but he can certainly try. 

Melissa wasn’t expecting him to give her his number in any capacity so when he wrote it down on a napkin, she was more than a little surprised. She nodded at his words and took the napkin, offering him a small smile. “I will,” she promised before rubbing her lips together. She picked up her glass and took a long sip. “So um... if this isn’t any of my business, you can tell me to shove it and I’ll drop it,” she started with a light chuckle, “but what are you exactly? I can usually get a read on people but I’m coming up empty on you.”

“not into sports, that’s a shame. I really like Boxing, MMA and ice hockey,” he told her as he finished his drink and motioned for another. “Politics rarely represents people in general. Especially in these days when it represents the rich, hateful and fearful. Though in the past it was just monarchs who did what ever the fuck they want. So slightly better I guess,” he shrugged. “You’re right there. This place protects us. Well rather myself and others in my team protects us from what might be on the outside. Guess we have another problem on the inside now,” he sighed. He reflected on his drink. Not much different from his past. Taking out the monsters. Protecting those in need. It was why he took this job. 

Melissa was a little surprised to learn that he worked security... well not surprised when she thought about it. He definitely gave off that vibe. She felt a little better knowing people like him were keeping them... her safe. “I don’t like to think about that,” Melissa admitted quietly. She had seen the figures and they sent chills down her spine. She wished she was in a pack. She had felt so safe when she was in one before, now she was alone and she didn’t like it. “I don’t live on campus because I don’t want to be with my students twenty hours a day,” she smiled half-heartedly, “Now I’m kind of wishing I did.”

“…If it’s only ten seconds then why do you keep coming back for more?” he whispered between heated kisses with a smirk, unable to resist being a little shit even now, when she was in a position of being able to physically hurt him if she took offense at what he had to say. As she spoke, his lips began to trail down her jawline, fingertips trailing up to tangle within the dark tresses of her hair and he tugged a little to pull her head back and give him access to her neck, lips beginning at the woman’s collarbone as he pressed his lips there as he listened to her speak. Her hips rolling against his elicited a small growl from the man’s lips as he nipped at her jawline again, “What’s wrong with here?” he muttered as his hands trailed down her sides and towards her ass, pulling her closer as he pinned her against the wall. 

Melissa gasped quietly at his movement. She glanced around the empty campus. There was no one around and the night shadows would hide their act very well, but Melissa was more than hesitant. “If you can keep my tits in my top, then fine,” she whispered as her hips kept moving into his, “but you want to suck on my tits then we need somewhere private. “Oh please,” he said with an audible – unabashed – scoff. He used his other hand to pull her arm forward, enabling the young witch to hook her arm in his. That’s when he started for the campus exit. “It’s not as though the Real Housewives of some shitty city I’ve got no interest in is any better than the Kardashian’s. And to be fair, I don’t think I appreciate chit-chat to the contrary – marine life or otherwise. It’s the stingray, right? That’s your inside source. Fine. I can deal with that. Petting a stingray for a bottle of scotch. Sounds like easy booze to me.”

Melissa wasn’t sure this guy wasn’t completely sober because his level of excitement was miles above hers, but she wasn’t about to abandon him either. She was on this ride even if it ended up in a very bad hangover. “I didn’t mention that you would have to drink the scotch with me did I? I mean if that’s a deal breaker then I guess I can just give it you like the baby you’d be,” Melissa replied with a grin.

Francis took another drink and relaxed. He could give her the silent treatment but it wasn’t in his nature. She didn’t piss him off and she was being nice to him despite him being a massive grump. “Meaningless shit it is. What kind of meaningless shit you want to talk about? Sports, politics or something along those lines?” he asked her.  

Melissa smiled, happy that he had chosen conversation over mind-numbing silence. “I’m not into sports and I think politics are... let’s just say I don’t think they represent people like me,” she started “I mean we’re all here at this school ‘cause we don’t feel like we fit in anywhere else.” She shrugged her shoulders a little before finishing off her own drink. She motioned to the bartender for a second one.

He smiled. “No, but I don’t mind listening to you talk.” He admitted shyly, before turning his gaze back to the guide and leafing through it, looking for the correct page. “So how long do I have with you? So that I know I don’t miss any questions.” He said, though he couldn’t help but feel a little apprehensive about the fact that he would probably have to leave early. “I’m sure you have plans with some friends or boyfriend rather then a plan to help a student study.” A nervous chuckle fell from his lips.

“No boyfriend,” she found herself blurting out. Her cheeks turned a bright shade of red before laughing nervously herself. Shit, he was rubbing off on her. Why was she nervous? “I mean no plans and I’m so very single,” she answered honestly, “I am all yours for as long as you want me.” She gave him a sweet smile before she looked back down on her study guide “Unless your girlfriend or friends are expecting you,” she blurted out again, risking a glance up a him. Fuck. She was not at all keeping it together.

late nights were somewhat of a norm for jedidiah— it was peaceful on campus, still paranoid enough to live off campus, but the night was calm, no one asked much of you during those hours. unless he happened to bring someone home. but tonight seemed to be a grading papers night as he does end up seeing, another, but not only that his neighbor. luckily, he got all his grading done before he left his office. a greeting about to be given as he’s heading out down the lobby of the science building, “one of those nights, huh?” it’s a lame attempt at conversation, perhaps fear of getting too close, the fear of rejection. 

“You could say that yeah,” Melissa answered with a chuckle. She was relieved it was Jedidiah. He was more than a familiar face despite being somewhat confused about him. Her confusion wasn’t his fault though, it was all her. She looked toward her building where her phone was waiting then turned back to Jedidiah. “I need to grab my phone but I don’t have any plans if you want to walk home with me I can make it worth your while,” she offered with a grin, biting down her lip a little, “Meaning that I have a frozen pizza and a fridge full of beer.”

He nodded in her reply. Made him a bit relieved. “In your defence, most men your age are still immature and want to prove something,” he told her. He could tell she was a werewolf but in his experience he was finding that even those in their sixties had not got life all together yet. He took a drink from the drink she paid for and listened to her. He realised quickly he was still in a bit of a mood. It was tense and he didn’t mean to take it out on her. “I do appreciate it. Sorry just a bit tense at the moment,” he told her truthfully. No point in denying it.

Melissa nodded as her eyes went down to her own drink. People had their own shit and she didn’t expect anyone to fake a mood for her benefit. Never made sense to her. “We can sit here in silence or we can talk about meaningless shit while we drink,” she suggested. Her eyes moved up again so she was looking at the behind the bar activities. She felt like she wanted some company but she wouldn’t force herself on him. She knew she could be a bit much sometimes.

He nodded as he reached out to take the guide. “I’m sorry, I think I’ve forgotten mine at home.” He admitted with an apologetic smile. “Closet? Is it because you own a lot of clothes?” He asked, wanting to make a bit of a friendly conversation, if only to try and calm down, but also because he secretly wanted to get to know her a little better as well. Jack couldn’t help but simply stare at her for a few seconds before realizing what he was doing and averting his gaze.

Melissa shrugged a little. “I don’t know, I guess I have a lot of clothes... I mean it looks like a lot when I can’t find that one top or dress I’m looking for and everything is just thrown everywhere,” Melissa paused, realizing she was rambling and shook her head, “I’m sorry this is not what you what you came here for.” She offered him a big smile trying to ignore the fact that he kept looking at her with those sweet eyes. It was more than a little distracting. He had a look about him where it felt like he was actually looking at her, not just her physical appearance.

he watched the movement of her tongue over her lips, like honey glistening in the light he found it a little hard to look away after. “yes, I am.” he agreed with her, eyes moving from her lips but expression staying deadpan. “but my name is frey. Combat and warfare— hence the training.”

Melissa nodded, forcing her eyes to stay up on his face this time. “Warfare huh? Like weapons and stuff or do you consider your body a lethal weapon?” she asked curiously, knowing exactly how it sounded but it was all her brain could form while he was standing there... existing like that.

He hesitated for a brief second. Sitting that close. To her? Fate was surely mocking him. Showing him that no matter how close he was to her, nothing could happen. Still he nodded and settled down next to her. “Well I do have some questions.” He blushed brightly at her choice of words, already starting to feel a little uncomfortable sitting this close to her. Avoiding his gaze he started to shuffle through his papers. “I’m sorry for being so disorganized Ma’am. I’m just a little nervous.”

“Seriously Jack, you can call me Melissa. Ma’am makes me feel so much older than I am,” she smiled as she waited for him to find what he was looking for. She turned around and reached into a nearby drawer. She took out the study guide she’d handed out a few days ago figuring that was what he was looking for. “Were you looking for this?” she asked curiously, “And don’t feel bad about being disorganized. My apartment and specifically my closet are a nature disaster.”

To say he was nervous would be an understatement. But Jack was willing to go through whatever these feelings were. But it was proving to be a little hard considering his new teacher was gorgeous and he could hardly do much in her class other then blush every time she would look at him. Other times he found himself daydreaming. And lets just say he always needed a very very cold shower after every daydream. He really needed to get a grip on himself. Besides she was a teacher. He was a student. Jack was pretty sure it would never be legal. Though the thought of it being forbidden seemed to turn him on even more. A revelation that had him groaning in frustration as he lay in bed one night.

And now here he was, heart racing and palms sweating as he stepped into her office with a slightly uncertain smile. “Thank you for seeing me Ms. Fox. I’m sorry for taking up your personal time.” He added, feeling slightly guilty having to ask for her help is her leisure time.

Melissa got to her feet and quickly shook her head. She shot him a friendly smile and motioned for him to take the seat right to the side of her desk. “Jack it’s fine. It’s more than fine it’s my job,” she explained before sitting back down. She rested her elbow on her desk and patted the empty area next to her. “So let’s get to studying. Lay all your questions on me. Even the hard ones. I love a good hard one,” she grinned.

He noticed the person he saved came up to sit next to him. He wasn’t in a particularly chatty mood but he also realised she could sit wherever she wanted. She then started about putting his drink on her tab and his next one. That was generous. “Thanks. You don’t have to do that. I stepped in because they were pissing me off,” he told her. Well it was pissing him off because they were disrespecting someone in his vicinity. “Get trouble like that often?” he asked. Hoping that this was a one off. 

“Do I have bad taste in men? Sure. Does it usually result in that happening? Never,” Melissa answered honestly before she took a long sip from her drink. She kept her gaze forward, getting a standoffish vibe from him. “And in reference to the drinks, I buy drinks for who I want to buy drinks for. The only things I do because I have to is pay taxes and breathe.”

Try to deny it as he might, he was a sucker for helping people. So the chances were good he wasn’t gonna just leave her to this task anyway. “He nodded as she spoke up again. “Oh yea, no problem, glad to help.” he answered, following nearby her.He could almost pick up on a sense of tension coming from her just before she turned to him. “Oooh, yea, that’s a good point. I’m Victor Reyes, but feel free to call me Vic. Though my next of kin are bloodthirsty hunters, so, I’ll just have to live on in your memory for however long you last after me.” Vic chuckled licking his lips as well. “Duly noted. A wolf named Fox. I like it.  Well, in case we don’t make it outta there, un placer conocerte, Zorita.” he said giving her a wink as he kept walking.

Melissa had to take a moment and tell little Melissa to keep it under control. So he spoke Spanish. So he gave her a nickname in Spanish. Wasn’t a big deal. She didn’t need a cold shower. She didn’t need new panties. Nope. Everything was good. She took a deep breath before she followed after him. “I... uh,” she started, goddamn it she needed to be able to talk, “you... wolf.” She rolled her eyes, her cheeks a deep shade of red as they entered the building. “I didn’t realize there were that many of us here,” she finally was able to say. She really hoped he just thought she was a weirdo and not extremely attracted to him. She had a feeling about him that he wasn’t just another wolf. There was more power that came with him.
