I'm an artist from Brazil and I speak English + Portuguese

I mostly post Life Series, Hermitcraft and Minecraft stuff in general

[The Minecraft Mob Bestiary]

You find a book in one of your adventures. The cover is torn and the pages are yellow and stained, an indication of its age. You open it and inside is a world of illustrations and observations made by researcher forgotten by time itself. But maybe these studies are all the legacy they need...

A project started in 2021, The Minecraft Mob Bestiary is a series of paintings and writing snippets based on (almost) all of the original Minecraft creatures. It's all made with traditional watercolours and pencils, but some things may be edited digitally. You can:

This is more of a silly drawing exercise than a full project, but here's where I turn all Life Series players into little creatures, just because I can. Since this isn't serious or anything, I use this to really experiment with my art, so expect some inconsistencies. You can:

There's a little something extra I wanted to add to the Creeper's page description, but I couldn't find a smooth way to implement it without making it ten times longer and more convoluted. Which is: why is the Creeper such a prominent image in Minecraft's structures?

I believe the Creeper was very widely used as a weapon by ancient civilizations. They would intentionally scatter these creatures outside of their kingdom's walls to serve as sentinels. If any enemies approached, the Creepers would send the first warning to the kingdom's guards by exploding and calling attention to the very spot the invasion was happening.

Additionally, Creepers were also very effective in direct combat. Armies would often lead their attacks by first releasing Creepers onto the battlefield, then picking off whoever was left.

Because of this, Creepers became very well known throughout multiple places and cultures and were often seen as a representation of protection and security, both physical and spiritual, their image often being used in temples and other such structures. Those who were more cynical, however, simply saw them as symbols of war, destruction and senseless violence.

These conflicting ideas persisted until the very last civilization fell. Now, Creepers are simply another living being existing in this world, as real and wild and fragile as any other life around them.

Despite what is normally thought, Creepers are not animals, but a unique species of fungi. Their life cycle starts when their spores find a favorable place, dark and humid, to grow, like lush forests or caves. These spores multiply until a green and branched body is formed, visually indistinguishable from true moss or liquen. It’s only in their second year of life that Creepers begin to develop characteristics innate to the species: a big sturdy stalk with a smooth grey tip. By the third year, Creepers already have a long neck and developed face, with primitive eyes only capable of distinguishing light and shadow and a crack that, although looking like a mouth, is used to detect smells and air particles, as well as the direction of the wind. From then on, the front legs begin to grow, finishing in the fifth year, and, in the seventh, the back legs are also done. That’s when a Creeper starts wandering the world.

 Usually, adult Creepers only live for a few weeks. They have only one objective: spread their spores. For that, all they need is to find a possible threat. They approach it, their light thin legs silencing their steps, and then they explode by rapidly heating up the chemicals in their body. This way, the threat is eliminated and the spores are thrown in the atmosphere, guaranteeing the propagation of the species.

 A curious behaviour that can be observed in Creepers is their fear of cats. The leafy bodies of these creatures have similar effects to catnip, attracting felines that can end up damaging essential structures to the survival of these beings. Therefore, instead of exploding, Creepers prefer running away, making it so cats are very efficient at keeping these creatures away.

WE'RE HERE, WE'RE AT THE END!

After so long (and an embarrassingly long time since the end of Wild Life), I can finally present the last of the Life Series animals: BigB, the deer! Specifically a fallow deer of darker coloration. The reason? Idk man, it's just the vibes. But I do really like this design :3

And with this, this series is over! I'll definitely do some other pieces with these designs (and maybe redesign some of them), but the bulk of it is done and I hope you were all able to enjoy it :D

Cleo as a hydra whose heads don't regrow and who had to sew one back on manually. Technically also a naga inspired by the gorgon skin and the Quetzalcoatl/Kukulkan shop. Lotsa snakes.

This is inspired by my& idea of how far I& can push the hermit designs until they stop being recognizable. Hopefully I&'ll be able to come up with more ideas like this.

So... I took an unexpected break because life has been honestly super tough lately. But I finally feel like posting again, so here we go.

Today I humbly present to you... Mountain gazelle Scott! Knows how to escape from any and all tough situations, but those antlers can also do some real damage if he really wants to.

Honestly there's some things I'd love to add to the design now, but oh well! Don't be too surprised if any future art of him gets some minor changes

Cleo's finally here! And they're an iguana!

I definetly had to add some sort of reptile to this series and I think it fit Cleo the best. The only thing is the hair, but... let's just say it's some really overgrown quills :)

I considered many other animals for her, including an owl or dingo, but I ended up settling for the maned wolf in the end. I mean, it just makes so much sense, I couldn't possibly resist

I'll be honest, this one stumped me for so long I thought of just giving up. Nothing seemed to work, but, in the end, all I needed was to just step away and change some little things. Now, why is he a badger? Idk, vibes i guess. I just think it works really well for some reason

This clever little one was inspired by the Brazilian tororó (Poecilotriccus plumbeiceps), a very small bird that inhabits various regions, such as the Atlantic Forest of the Southeast and South.

Now it's following the tracks of an ancient bird civilization... 🍃

Mob Bestiary, Page 7

A sneaky and clever creature, Phantoms are flying reptiles with nocturnal habits and unique behaviors. The skin on their torso and wings is semi transparent, making it so they can camouflage effectively against the night sky while flying. They take advantage of that to catch their prey by surprise and escape from potential threats. They live in small groups of 2 to 4 individuals, that hunt, care for nests and cubs and sleep together. These groups shelter on hard to reach places, like dense forest treetops and ledges on rockwalls, to rest during the day and, at nightfall, they leave to search for food, water and nest materials. Phantoms are opportunistic predators that prefer hunting vulnerable and weakened prey. They are capable of stalking other creatures for three days straight, waiting until their targets tire out to make scream like vocalizations, scaring them and preventing them from resting. Only when their prey is sufficiently weak and exhausted, Phantoms attack, diving from the skies and biting with sharp and piercing teeth, before coming back up. The group alternate their attacks: while one bites, another prepares to dive right afterwards. They continues this assault until their target passes from blood loss, then they rip off pieces of meat and return with them to the nest.

imagine you’re a tiny thing. your mama is big and strong so you follow her everywhere. she’s very strong, which is why when she falls asleep on the floor you sit with her. you sit with her until she starts to fall apart. but its ok because she’s strong. and then you get really, really, really thirsty, and you think if you sleep it’ll be okay. and then you wake up surrounded by water and you see a face beyond the water and its blurry and you dont know how to feel about it so you go back to sleep and then you keep seeing the face beyond the water and they talk to you in soft words you dont understand and you’re still so small and confused but you know the face beyond the water is helping you. maybe it loves you. but you’re a tiny thing. and then one day you decide you’ve had enough water, and then you start to move. and you see the face beyond the water, who is so happy to see you and they do something you’ve never seen a face do, their mouth curls at the end in a smile and youve never seen it so you do it too and you keep doing it because you love the face beyond the water so much and they love you too and they’re strong like mama and they feed you and pet you and love you and one day you grow so big they can ride you. and they make you a hat and goggles to protect your eyes and they show you all sorts of wonderful things and YES this is about the happy ghast from minecraft im OBSESSED

It is always there, in the back of my mind.

When I'm trying to work, it slithers into my brain until I lose my focus. When I let my thoughts wander, it consumes me until it is the only thing I can think about. When I'm in the shower, it overwhelms even the sound of the cascading water. When I'm trying to sleep, it replays over and over so even in my dreams I can't escape.

Part of me wonders if it will be there forever, until my very last breath.

I genuinely forgot to post this guy, but now here we are! I present to you Tango as a weasel! But with mostly ferret patterns… Oh well, at least those two are pretty similar. I think a weasel fits him pretty well, with their sneaky and cunning natures. He might be cute, but he will bite when you least expect it.
