You know what I love about the old cartoon classics (W.I.T.C.H, Totally spies, Winx club)? The characters where allowed to be as girly as they wanted and still be completely kick-arse. Hay-lin and Irma could be flirty and giggly without being shown as in any way inferior to Will the tomboy. Bloom could be the keeper of the dragon flame and still worry about her hair and nails and boys. Because being girly does not automatically equal being weak. Â
literally most girls on media are feminine and are never inferior to the rare tomboy characters who exist why r u acting like itâs something that happens lol
^ yup. and have people ever seen how the very rare âmasculineâ female characters are treated lol? because they most definitely arenât treated the same way male heroes are
most âtomboyâ characters are presented as undesirable and freaky, get called lesbians (but are 100% straight) as an insult, are compared to men in a derogatory way (e.g. in aliens, a female military person is asked âhave you ever been mistaken for a man?â because sheâs muscular and has short hair), are told theyâre ugly, need to act like women, etc
you all Really need to take off your femmephobia glasses and stop acting like butches and gnc women are treated as heroes or like our masculinity is rewarded in any way. i have literally never benefitted in any way from being butch, i never see characters like myself on screen who arenât treated like dirt, and iâm fucking tired of feminine women trying to claim that misogyny stems from hatred of femininity (and thus, feminine girls are punished more while masculine women are rewarded)
Why are all gaming computers like a fucking laser light show
oh cool xkit decided to start working for me again
@scarybalkanlady exactly...and the worst part is they donât just want to say that the movieâs feminist, it has to be the most feminist work of media ever (and ofc the reason itâs the most feminist thing ever is because elle is a stereotype of femininity because we all know in tumblr-land only the most feminine of women characters are truly feminist)
Iâd love to never see another post about Legally Blonde again
gay creator: exists
tumblr dot hell: 30,000 word essay about how one aspect of one scene/chapter/episode was problematic and therefore the whole thing is irredeemable; 10,000 notes, âomg end them,â death threats, if theyâre a woman suddenly theyâre a terf somehow
straight creator: hints that one of their straight characters might be a little bicurious
tumble dot hellsite dot biz: OMG PEAK LGBT REPRESENTATION!!!! y'all claim you want inclusivity you better not sleep on this!!!! Representation Matters!!!! iconic frankly!!!!!!
new metric for your personality as an adult = what you named your most iconic stuffed animal as a kid
i had âbabyâ ânew babyâ and âbabiesâ and that really is all you need to know about me
âpiggyâÂ
My most iconic stuffed animal was a corner of the yellow border of my baby blanket, which I named âPartâ. Because it was a part of the border.Â
Yeah.
I had a Dalmatian named Patch (he didnât have a patch) and a yellow blanket named Blanket and a kind of spaniel dog named Christi, after my aunt. I was not an exciting child.
I tried so hard to rename my stuffed dog something exciting, like Comet or Starfire, but eventually I had to admit his name was always going to be Spot.
when i was three i got an alligator plush from the alligator farm and named him Heart Pink Dress
tiny brain: lord of the flies with girls
bigger brain: lord of the flies wouldnât work with girls because theyâd work together and get off the island
expanding brain: girls and women are capable of violence and cruelty too
galaxy brain: young girls could build an equally hellish micro-society but it would function differently from the original because of differing socialization and men arenât qualified to write it anyway
Whatâs striking about the discourse produced by sex positivity is how straight all of it is and how much of it absents sexualities that donât center cishet men. Women oriented sexualities never appear within the discussions that the sex positive movement encourages, and there is little to no attention devoted to lesbian sex and its mechanics, and what it means to have sex as a lesbian, or even as a woman who desires women. For all the kink related content that dominates the sex positive movement and the talk of âqueeringâ sexuality through the practice of overwhelmingly heterosexual âdeviantâ practices, youâll be hard pressed to find any resources discussing lesbian sex/woman oriented sex (whether it involve cis or trans women) in detail.
It just goes to show how sex posi discourse is not really all that subversive or about challenging prevailing norms. As another post put it, our society is more liberal about sexuality than in the past but still patriarchal and oppressive in other ways
i really donât like the whole âtell your parents off and call them out when theyâre being racist/homophobic/etc even if it gets you in trouble with themâ argument especially when it pertains to minors and people who still rely on their parents financially. you canât morally advocate for a minor to tell off their parents when it involves them risking their own safety and well-being. and youâd be surprised how many people iâve seen on this godforsaken website doing just that.
I ended up having a really interesting conversation with some people at the bus stop today. They were getting out of some sort of âclean and soberâ meeting and had starting saying how they were so bored because they didnât have anything to do, and had to stay at home because all their old friends would pull them back. So I said something like, âSo this is the time to do all the stuff your parents told you they didnât have money/time for!â âWhatcha mean?â âYou know, like when you were five and you REALLY wanted to have that toy or do that thing and you were like, âPlease mom please I gotta have this I gotta go do thisâ and they went âHell no you think Iâm paying for that do you want to goddamn EAT?â â And this light went on in their eyes. The lady is going to go check thrift stores for an Easybake Oven and I told her about Wilton cake decorating classes. The dude is going to Griffith Park and ride horses, because, âI always wanted to be a cowboy, and you canât drink when youâre on a horse âcause youâll fucking die!â Fuck it. This is what being an adult is. Sure itâs bills and work and relationships, but damn it, itâs also time to do the things you LIKE. I signed up for a free class/lecture on Water Gardens. Iâm going. Itâs time.
Jill. Jill you are wonderful.
