No, you see, I wish to be an author. Not in marketing. Or an influencer. I wish to tell my stories, be told I did a fantastic job, and then go back to my hovel to scribble some more. I am delicate of constitution and awkward in crowds.
Like I really hate how doing something "for attention" gets portrayed as something that only reflects badly on the person who eventually acts out in their distress instead of something that reflects badly on the people who clearly failed to make this person feel seen and supported
we've definitely posted about this before but if i see one more person act like the only forms of childhood trauma that exist are abuse from family or sexual assault i will actually start crying and it will be so so so loud everyone will hear it from every corner of the earth
THE SCHOOL SYSTEM !!! PEER ABUSE !!!!! ISOLATION !!!!!!!! RACISM !!! SEXISM !!!!!! MEDICAL ABUSE !!!!!! NONCONSENSUAL SURGERY !!!! POVERTY !!!! SO MUCH MORE !!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
edit: i made this in a high school enduced rage and didnt expect it to blow up like this ?

I think that if you had enough daughters AND played your cards right you could spring Mambo Number Five out at the EXACT right gathering and shatter your entire family's trust forever
The secret is to name them out of order with the lyrics so by the time anyone catches on it's too late
For me personally the ideal gathering would be my funeral
A little bit for Monica, she's my wife
A little bit for Erica, for her strife
My books all go to Rita, cause she reads
My greenhouse goes to Tina, she plants trees
The furniture is Sandra's, on my lawn
Jewelry for Mary, she can pawn
Ashes go to Jessica, that's my plan
A little bit of me inside a can (ah!)
you know when i say you don't have control over being disabled and some people are like "nahh you do bruv" and other people are like "sure bc we can control genetics or accidents [eyeroll]." they're making a fair point but it does remind me that "we can't control genetics " is only partially true and people have been trying to control it for hundreds of years and that's eugenics baby. people who believe you can control your way out of being disabled are halfway down the disability eugenics pipeline and that sentiment is incredibly widespread, and that, precisely, is the problem

this is what healthcare is like as a disabled person
living life unable to satiate my inner potential because of oppression and disability is actually just hell and i dont know what to do anymore.
i had dreams of having my own artists loft. i had dreams of advocacy work. i had dreams of exploring the world around me. i had dreams of selling my arts and crafts and using my skills for mutual aid.
i had dreams of being part of a friend group that functioned more like a found family. i had dreams of belonging somewhere and having something to dedicate my time towards beyond surviving.
and yet after everything ive been through. now that i finally have my own space and income (welfare prince). its just barely enough. im so sick now. my body is just. shot. completely.
im so weak. i used to be so much stronger, even if ive always been somewhat frail. ive been watching my body slowly deteriorate for years. thinking the entire time that there has to be something i can do. something im doing wrong that i can change. something something something.
im so jealous of everyone who got to "return to their lives" after the lockdowns ended. im so fucking jealous so many of them dont know what they fucking have. they take the life they have today for granted. and have the fucking gall to shame those of us who have no normal to return to.
i had dreams. now i have these walls and an internet connection. i cannot see a future that makes me feel fulfilled as things are now. and i just want to see it again, even if it looks different than before. instead of having to imagine the stars aligning just so i can live. fuck capitalism and fuck ableism.
it has taken my local council 9 weeks to order my new blue badge. i asked about how long and they told me it can be up to 12 weeks. do they think disabled people have endless time to wait? not only, but that disabled people have to be so on the ball that they can reapply for their badge 3 months in advance or risk having no ability to go places? even if their proof of disability might not be ready that early. anyway it's another 10 days to dispatch.
they really don't respect the time of disabled people. your application can take up to 12 weeks. the specialist waitlist is 3 years. your assessment will be any time within the next 6 months. let us know if you cannot attend this appointment you waited 7 weeks for and we'll reschedule next year. we've decided to assess you at this time and day and you have to be available or any support you dared to apply for is not going to happen. and in between these long bouts of waiting you have to survive the everyday
disabled people have endless time apparently but also actually we're only really around at certain times right? so the disabled person bus pass only needs to be valid after 9am and before 6pm. because it's not like disabled people have places to be right? they don't visit places or work or go out in the evenings.
yeah our covid safe hour. for the first hour of our event we're asking everyone to wear masks. obviously everyone who needs protection from pathogens can arrive exactly on time and won't take longer than an hour to go through our whole event. not like they've got anything else to do, or any sort of time restrictions.
yeah our accessible viewing is at 7am on a wednesday. because you lazy fucks don't work right? we put it in the least appealing time slot just for you disabled people because everyone else has important things to do. i'm sure everyone can wake up early and get support to go out early and feels like watching a film at the ass crack of dawn. but hey we're accessible. look. we've made all these concessions and accommodations. what do you mean you want to decide your own schedule? disabled people don't exist after dark
we're moving to an internet where children would be banned from reaching out for help and friendship online but abusive parents can post their children's every second online to humiliate and expose them for money with no pushback
aww so cutes
livin the dream
So! This is a perfect case study in situations where you should be wary of misinformation.
Take a moment and ask yourself, a project like this requires a lot of time, money and dedication of resources, why would scientists dedicate that time to something that could just be done by a tree?
The answer is they wouldn't. So that means this claim requires further investigation!
This project is called LIQUID 3, and it's not meant for cities with wide open spaces, it's meant for cities like Belgrade in Serbia. These cities are densely populated and heavily polluted, to the point where pollution actually chokes out current trees and makes creating green spaces difficult.
Liquid 3 was a PhD scientists answer to these problems. The microalgae tank is intended for spaces where you either:
Don't have enough space to plant full trees, or
Don't have enough time to plant trees and wait for them to grow up.
The tank is extremely efficient when you consider the amount of space needed compared to the amount of CO2 turned into oxygen. The tank can operate throughout the winter. And most importantly, it can be quickly set up in areas that desperately need relief from air pollution NOW not in 10 years when trees are done growing. Children currently suffocating on polluted air can't wait for trees to grow, they need to be taken care of now, and Liquid 3 is one of the ways to take care of them. Depending on the species of microalgea used, a number have shown a pretty amazing capacity to pull heavy metals out of the air which is something trees can get choked up by.
The tanks aren't just tanks either! Liquid 3 have solar panels placed on top, they have lighting and mobile phone charging, and they work as public benches. The designers of it want to encourage green spaces where there's room, but where there isn't room or time, Liquid 3 can step in. Realistically, this isn't a replacement for trees. It's replacing boring metal city benches with new, cooler benches that also clean the air (and have at least some heating during the winter).
Not only that, but the microalgea that grows is native to Serbia and all that microalgea has a ton of great uses! It makes for great fertilizer, compost, wastewater treatment, cleaner biofuels and even for helping create new tanks for further air purification. They only require a quick algae divide once a month, and the produced algae can be carted off to where ever it's needed. This makes them effective solutions for areas that can't sustain complex installations.
So yeah, there's actually quite a lot of places that would like these. Lots of people currently breathing in terrible quality air would much rather have their boring city benches replaced with really fucking cool algae tanks that clean the air and can be used to help create + sustain future green spaces in cities. I dunno about you, but I'd take that over a dumb metal bench any day. Put these at every bus stop and I'd be delighted.
can ppl pls reblog this version
Serbian here living in Belgrade! This is all true and I've actually seen some of these around the city a few times. They're amazing at what they do and really cool to watch up close because you can see pretty swirling inside them. It's not only functional but aesthetically pretty nice as well!
