You’re visible LGBTQ allies, but some have suggested you’re stringing the community along for a fan base. Is that unfair? For me, it’s a little personal. It’s obvious what my [“Cool for the Summer”] lyrics are about. Just because I never said anything bluntly [about experiences with women] doesn’t mean I’m exploiting it.- Demi Lovato for Billboard Magazine
The Maine has been a band for YEARS and YEARS without winning substantial awards or getting the recognition they deserve, and they continue to get shoved to the back and buried under other artists. They did a free tour last year all on their own. They’ve been the only band in the neon pop era who gracefully transitioned from that to alternative rock (not to mention the only neon pop band still kicking). They’re one of the only bands in the scene who has progressively shaped their sound with every album they release. They’re innovative with every thing they put out- most recently being their covers eps where each song cover sounds like their originals. They recorded American Candy in a MONTH making one of the (if not the) most solid album of 2015 for the scene it’s involved in and it only featured 10 songs. The lyrics on each record are remarkable. No verse is anything but calculated and intellectually planned out in such crafted poetry. John’s words are blissful especially in regards to song writing. The attitude and overall vibes they protrude is nothing but of genuine and positive nature. They’re well cultured, and never in the line of fire for drama or ignorance. They work under their own record label. They sign other bands they feel have potential to blossom. They singlehandedly do everything they do behind the scenes of the business of the band by themselves.
and most importantly The Maine has been a band for 9 years and they deserve a lot more than they receive.
