one of my hardships when writing especially dialogue is letting the characters get distracted by the incidental flavor things they end up saying

character flavor is a fun little thing but then it’s like well now how am I supposed to reel this back into the main story. now you’re all upset because nikei said rude things

Hajime’s mouth hung open, but no words came out. He glanced from Emma to Iroha before settling on Nikei, whom he expected to have an answer. “What does that have to do with publicity?!” 

“This is why we shouldn’t interpret her literally!” Nikei rubbed his temples. “You do what you want. You wanna link arms down Sonia Nevermind’s budget runway, you can go fucking do it.”

“Okay, but bro… piss off with the attitude. Keep pushin’ and Inori and Tsumiki’ll be putting you back together and I’d hate to ruin their night.”

“Noooo, what have I done?!” Iroha clutched her head, eyes glassy with the threat of tears. “Why did I say anything?!”

I always have a hard time getting myself to write anything to conclusion so at least I am going to post a very unfinished thing so that it doesn’t fester in one of my drives. Written mostly during power outage so I didn’t have much access to fact checking any of the possibly weird rules HPA may have

Contents: Void Kids Quartet Banter (so Void spoilers ofc) in non-despair Hope’s Peak (more or less based on Ultimate Talent Development Plan’s verse). It’s a choochoo train of them ribbing each other really. Two curse words (including an f-bomb) because Someone is a gremlin. One little reference to DR3 but obviously not necessary foreknowledge. plasters yet another large “unfinished” disclaimer on this, it’s not long and it’s probably super jumpy but it’s all i’ve got lol

It was three months ago that teachers started warning the students about their final projects. As an institution cultivating a diverse range of ultimate talents, Hope’s Peak did not have many concrete requirements, other than to show how well they have improved and pushed the limit of their field. While mostly unspoken, all of Hope’s Peak students knew that the teachers were looking for every project or presentation to be more impressive than their last. 

“I have no idea what to do with my final,” Hajime Makunouchi was sprawled out on the grass staring aimlessly into the sky.

 “Like… I know they say doing collabs with others is fine, but it’s super weird mixing professional fight styles?”

“Isn’t the head of security the Former Ultimate Boxer?” Emma tilted her head in Hajime’s direction from the bench she was seated at, along with Nikei and Iroha -- both of whom were busy scribbling on their respective pads of paper. 

“I am not asking former world champion Juzo Sakakura for anything, Emma!”

“Oh, do you already have stars in your eyes? He hasn’t punched you yet!” 

“Stop!” Hajime quickly sat up and glared at Emma -- though Emma couldn’t help laughing since his sunglasses always hid his glares.

“It’s not worth bothering that guy and his piss-poor attitude anyway,” Nikei commented without looking up. 

“Worse than yours?”

“Wow, everyone’s a fucking comedian, huh?” Nikei’s retort went unheard and his middle finger unacknowledged. Iroha giggled, and Emma offered a high five to Hajime because she did love a good roast between friends.

Hajime grinned and leaned back into the grass, propped up on his elbows. “Never mind that. How about you, Emma?” 

“Ahh… I’ve been trying to think of something! I don’t think another silly old live soliloquy will be impressing anyone. Iroha, Nikei, do you have plans yet?” 

“Oh, not at all…” Iroha glanced at her feet. “But… something will come to me eventually, probably…”

Nikei visibly rolled his eyes, despite returning focus to his notepad. “So you’re gonna cram it all in the last week and cry at me nonstop while you do it?” 

“Hey!” Iroha’s face scrunched up in annoyance as she retorted, her expression still managing to carry a pitiable quality about it, “You always get all testy and stressed out during finals week too, Nikei!”

“Yeah, but I don’t put off my projects for thirty years like you do. Hell, the scoop I’ve been working on recently could easily be good enough for my final. No, I won’t tell you about it.”

“...No one asked about it,” Iroha sighed, barely only loud enough for herself to hear.
