Miso is terrible right now
Hey all, I have struggled with misophonia for over 15 years now, and all the doctors I have gone think I am a drama queen and am making it up. I have very few close friends because of this condition, and I am struggling. I have driven the my girlfriend away from me. she is the love of my life and I want to get as soon as I can. I was wondering if you know of any good behind the ear noise generators? Or if you have any tips on helping with my misophonia. I have the Bose noise cancelling headphones and those things work wonders. However I can't always have those on so it is hard without them. Any help is appreciated.
Heyo!Good news: i finally talked to my therapist about my problems with misophonia. I even told her the more serious things (you know, bad thoughts) which im ashamed of but she was cool and the other lady was really nice and talked to me about books and i went to school and had a good day.They say we're gonna work on it, talk to the school councelor.Let me take time out of classes when shit gets shittier. I think my moms understand how terrible i have it now too.Thought you should know!😁

Ive been dealing with miso since the fifth grade and I'm about to be a senior in high school, but I've never been diagnosed and may never be. Last year it was really at it's worst when I had more than once locked myself in the small class bathroom to avoid the sounds my teacher was making with her gum and eventually dropped the class altogether, which was thankfully an elective. the online miso community has really helped me even if only to self advocate and find to vocab to talk about it.

I have to say I feel very strongly about it. Let me explain. Where I come from, years and years back, there was a war. and in this war, lots of soldiers needed to be treated for PTSD. Someone somewhere thought it would be a good idea to treat it with exposure to trigger noises. And the soldiers were hurt. Some committed suicide some never got better.
I think treating with exposure is not for everyone and in order to take part in this treatment you have to be fully aware of what it means for you, and be a strong person.
Did anyone try acoustic foam to block out noise from their room?
hey dude i saw a post slash video at one point that proved layering towels worked better for noise isolation. ive thought about it but havent gone for it yet. good luck. sorry i cant source the post right now.

I tried explains my misophonia to my doctor, she refused to listen to me and continuously told me it was my period and prescribed me some medicine I don't need. I'm really pissed rn
Oh anon I'm so sorry. This message got lost in my inbox and because it's exam period I didn't actively look at it!I know how it feels. I've been to quite a few doctors who refused to listen. But don't give up! Don't give up because you'll find the right doctor one day. Keep on looking!
I need to go shopping. Any really good headphone and earplug suggestions? I have some cheap headphones but they just aren't cutting it in school. I'm really afraid of using earplugs in public because I'm afraid someone will ask me about them but I at least need some for home when my family eats downstairs and car rides.

okay so earplugs:
First of all, look for the 31-31Db ones. They’re the strongest and the work wonders. I have both Macks’ and Walgreens’ generic brand and they both are good, so I think whatever brand you find with 31-32Db should do great.
earphones are a little bit harder though.
You could go with te absolutely expensive choice, and look for active noise cancellation, which will bring you to find Bose headphones or earphones. They’re crazy expensive but I hear they’re the best. I don’t have them, but @powertotheoctopus does, and she’s awesome, so maybe she can give her opinion here.
You could look for a little cheaper option with Passive noise cancellation ones, or rather noise isolating ones. the usually come in an in-ear or over-ear shape, and they’re supposed to block out outside noise. They do their job, but you have to remember they’re not active. On the plus side, though, they don’t require charging or batteries.
If you’re looking for headphones to put on without music, these are the best options. But’ if you’re looking for ones to just play music through loud enough to block out the world, I’d say you should go with in-ear ones, because they are small, so they’re less noticeable, and they block some of the noise because they’re in your ear canal.

Hi, my miso is Really Bad and it's gotten worse. I can't control myself anymore unless I leave the room or house. I can't use earphones all the time. And I won't tell my dad about my miso 'cause I think REALLY bad thoughts and my dad doesn't think mental illness exists. I want a doc's help but the medical care here Sucks. I'm scared 'cause one day I will go into a rage and I won't be myself anymore. I don't want to go to jail. I need help but I know therapy won't help. Not w/ miso this severe.
Hi anon! I’m so so so sorry to hear that.
I know that it can be hard to tell the parents, but sometimes you think badly about parents’ reactions and you’re wrong.
What’s most important, though, is that you know that once I thought that where I come from is the worst medical care in the world, and yet I found the only doctor (or, one of two I think) who treats miso, and she helped me so much. Even with telling the parents. So don’t give up on hope.

Where did you go and what doctor finally diagnosed you? My family doesn't believe in misophonia and tried to convince me I was being unreasonable, hateful, and selfish. I started researching my symptoms and found misophonia/4s. I definitely have this and I hope my family might start to understand if I get an actual diagnosis. I'm glad you were able to get help because I know how frustrating it can be when you don't have it
i went from doctor to doctor until I found the one. You can read about it in my post about my hearing aids if you want.
You didn’t mention where you’re from, but there are lists around the web with doctors that treat miso, and if you want to mention where you’re from I might be able to help.
Hi!! As a movie-fanatic with Misophonia, I'm often anxious watching films, not knowing what trigger sound will show up next. So I've created a blog called "Misophonia & Cinema" to track movies that I'm watching a rate them on sound-safe scale so that other people can check in on movies they want to watch so they know when to mute or take a break. My misophonia is ruining my life and I don't know what to do. I'm constantly screamed at or made fun of by people in my family when I am bothered by the sounds they make. I try my hardest to ignore the sounds but I physically can't. Leaving the room doesn't help either, because I'm yelled at for that as well. My mom says she understands but she doesn't and refuses to let me try to explain what it's really like. She never does anything to stop my sister from making unnecessary triggering sounds.

Do you think you can get officially diagnosed without your mother’s help? It really helped my parents to understand when I came home with a letter from the doctor. The read it and it seemed like what they always needed was a doctor’s validation of miso.
