I really dislike people on Facebook.
This is mesmerizing to watch.
actually physically painful to watch because you know months were spent masking all those frames for each of the kajillions of transitions in this

Tumblr, you’re killing art.
This is a horrible website for art. This is a horrible website for artists.
The only art that ever gets attention here is fanart, or artists who already have thousands of followers.
Nothing new is ever added to the mix, nothing else ever gets out there, because you guys see art, and while you might think it’s cool, you keep on scrolling because it isn’t Undertale or Homestuck or whatever sports anime is popular right now. You only give attention to fanart, and even that is an elitist club where attention is only given to the chosen few fandoms.
Artists who create original work are getting less and less support all the time. I’m feeling it, and I’m seeing my friends get less support too. We’re losing followers. Our note count is going down.
“Do art for yourself!” People say. But that only goes so far. No matter how you slice it, getting ignored and snubbed constantly on pieces you spent precious hours on while you watch the notes on a quick fanart doodle soar into the thousands hurts. We don’t create art to place it in a dark room and never be looked at. No artist ever posts art here thinking “I hope no one looks at this and it gets no notes.”
Encouragement and praise go a long way to help artists with original ideas, but you guys don’t care about original ideas. They’re falling by the wayside. Soon there won’t be any new things to make fanart of. How many movies that have come out in recent years have been sequels or remakes? A lot more than new, original concepts, that’s for sure. When you look around in a few years and find that everything is stale, boring, and overdone, know that you have no one to blame for that but yourself.
Ideas need support. Ideas need to be shared and fostered and encouraged. Otherwise, they die off into nothing.
Reblog more than just fanart, please.
You know, it’s not even just artist that have thousands of followers.
I have 5k+ followers as of a couple months ago. My original works hardly get any notice, and a lot of the time my fanart doesn’t get noticed. People are ridiculous when it comes to reblogging people’s art. They’re ashamed of it for some reason. Like, I’ll have art that has 100 notes. two of them are reblogs, and they were MY OWN REBLOGS. TO MY OTHER TWO ART BLOGS.
People need to fucking reblog art. REBLOG THE ART PLEASE. SUPPORT ARTIST’S ORIGINAL CONTENT! PLEASE!
The problem with this whole situation is that: 1. I bet that the most of the users of tumblr are - KIDS. from 10 to 15 years old. And kids doesn’t care if you put a heart’n’soul in your work. They look up to those who are already popular and seen on TV or YouTube. So, most of the kids won’t care. (teenagers and adults are a bit different, but even they don’t care everytime. Cuz of teenage angst and adult problems.) 2. Those who watch you and like your original art are awesome. BUT even if they are going to reblog EVERYTHING you post - they probably have not as many subscribers as you are, and their auditory is pretty much stable. So, people who will see their re-blogs - are the same people, and the probability of them re-blogging from their friends are going down, because of different interests. (I’m being pessimistic here, but you know…) 3. And the biggest problem here - is the TAGS. Because when someone searchs for the fanart - they KNOW what to tape in, what to search. Tagging your art with “my art, my OC’s, whatever else is there a creative tag you made up” - won’t work. It won’t show up. And the hell if someone’s gonna search up the tag “my OC’s” or “original art”… I doubt it, really… That means, that even if your art is reblogged, half of the re-blogs wont give a profit you wish for. That is new followers, new re-blogs and popularity or whatever… Art without PROPER POPULAR and SEARCHEABLE TAGS - won’t be EVEN SEEN! But putting in your tags popular things if they’re not in the post - is bullshit, so you know… We don’t do that. Cuz lying is bad. I don’t really see a way to change things around. But that’s because I’m a pessimist. Hahaha… aaaahhhh. Oh, and also, this one thing… If you are a person who is a kid (or not), and you do care and reblog, and put the tags, and everything - thank you. Just a big human (artist) thank you. We do love you and appreciate. I do. Even if it seems like I am talking shit about everyone. I read all of the tags, you, nice people, put under my reblogged art. That makes me happier.
I feel that this is not just a tumblr-specific problem. I think it’s quite natural for people to seek out and share stuff relevant to their specific interests, and it applies not just to art, but to everything. If you want people to dig things they are not familiar with, you need to “sell” it, and that’s the cold reality of it :/ So, yeah, people who reblog art, and especially original art, are the best <3 because they don’t just consume, they are actually taking part in supporting the creators.
The last two posts are spot-on. Tumblr itself is a terrible platform for art sharing - please don’t make it your primary platform. I’ve always viewed it (and instagram and facebook) as a secondary source of recognition, with the primary source being something like DeviantArt or some other art-oriented site. Your audience here is going to get stagnant at some point, unless you’re producing something that aligns with people’s interests. That’s why it’s so important to join groups that showcase art from particular topics, and post your work to those groups. You’ll have a better chance of reaching people more likely to enjoy that type of work than you will blasting your artwork out from your own Tumblr or your own DeviantArt or your own website. And if you can get yourself your own website, do it, but realize that it will probably be secondary, too, if not tertiary. People can follow art sites and Tumblrs. They can’t or don’t typically follow an isolated website in the sea of the internet.
Posting your art is like throwing a stone into a pond. Someone might see it on the way, but then it gets swamped by everything else. Posting your art to groups and other communities that are specifically oriented toward that kind of work is like putting the stone on a little boat and letting it drift. You have a much better chance of being seen and recognized.
Like any other business, artists need to market themselves. Reblogging your own work on your own site in an effort to force additional reblogs isn’t effective marketing. You market by association and linking your work up to as many communities as you can. You also market by giving attention to other artists (those whose artwork is both similar and different) because they’ll come to recognize you and hopefully return the favor.
You can’t blame Tumblr for the way that Tumblr and the people on it operate. If you aren’t seeing the attention you want from this website, it’s your strategy that needs to change, not Tumblr’s. You can wish for thousands of people to change what they do, or you can ensure that positive change happens with the one person you can affect - yourself.

Not in the job description: protecting native wildlife from Pokemon Trainers carrying Rana virus.
It hasn’t come to the park yet, but it’s nearby. This might be the month it shows up in our frogs and turtles.
Please be careful and make sure you do not hurt non-Pokemon animals while trying to catch new ones!
Hey, not my usual art fare, but wanted to help spread the word! Pokemon Go is an AMAZING fun game, but don’t go off trail for the hunt. Help protect real wildlife by staying on the trails when you go out, even if you see a rare Pokemon out there. It’s not worth the damage to the environment!
As an avid trainer AND naturalist myself, just wanna spread the word! Careful where you step! Stay on trail!
