“We’re all animals…really.” She answered, crinkling her nose a bit but she smiled a bit at the hand. “I-I’m Ari…Ari Larkin.” She was quiet a moment, “How long have you been here?”
“That is true.. but I have never felt it that way before.” Leaning on the bars so she could see as much of the other woman as possible, Evolet smiled softly, happy for the company. “Two days. Do you know why you’re here. I must warn you now, it is not very good.”
“I don’t know,” he said honestly maybe it was the innocence she seemed to ooze the fact she believes her virginity was something special. Grabbing her around the middle, he set her on a nearby counter settling between her legs. Holding her there by her waist he watched her “Maybe you look so delicious.”
Squeaking in surprise when he lifted her onto the counter, her breath shallowed with her nerves, eyes locked on his face. She was sure she didn’t look that delicious, for she’d always considered herself no more appealing than wallpaper, but the way he looked at her kicked up butterflies in her stomach. “Will it hurt.” This time she meant the act that she knew was to take place that night. “I’m scared, Mister Jon.” Whispering the words, her hands on his arms, she felt like she could hardly breathe.
Jor always felt like he was missing something when he had these conversations with newcomers. His memory was a little fuzzy, but he didn’t think he’d ever been worried about saving himself for someone, he’d always been happy that someone was thinking of him and wanting to be close to him. But, if she was worried about it, and he had to try to make her feel better. He just didn’t know what. “I don’t know, it did for me. But I never worried about marriage in the first place, so it might just be me. Still, I bet there’s a master out there who really likes taking virginities. Maybe they’ll help you out.”
He nodded. She wouldn’t be picky about food after a few months. “Are you a human, Evolet?”
The idea of a master taking her just to take her virginity was horrifying, and instantly the small maid blotted it from her memory as if she’d never heard it at all. It was to happen, then it was to happen, and she wouldn’t fight if it meant her surviving, but it was the loss of something precious to her. Being brought to this place would be the loss of the two things most precious to her in her life. Her father, broken man though he was, and her virtue. Tremendous losses, and it was a wonder that she was not a mess of tears. It was not for not wanting to be, for she wanted nothing more than to scream and cry, but it would do no good and maybe even would draw masters to her. She wasn’t sure what was worse, the masters or the cell she was stuck in. Neither would be her first choice, but she had a feeling that choices were going to be rare things, let alone good ones.
Looking back over at his at his question, Evolet nodded her head slowly. “I am. I’m sure we are valued here if the Masters are all supernaturals. We’re basically cattle to them.”
“Thank goodness.” Marie leaned back on the bars with a sigh. It would have unthinkably rude to assume a Super was a human. Thankfully she wouldn’t have to deal with the embarrassment. “You’ll get back there. This isn’t permanent. It can’t be.” Their new life was too much to take in at once. Thinking of being in a cage was a little easier when she thought it was only temporary. “This too shall pass, and you and I will go get our happy endings, alright?”
“I would no want to be wrong in assuming either, so I appreciate your relief.” It forced a soft smile on her face that was more genuine than the last, though it saddened a little at the insistance of the other that they would escape. This place just dstruck her as inescapable. The sort of place where even an attempt could result in a death sentence. “I hope you are right, Miss Marie. Though I am not sure I had such a happy ending to begin with. Anything would be happier than being kept in a cave.”
He hardly believed her. If she wasn’t hurt why would she be so frightened of him? “No Lamb I won’t hurt you.” Not that day at least. Hurting had its place, but it was one to be worked up to and not thrust upon slaves who couldn’t handle it. Seeing the tiny thing curled in on herself had replaced the pent up aggression in his chest with the intense urge to soothe. “Let’s get you out of this cage and some food in your belly.” He held out his hand for her to take, waiting perfectly still so as not to frighten the poor thing more.
She was terrified of everything right now. Of the bars, of the guards, of this man and his sheer size. She’d been taken off the streets of England, only to wake up in this place, at first with no idea why she was there, and then a terrifying knowledge of exactly why. She had ever reason to be scared and distrustful. Eyeing him and his outstretched hand, she swallowed hard and finally came meekly forward. Eventually, when she reached him, Evolet kept as much distance between himself and herself as she could, while still laying a small hand in his much larger one as she dipped into a small, but well practised curtsy. “Evolet, Sir.”

Jon watched her for a bit stepping forward he pulled her flush to his body. “Look around do i look like i need someone to be useful right now” he asked pulling the dress off her shoulder slow.
Gasping as he pulled her into him, Evolet’s lips were in a tight line, eyes still wide as he slid her dress down off her shoulders, swallowing hard. “Please. Mister Jon... I’m scared.” Bottom lip trembling, she turned her face away, eyes closed so he wouldn’t see them misting over. “Why me?”
Taking off his jacket he tossed in on a chair. “Do i look like I give a danm” he said turning to face her for a bit as he crossed his arms watching her. “Fine but then I’m sure the next one won’t be is kind or gentle is i might be with you” He said leaning on a chair. he was laying of coursehedhold her down if he had to though hed rather not. “Tell me how kind do you think any of here are we are masters”
“No.” And it was an honest answer. She didn’t think he cared, but she could see kindness, lying far beneath the surface of his complete air of intimidation, and couldn’t help but hope it would show itself more strongly. “I-... I don’t expect kindness, but can only hope for it, Mister Jon.” Swallowing hard, her finger fidgeted with the ankle length skirt she wore, rolling the side seam between her fingers. A nervous habit. “I-.. I am good for other.. other things as well. I-... I was one of the top domestic servants to a brance of the royal family in London. I-... I can be useful and keep my virtue?”
Jor squeezed her hand. “It’s okay, after the first time it gets better.” He was lying. It was never that bad for him, but it never got any easier, just less awkward. And he didn’t like it when they got rough. “You won’t be a virgin much longer, don’t worry.”
He bit his lip, quickly changing the subject in hopes that she wouldn’t be frightened anymore. “Are you hungry? You were probably asleep for dinner, but if you ask nicely, the guards might bring you a snack.”
“Gets better? How can it get better when I will be forced to do such thing with people I do not love? That are not my husband.” She’d been saving herself for marriage her entire life, and now that was all to be thrown away by people who had little morals. How could someone be good and kind and yet alright with having others in cages? With slavery?
Glancing back to him as he changed the subject, she shook her head, though really she was rather peckish, she didn’t want to call any guard. Didn’t want to speak to anyone outside of the bars unless they could free her. “I’m alright. I do not eat much usually any way. I do not think I would trust the food here, anyway. I did not cook it myself.”
Slightly smug, Conn left his drink behind and strolled to the center of town. Someone had reacted to him, and he was looking for souls to eat. He took his time, watching each and every slave’s face as he passed, but focused on his prey as soon as she came into sight. Evolet.
“Hello, Evolet. Did you hear me?”
When she saw him, something instinctual inside of her recoiled in fear that made her feel sick to her stomach, and she shrunk away from the bars as he came closer, eyes wide and locked firmly on him. His speaking of her name pulled a sharp gasp past her lips, and she only nodded her head, instead of speaking. Was it he who had been making the sound she’d heard? What was it? Was she in trouble? “Who...” Voice shaking, she cleared her throat, but it didn’t help. “Who are you, Sir?”
“Do not thank me yet” He said walking into his spacious home. “I haven’t had a virgin in years” He said watching her as he moved ahead of her.
Her eyes moved around his home, taking in it all as she followed behind him, keeping close for she didn’t want to get lost, and she didn’t want him to think she was going to run. She’d never run, for that in and of itself sounded like a death sentence when she’d be inevitably caught. His words, though, stopped her in her tracks, pulling a squeaking sort of noise from her throat. “I-... But I-... I don’t love you.” Sex and love had always been mutually exclusive in her eyes, and it was devastating to think that her first time would be so meaningless. “We are not married..”
His eye was caught by the quick scurrying as he walked past a cage he thought was empty. “Hey, hey, hey.” Keeping his voice quiet he motioned for the cage door to be open. Nothing the tiny human could do would hurt him, and hopefully the clear sightline will calm her down. Once the door was open he sat in the doorway to her cage. Her flinch didn’t go unnoticed. That reaction at what, his voice, wasn’t expected. Aggression melted into concern in an instant. “I’m not here to hurt you, little girl. Come here.” He patted a spot on his right. “All I’m going to do is make sure you’re not hurt.”
The turning of the lock of her cage had her pressing herself into the darkened corner, eyes wide and scared, locked on him as she watched him with a wary gaze, much like the terrified animal she felt like. Following his movements as he sat down, Evolet glanced around her, as if maybe it was joke, and then back at him, shrinking into herself as he spoke. It was hard to believe that he wasn’t there to hurt her, he was large and ever so intimidating. “I’m not hurt...” Whispering from the corner, she shook her head, sliding along the wall so she was at least in the light, directly across from him but still pressed into the wall. “You will not hurt me?”
“It’s just a cage, Evolet. Nothing is going to hurt you while you’re in here.” It was when they left the safety of the cages that hurtful things happened. “If you’re cold, you can always ask for a blanket. Most of the Masters don’t like it when their slaves die of exposure, so I’m sure you could get one.”
He breathed in a sigh of relief, thankful she wasn’t hurt. He already felt helpless enough, and it would have made him feel even worse if she needed real help and couldn’t get it. “He was just a guard, he was escorting me back from work. We’re, um,” he struggled to find a word that wouldn’t scare her even more. “kept as helpers or to sleep with others, and we get fed three meals a day. We just don’t have a lot of choice.”
“A cage....” The word terrified her, and she shook her head as if trying to deny it. Eyes lifting back to him as he spoke to her about what they were doing there, and she only gaped at him, trying to believe what she had heard. “To-.. to-to-.. to sleep with? As in.. as in.. sleep with?” She couldn’t even bring herself to say the other word, to clarify it further than that, because the idea of it was utterly terrifying. “I’m a virgin! I don’t sleep with anyone!”
Conn drank his ale and eyed the crowd in the bar. Nothing special, but he was overdue to have another soul soon, so what did it matter? He gave a rumbling sigh, infusing the noise with his siren power.
What was it? That noise? It was one of the first things to bring her even close to the front bars of her cell, perpetually chilled fingers wrapping around the far colder bars so she could try and peer down the hallway to see where it was coming from. Was it a song? It wasn’t even really a noise. Was she actually hearing it? All she knew, was that she couldn’t turn away, wanting so desperately to see where it had come from.
It was time for a vacation. The years were starting to fade together in uneventful lumps which was the quickest way to aggravate the fae. It was the relief of tension he was looking for as he prowled down the row of cages. One by one he stopped in front of the cages to examine the slaves looking to find a quick release. “I don’t remember there being such a lackluster selection here. What a shame.” He clicked his tongue, speaking to no one in particular.
He was one of the largest men she’d ever seen, and the tiny pixie of a human had moved as far from the bars the very moment she had the chance. Back against the far wall, and pale arms hugging herself around the middle, she refused to make eye contact. Not wanting to be noticed, but almost not wanting to be rude. It was rude to look directly at a better and it lead to one getting into trouble. Though, it seemed that no matter how hard she tried to avoid it, trouble always found her. When he spoke, she flinched a little bit, trying to edge into the shadowed corner of her cell.
Ari blinked, grey eyes watching those passing by. She enjoyed people watching, since that was the only thing she could do in this shitty cell anyway.
Then she heard them, her head cocked a bit and she scooted a bit closer to the bars that put her on display. “Hey…” She tried calling out but was unsure if they could hear her. “You okay?”
Looking over towards where a voice came from not that far down the rows of cells, Evolet took the chance and moved closer to the bars so she could see. “Hello? I-.. I’m alright. I hate this place, though. I feel like an animal.” Voice sick with a softly spoken, but posh, English accent, the small woman stuck a delicate hand through the bars and gave a wave.
“I’m Evolet. I-... I’m down here.”
“Hey, hey.” Tears were something she was all too familiar with. “You will. You’re going to go back to London and your father. Alright?” She squeezed her hand. Everyone got out in those news stories. Someone always finds them or they escape. Looking around it was hard to believe there was any way to get out of the cages but there had to be. “I’m from Oregon. I worked at a little diner in a small town with a bunch of other humans … like us?” Glancing back at the girl she hoped she wasn’t reading the situation wrong.
“Yes. Yes, I’m Human.” Nodding her head as she confirmed, Charlie tried to take solace from the confidence in the woman’s words, but she had a horribly heavy pit in her stomach that told her otherwise. That whispered in her anxiety ridden ear that she would never leave this place. This cage. “I’m from London. I was a domestic servant...” Unable to help herself, she gave a little scoffs. “Seems I have been severely demoted.”
