season 5 has a very special place in my heart

i got to see les mis again on stage yesterday, and when i tell you i am still buzzing from it. they’ve added so many small bits to it that give it a little more depth and character.

a quick list of my favourites:

petit gervais tossing his coin in the air and valjean snatching it away

the whole ensemble becoming a part of valjean being refused work

the extremely sinister nature of the foreman and ‘lovely ladies’ as a whole

marius being so lovesick that eponine keeps having to push him behind the pillars so he’s not caught by valjean

grantaire trying to stop gavroche from joining as they rally around enjolras in red and black, and then giving him a little shake to try to wake him up right before the final fight at the barricades

grantaire trying to tend to marius at the barricades, enjolras running over to help and pressing his hand over grantaire’s on marius’ body, and then them embracing over the top of him

having one of the little girls deliver the line ‘who will wake them?’ in ‘turning’

the bishop hugging valjean when he comes back on for the reprise

all of the actors were incredible. their voices were so powerful and beautiful. it’s definitely the best i have seen yet.
