The Best in the West... Artisan Roast is my new favourite way to spend a Saturday morning. Whilst my daughter is attending ballet, street dance and drama classes, I get a couple of hours to myself. Pretty much the only time all week! The music in this little establishment is always chilled out, and coming in first thing in the morning, I aways get a great seat at a high wooden table with an old school style bench attached. The waft of fresh coffee that is roasted in Edinburgh and sent over to the cafe every few days, emanates from the machines, and the ‘dippers’ - is that right? The baker sends in fresh home baking evry day, and today the aroma of dark chocolate, cinnamon and a hint of lemon is making its way through the vintage style cafe. There is a large blackboard displaying the menu, all chalked up to show what are the novelties of the day; including spinach and feta brioche which is a personal favourite of mine. I have been here for a couple of hours now, and a number of trendy people from all walks of life have wandered in and out. Sampling the various coffees and pastries, and discussing all manner of interesting things. ( yes i did eaves drop on a really interesting conversation about a trip to bali). I get the feeling that it is very much an environmentally friendly cafe, the napkins are recycled, as are the coffee bags on display to take home with all manner of fresh and ground beans. Just yum. Outside, there are a number of vintage style bicycles stacked up and colourful, and the bustle of the westend is starting to come to life. (11am). Its pet friendly in here, and in the two hours I've been here, not one person has been similar to the next. A local lady wandered in around 10am with a bucket of fresh flowers , and set up some lovely arrangements, and the scent of them creeps in through the gorgeous foodie aromas when there is a little breeze. Of course , they are all in mismatched vases and mason jars, just what you would expect in funky little vintage hideaway like this. Unique is definitely the word, and yummy. If you want your soul to sing whilst you are having a continental breakfast, this is the place to be <3
