Martha Graham Dance Company !!!!!
January 17 & 18 2013 | KNIGHT THEATER AT LEVINE CENTER FOR THE ARTS
The UNC Charlotte College of Arts + Architecture presents the Martha Graham Dance Company in its first Charlotte performance in more than 30 years. One of the most revered dance troupes in the world, the company is a vessel for the ground-breaking 20th-century choreography of Modern Dance pioneer Martha Graham. The program includes "Panorama" (1935), which will be performed by 33 local student and professional dancers. UNCC Assistant Professor and former Graham dancer Kim Jones will prepare the cast for their January performance with the Martha Graham Company.

This years' event will feature Echo CDC, Martha Connerton/Kinetic Works Dance Company, Baran Dance, The Mark, choreographer Sarah Emery, cellist Tanja Bechtler, poet Larry Sorkin, and guitarist Todd Langdon. $25 with wine tasting (must have valid I.D. at entrance) $15 without wine tasting Tickets purchased online will be waiting for you at the entrance. $5 off advanced tickets! We have brought on new teachers this year and would love to tell you a little about them. We are very proud of the quality of our staff that are educating your dancers. Thanks, Brittany
Miss Nicolette grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where she began her dance training at the age of 2 at a local studio. Growing up she was introduced to dance styles such as ballet, tap ,jazz, lyrical, modern, hip-hop, clogging, pom cheer, and Latin. She then continued her dance training at The University of North Carolina, where she performed in several under graduate student and faculty concerts. Miss Nicolette is a graduate of The University of North Carolina where she received her B.A in Dance. Now settling in Charlotte for the next couple of years Miss Nicolette has decide to focus all her time and energy on dance. This past season she was named captain of The Charlotte Hounds and Carolina Forces dance teams here in Charlotte, North Carolina. She has a love for choreographing and teaching dance and loves to pass on her knowledge and passion to young dancers.
Ashley Reid: Ashley danced most of life starting here in Charlotte, NC. Since she was two, she have taken courses in Jazz, Modern, Ballet, Tap, Hip Hop, and African both competitively and recreationally. She graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in August 2011. During her time at CMU, she participated and choreographed for Dancers’ Symposium, CMU's dance performance group; IFS, a competitive dance crew in Pittsburgh; and performed for events and competitions around the city. She has taught dance since she was 17 years old and her students have ranged from 2 year olds to adults. She loves teaching and in January She will be beginning graduate school at UNCC so she will be continuing her academic and artistic passions into 2013!
Jennifer Buskey is originally from Livonia, Michigan, where she started dancing at the age of 2. She has studied ballet, pointe and jazz. Jennifer was a teacher assistant for the Dance Express Company for 4 years. Jennifer has a teaching degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Michigan University and is currently a substitute teacher for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. Jennifer hopes to instill her passion for dance within all her students!
Britney Travis grew up in dance and gymnastics, followed by cheerleading in middle and high school. She has worked in the dance department at the YMCA for the past three years. Britney is a full-time youth director and has a true passion for teaching little ones!
Brittany Bolden has studied tap, jazz, ballet, pointe, modern, lyrical and acrobatics for twenty years. She has had the privilege of dancing with many greats of our time. She studied under tap legend Henry LeTang and Linda Lupo for several years, performing in a professional tap company across Florida as well as NY. She had the honor to dance in shows with Audrey Hepburn and Liza Minnelli. Brittany owned and managed her own dance studio for twelve years in Chapel Hill, NC teaching tap, jazz, ballet, pointe, lyrical, and acrobatics to all ages. She then began her own dance competition and convention, The Dancer’s Spotlight, for eight years, traveling all over the south east part of the United States offering classes with world renown choreographers. Her choreography can be seen in artist Sam Fisher’s first music video, “People Living”. She has judged various competitions across the southeast in addition to teaching children at local studios in Charlotte, NC. She now is the Performing Arts Director of the Simmons, Siskey and Johnston YMCA.
