It’s my birthday on wednesday (the 17th)!!
If any genuinely financially comfortable adults feel like brightening the birthday week of a poor & chronically ill woman… just know I have a food and necessities wishlist and a wishlist of not-strictly-necessary fripperies (mostly household items like command hooks and kitchen shears).
Please don’t send anything unless you’re a financially comfortable adult, I’d feel really bad about it if you do. I’m just throwing this out there on the off chance somebody more fortunate feels like indulging me. :)
“the gay community was never racist”
shit y’all still are to this day
I’m glad my post got around.. ppl need to see some history
In 1984, both African American and Asian American groups fought discriminatory door policies at bars across the city. Henry Chappell reported a double-carding incident at theWatering Hole on Folsom. Wearing a dress, heels, and a shawl, Chappell, an African-American self-identified transvestite, was asked for two forms of picture IDs as a means of excluding him from attendance. BWMT hoped that San Francisco would adopt a regulatory model for admittance based on Atlanta’s carding ordinance, which mandated that no bar could demand more than one valid ID per person.3 In part due to pressure from such actions, the City eventually passed a similar ordinance.
Around the same time, the Asian Lesbian and Gay Alliance (ALGA) conducted an informal study of various S.F. gay bars. One of the organizers later recalled, “White guys could sail through with no restrictions, but once color was added to the mix, the barriers went up.” The Midnight Sun and Castro Station were Castro bars particularly notable for their anti-Asian discriminatory practices. When confronted, the owners rationalized their multiple ID policies by claiming that it was difficult to visually discern Asian men’s age.ALGA picketed the Midnight Sun, attracting media coverage with placards such as“Discrimination in the Gay Community Demeans Us All.” During a KPFA radio debate, one participant recalled a bar owner claiming, “Your people don’t drink,” and “It’s a cruise bar; we would lose other clientele because they don’t want to cruise your type.”

learning that one of the biggest factors about whether or not people develop ptsd (or other severe mental health issues) after trauma isn’t necessarily the severity of what happened but the ways in which we received or didn’t receive support, compassion, and understanding in our communities and in our personal relationships following the trauma.. life changing

From the abstract:
“Retrospective and prospective studies consistently show that individuals exposed to human-generated traumatic events carry a higher risk of developing Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) than those exposed to other kinds of events. These studies also consistently identify perceptions of social support both before and after a traumatic event as an important factor in the determining vulnerability to the development of PTSD.”
Amazon workers in Alabama are attempting to unionize
tweet
Amazon is texting workers multiple times a day.
Amazon has anti-union posters in the bathrooms.
Amazon managers are using temp workers to advertise “Vote No” on unionizing, knowing they’re leveraging economic power and vulnerability.
Amazon and the city traffic management colluded to change the traffic signals so that drivers have no time to stop and talk to union organizers.
Workers begin voting Monday (2/8/21) on whether or not to unionize. This would be the first union in Amazon.
This comes days after it was revealed Amazon was stealing drivers’ tips.
Nzambi Matee hurls a brick hard against a school footpath constructed from bricks made of recycled plastic that her factory turns out in the Kenyan capital.
FTA: “Our product is almost five to seven times stronger than concrete,” said Matee, the founder of Nairobi-based Gjenge Makers, which transforms plastic waste into durable building materials.
“There is that waste they cannot process anymore; they cannot recycle. That is what we get,” Matee said, strolling past sacks of plastic waste.
Matee gets the waste from packaging factories for free, although she pays for the plastic she gets from other recyclers.
Her factory produces 1,500 bricks each day, made from a mix of different kinds of plastic.
These are high density polyethylene, used in milk and shampoo bottles; low density polyethylene, often used for bags for cerals or sandwiches; and polypropylene, used for ropes, flip-top lids and buckets.
But she does not work with polyethylene terephthalate or PET, commonly used for plastic bottles.
The plastic waste is mixed with sand, heated and then compressed into bricks, which are sold at varying prices, depending on thickness and colour. Their common grey bricks cost 850 Kenyan shillings ($7.70) per square metre, for example.
Matee, a materials engineer who designed her own machines, said her factory has recycled 20 tonnes of waste plastic since its founding in 2017.

I've been trying to put this off as long as possible as I know things are rough for everyone right now, but we have enough food in the apartment for about 2 more days, no soap, and no TP 😬

I'm also back on MV, and I'm in the process of reopening my stores on other clip sites. DM for links ~ I'll give you %25 off my MV store.
If we got around $150 in donations we would be able to make that go another month or so with a tight squeeze. At least the dogs have food and they're cheap to feed, so I'm not worried about them right now.
If you don't know what happened, Roy was laid off due to covid, and I left my job after learning that multiple people in management are Tr*mp supporters, and/or active members of a particular white supremacy organization, so. Good riddance to bad rubbish, but now I'm broke. It was a very toxic work environment before learning those things anyway, and although I received the least amount of abuse out of my coworkers, it still wasnt great to experience or witness.
Roy and I are both approved for unemployment, but neither of us are receiving payments, and getting on the phone with someone is literally impossible right now. My therapist is also technically my case worker + is doing what she can to help with that stuff, so we dont really need help or advice there, I just thought I should let y'all know that's a thing right now. We were approved for some housing assistance as well, so we aren't as behind as we previously were, but we still aren't caught up, either.
And, obviously, we are both actively looking for new jobs atm.
I feel weird asking for help when my current situation is so much better than it has been (we have an apartment, internet, running water, electricity, therapy + healthcare, a working vehicle, etc), but we still dont have food and we kinda need that lol 😂
Thanks for reading, here's my dogs, Pilot (white) + Gunner (brown) ❤. Pilot isnt playing in that picture, he just likes to lay on his back a lot lol.
Also, someone is trying to commission a video from me that will def require me to do laundry very soon, so even if one person just sends $10, I'll be able to make some money 👌
