Since I’ve seen your face,
So much has changed since you left me,
Everything is different now.
That people only change themselves,
If they experience something that opens their eyes to a new facet of the world,
Or if they experience something that destroys them completely.
And I’m not ashamed to say,
That it was because you destroyed me.
You whispered sweet promises and words of love in my ears,
And then you took it all away in an instant,
And gave it to someone else.
It was the greatest struggle I’ve ever faced,
Every fractured shard of who I was,
Because once something is broken,
It’s never really the same again.
But that doesn’t mean it can’t be remade,
Into something greater than before,
More beautiful than before.
I’m better today than I was before,
Not because you destroyed me,
But because I gathered up those shards of myself,
And put them back together again.
It’s the act of healing that makes us better,
The learning of new lessons from fresh pains,
So I’m glad you broke me.
I was only made all the better for it.
