So what is the books that come out with the rereleased Felicity and Samantha?

Are they ultra condensed Welcome to Blank’s World books?

Why tho.

Samantha is The most popular, so I could see them saying eh, her books been out for an eternity, why not do the discontinued line.

But Felicity is also popular but has the problematic, but period appropriate aspects of her family….owning slaves that they may just not want to address/ seem to be condoning by doing her book. So I don’t know.

I do appreciate the way they address it in the making of book, they don’t shy away but the do acknowledge that yes. Felicitys family did do that and wanted independence from Britain, but not for Everyone and that is wrong. Which they also did for the hula plot line for Molly.

But Idk why they wouldn’t do Samantha’s.

Tho I think the 40th anniversary would be a GREAT opportunity to rerelease/release the Welcome To Blanks World for the characters who have them and those who don’t.

I don’t have Kaya’s, and I WANT to be welcomed to Rebecca and Julie’s worlds! (And Claudie and Isabelle and Nikki… but I am in Nikki and Isabelle’s world Y I K E S. But was Julie a Wings fan too?)

Tbh. If I was Nan I’d be so peeved, my sister has a name like Felicity, so pretty! Literally joyful! And I’m…Nan.

Also ya girl secured a pre order of the Polly Pocket collab before they sold out!

I figured I’m not buying a whole new doll, or the nap dress thing, it’s not too unreasonable to get the thing that combines my two great childhood loves.

They’re so cute!

We entertained over the weekend, so I made Melody’s motor fizzy cocktail (and did not say the origin was an American Girl cookbook)

The recipe makes one, but I tripled it.

It’s good, but your feelings about gin do matter, it’s a strong flavor. (I’m hit or miss with gin cocktails. Obv I prefer where it’s masked by other cocktail ingredients!) fortunately, you do have cherry flavor and fizz!

I did not include the recipe, because on the odds the publisher finds some nobody’s tumblr and I get in trouble are low but not zero, but I did include the opening blurb! All the recipes are like this, who is it themed by and how it relates to them and their story.

This recipe, like most of them, is pretty simple. It’s also a cocktail, which is not something that should be super difficult. It called for gin, simple syrup, cherry juice, lemon juice, egg white, club soda, and cherries!

I did make a substitution, even though I don’t like to do that when I make something for the first time. But luxardo cherries for Michigan cherries is a reasonable swap. I also used some of the syrup in the jar in place of some of the simple syrup for more cherry flavor. No regrets there.

It went over well, it was a very refreshing drink! It had cherry and it has fizz. What’s not to love?

The opposite page, not included, had a photo of a Melody doll, with a brief description of who she is and what makes her special, as do all the recipes about their character inspiration.

So far, I have made this and Corrine’s crunch time cucumber salad (twice!) and plan to make more. My only real beef with this cookbook is one I have for all cookbooks: why no actual photos of the food? I love an illustration, but it’s nice knowing your recipe turned out at least looking like it’s supposed to. But it’s not a major quibble. We all know we bought this for the AG connection.

On a FaceBook comment under a post about Kaya's creation, Nez Perce Language teacher Harry Hayes Slickpoo, Jr. claimed that he is on the advisory board for "updating" Kaya.

I doubt American Girl would go through all the trouble of updating Kaya's books if they were not planning more re-releases to go with her, or getting a new advisory board just for a few outfits. Thus, my assumption is that she's getting a full story AND collection revamp. With his use of the word "currently," I would expect a full collection re-release for Kaya and potentially the other historical characters by 2027 or 2028.

Considering he is also a Nimipuutímt expert, I also wonder if AG will release Nimipuutímt translations of her books.

Me, back from the dead again

I got that new official American Girl cookbook the other day!

Not…quite what I was hoping/expecting but it looks good. There’s a few recipes I want to try.

(I was after more…historical inspired recipes, I suppose. Not unlike A Peek into the Pantry, if anyone remembers that blog. I am also a fan of Tasting History, after all.)

But it’s fun! I believe almost every doll has at least one food or cocktail recipe, plus Coconut. (With options to make a mocktail for those underage or just not into alcohol!) So historicals, GOTY up to 2025, including Corrine and her sister Gwynn getting a recipe each, and Tenney and Z.

The historical girlies have a recipe, and the last chapter is historical character inspired cocktails.

Some highlights for me that I’d like to try are McKennas espresso martini, Kaya’s salmon spears, the Blaireberry muffins, Corrine’s cucumber salad, Nikki and Isabelle’s Y2K m/cocktail, and I think it’s Josefina’s goat cheese pastries.

Also? First recipe is Kirsten’s braided cinnamon buns, joining Princess Leia in the hairstyle to recipe hall of fame, which tickles me. (Although making them cardamom buns would be more Swedish inspired!)
