I've been lucky enough to get some paid work that I can't share yet so I haven't posted art in a while but I had to do something for the American Girl 40th anniversary. I have been reading these books since I was six years old and these girls have a huge place in my heart. All 20 historic girls in one place!

Has anyone ever completely restyled Courtney's hair? I thrifted mine and her hair was a MESS. Right now I have it really brushed out for that "big hair" look, but I'm wondering if I should try restyling it. I could always try and make it how it should look, but I honestly have no clue where my doll hair curling stuff is... If anyone has some tips to make her hair look accurate and from the 80's please let me know!

My Courtney came to me secondhand and her hair was not well kept, so I just separated out each individual curl, sprayed it with water, brushed through it to detangle, and then twisted it in the direction of the natural curl. I did that through the rest of the hair, let it dry, and then once dry I used my fingers to separate each ringlet into smaller curls. That gives it the big poufy 80's look without looking tangled.

So, look who came today!

I finally got my Salam Sisters Yasmina after ordering her about early March. They said they were gonna start shipping them out about April 25th, but they must have started early. I took pictures of the box.

And here she is out of the box. She looks so pretty in person, the eyes themselves look really detailed, pictures don't do it justice.

How she looks without her hijab. Btw, her hair has a nice soft feel to it. It's not like American Girl hair, but it almost reminds me of Rainbow High hair texture.

And her with her other headscarf included with her. Honestly, I wasn't sure how the yellow scarf would look with her outfit, but truthfully I ended up liking it better than the pink one. It looks more stylish tbh. I also discovered her body is different than many 18-inch dolls, I was expecting a soft body or maybe a half soft/half hard like My Life As or Healthy Roots Dolls, but she actually has a full plastic body. Her dimensions seem similar to AG and other standard 18 inch dolls, though I have yet to try other shoes on her (though her legs and feet don't seem small like Healthy Roots Dolls). I would definitely recommend this doll, and I hope to get a couple of the other Salam Sisters as well. Such a sweet pretty girl.

Cecile's and Marie-Grace's cookbook

I was inspired by the Caroline cookbook @desertdollranch came up with to make some of my own for the other historical characters who never got cookbooks. All the images on the front are from their paper dolls. I had to change the cover layout slightly so they could both be featured.

I've followed the format of the original cookbooks. All these dishes are ones that are actually mentioned in Cecile and Marie-Grace's books and I've linked recipes from as close to their period as I can find (with the exception of the tomato-shrimp bisque). Most link to some of the earliest published Louisiana cookbooks from 1885 which compiled recipes from even earlier.
