you have to be careful reading too many things that are good/smart/well-written bc then you encounter something that isnt and you get confused like ? why didnt they just make this good ? were they stupid

what I mean: "sexual intercourse" is as much a social construct as "romantic courtship," and you discover this very quickly as a queer person if you try to talk to able bodied straight cis people who literally think the only thing that counts as Actual Sex is penis-in-vagina penetration, like they call oral "foreplay" it's so dire. various people have a lot of vested interest in cleanly defining "sex" vs "not sex" for a whole slew of reasons (ex. censorship dodging and enforcing, conferring the social clout of virginity and prowess, finding and closing loopholes about premarital sex, deciding what relationships "count" as serious partnerships, ligating what is general assault vs sexual assault vs Something That's Definitely Probably Fine And Not Sexual At All, Actually, etc.), and it's really not something you can just fall back on as obvious common sense that people are dumb for questioning.

—calls me big dog (and him little dog) even though he is about as tall as two of me

— “I can’t believe she would say that transphobic thing to you. In June? Pride month?”

Once I said "My gender is whatever's funniest at the time" and my coworker stops dead in his tracks, turns slowly and says "So are your pronouns honk/honk?" killing me instantly

I was talking to a friend I knew before I transitioned about my new relationship (my first one ever!) and I said "Yeah, I think I only indentified as aro/ace most of my life because I didn't have lesbian as an option" and he looked me dead in the eye and said "Oh? Why not? ...Ohhh"

Then he said "You know, I completely forgot you weren't always this way. Femininity really suits you" and let me tell you I started tearing up

Of course, not ten minutes later I mentioned that I had to relearn how to sing and he said "oh no, what happened?" so he might just be a little slow

Update on that friend: a bunch of people sent me "he's a little confused, but he's got the spirit" gifs in response to that story. I can tell you now with certainty that she definitely has the spirit, and she's not confused anymore

For many queer people, especially those who grew up feeling misunderstood or unseen, romantic partners become far more than romantic partners. 

They become witnesses to our lives. 

They become the first person we call when something wonderful happens and the first person we call when everything falls apart. 

They become part of the architecture holding our world together.

The loss is not limited to romance; sometimes you lose a best friend, a confidant, a community connection, or a member of your chosen family all at once.

So where does the heteronormativity influence come in? There’s a myriad of learned behaviours we’ve mirrored earlier on   be it from our parents, friends, or previous relationships.

crazy to be touched when you're touch starved. in hindsight it's no wonder i fell madly for a guy because he'd hold me or my hand or stroke my cheek. literally had never happened to me before like that. thinking about it as a friend rested his hand on my shoulder today while looking at something i had been looking up on my phone and he was stooping down to see it as well as he was walking past the chair i was sitting on. i think i need more gay men casually touching me to become less crazy. working on it though
