He accepted her kiss but he didn’t return any kind of affection. He knew he needed to tread carefully with the situation because he didn’t want to hurt Elise but he knew if she was aware of the situation at all, it wouldn’t go by well. “I can’t leave you hanging on your birthday, can I?” He asked her and slid her shot glass over to her. “I’ll even buy you shots tonight.”

“No I don’t suppose you can’t.” She smiled softly, crossing her legs as she sat. “I’ve missed you, I haven’t seen you in a bit.” She told him innocently, pushing her hair over her shoulder, “Really?” Ellie picked up the glass, smelling it for a moment before tossing it back. “Well I feel special now. You came out to meet me and you’re buying me shots? How ever will I reply you?”

As Beckett straightened his blue button-down shirt, he tried to reason with himself as to why exactly he was taking Ellie out for her birthday. Did he feel guilty and as though he owed her his time or was he really so tempted by her that he had to give in each time she asked to see him? He wasn’t entirely sure what his deal was, but he knew that either way he was meeting her at the sushi restaurant he had sent directions to. He arrived right at seven and was seated at the sushi bar. He didn’t want to get a private table because that felt too.. Date like? After ordering two shots of saki for the pair of them, he sat in wait until she arrived. “Hey you.” He greeted her with a small smile. “Happy birthday.”

Ellie walked in a few minutes late as per Ellie style, She wasn’t sure exactly what she wanted from Beckett, but the fact that he’d been denying her wasn’t sitting well with her. That wasn’t the way that this was supposed to go. As she walked into the sushi place she could hear her heels clicking against the floor despite the noise. When she spotted him she walked over, kissing his cheek without a second thought, “Hey yourself, thanks for taking me out.”
