What if verbal abuse left the same scars as physical abuse? Would it be taken more seriously? That’s what photographer Richard Johnson hopes to accomplish with his new photo project, “Weapons of Choice.”
The series uses a makeup artist to put bruises and scars on photo subjects. Embedded in these violent marks are some hateful words typically associated with abuse, such as “Stupid,” “Dumb,” “Trash” and others that are much, much worse.
Rest in peace, Maya Angelou. You were a true inspiration to us.

I don’t mean to impose a personal favour on you guys, but I really would like to ask that everyone who follows me reblog this.
I don’t think I made it very clear but last month I was sexually assaulted by someone who I thought was my friend (I don’t want to talk about it don’t ask), and it’s… really fucked with my head.
Had I known this a month ago I would have been able to get away.
So, essentially, I’m really pleading with you to reblog this so everyone who follows you doesn’t get stuck in the same position I was with no way out.
I mean again I don’t want the point of this to be my sob story or whatever but if you could reblog this it would seriously mean a lot
and im asking to all of my followers who see this post in your dashboard to please press play to this video, you never know when this is gonna be useful, PLEASE DON’T IGNORE IT.
This is one of the first moves I was taught in Krav Maga, and it is one of the most effective.
It took me about a half hour to get down with practice, but once you get it, it’s an intuitive movement.
Please pass this along, it will save lives.
Important
Please reblog this.

From Heavily Decorated Classrooms Disrupt Attention and Learning In Young Children
http://www.psychologicalscience.org/index.php/news/releases/heavily-decorated-classrooms-disrupt-attention-and-learning-in-young-children.html#.U4q85HSLV0Q.facebook
What do teachers think? Are classrooms over-decorated?
I feel like there is a balance between over decorated and cluttered and highly decorated, but useful and welcoming.
In college I did some observations with a teacher who had a overly decorated room. But it wasn't just decoration. There was simply too much in there. It made it hard even for an adult to concentrate. A teacher from the same grade level also had a highly decorated room. Her room however, had an obvious flow and use, leaving it feeling coherent and not just like everything had been thrown together.
So to me, it really just depends on how you utilize your space. I don't think kids want to learn in a bland looking environment, though.
I’ve reblogged this before, but it’s a good reminder for me as I get ready for the next year!
Don’t educate your children to be rich. Educate them to be happy. So when they grow up, they will know the value of things, not the price.

why…WHY!! WHY!!!
What do you think about students losing interest in certain subjects? Sure, they'll do the work and treat you with respect but they just don't really, in lack of words 'care' about the subject you teach? How would you react about that?
I teach subjects most students don’t like. So I get this a lot.
I personally try to approach the subject, and students!, with patience and enthusiasm. I try to show why my subjects are sooooo interesting and cool, but not everyone can love every subject, and I try to respect that. I tell my students they gotta try to give it a go tho and approach everything with an open mind.
A lot of student don’t like a particular subject because they’re not performing well in it (ie get good grades). I try to build confidence in students so they can grasp the concepts better and then hopefully start to see the subject more positively, and then get better marks. But learning isn’t all about getting good grades. (You might even see grades as a neoliberal conspiracy but that’s a whole other problem). If I can get the student to at least appreciate the subject, then that’s way better than getting As and hating it or not valuing the topic as something enriching.
