a comic about kon, and finding yourself
i think its crazy how little the subtext of jay being a sexual abuse victim is really discussed and addressed in the fandom. like to me its such a centric theme of his character and his very pronounced hatred towards rapists and pedophiles in particular. like he beat the living shit out of CSAM producers. hes shown to respond to threats from older men by 'hitting' on them sometimes in a way that is not dissimilar to past grooming victims. he has a thing about kids and sex workers and protecting them with everything he got. hes consistently and CONSTANTLY treated akin to a rape victim with the way hes stigmatised as 'evil' and 'angry' and 'inpure' for his anger and counter actions. its just. so horribly clear especially in some of the earlier writing and I hate that its just another thing thats kinda forgotten in the later iterations of his story. in general we should include more about his trauma of being impovrished and everything that comes with that in a way that isnt disgustingly classist and meant to excuse the lack of benefit of a doubt he gets graced with everything he does.

omg they’re so stupid😭 I love them so much
Thank you, MAWS. No seriously. By tricking me for a whole year into thinking I'd actually get the animated Kon I've always wanted only to pull the rug out from under me at the last second... I've been inspired to go on a reading binge! Haven't read the Superboy 1994 run in years and I'm very much enjoying the nostalgia!
For those of you that love and miss our clone boy, here are some highlights to convince you to go back and read his series(or start it!):
Introduction of King Shark. For those of you that may not know or forgot, King Shark was originally a Superboy villain.
You guys love the Krypto from the Supergirl movie? Well he's pretty similar to the Krypto in this series. Gonna start keeping a count of how many times Superboy gets slammed to the ground by puppy love.
Geeky Superboy! He's so obsessed with TV shows, references 90210 and NYPD Blue among others quite often!
Also, Young Justice Superman has nothing on the version we get here. For those of you that may not know, the original version of Superboy wasn't even Clark's clone! (The whole half Superman half Lex thing was cooked up when they revamped his origin story.) But Clark still took the time to name him, teach him about Krypton, and even invited him to come live with the Kents. It's not the perfect fanfiction scenario I know a lot of us wanted for Kon, but I actually quite like how Superman interacts with Superboy in this series. Kon's independence is important to him, and I appreciate Clark recognizing that and offering guidance and support without being overbearing to Kon.
I have so much more I could share, but I think you should all do yourselves a favor and read and enjoy it for yourselves.
Hot take: I hate when people keep saying Clark and Lex are Kon's parents, it's all come up as some attempt to make this some super progressive funny queer moment, but it isn't people. Not just for the weird creepy implications that is Clark being forced to have a child, but also in all ways none of them are actual parents, biologically and by Kon's own standards.
"oh but he's 50/50 their DNA" child birth/development and genetics it's far more complicated than just being 50/50 two people, a child isn't the same as a clone for multiple reasons.
Now for Kon standards: Lex calls himself his dad purely to manipulate him, it's disgusting and creepy, why would Kon see him as his actual dad for this? As for superman, Clark never wanted a child when Kon existed, this should be enough but for some reason it's not. Kon didn't need a dad either because he had a bunch of father figures on the Cadmus Lab already, he made it clear he didn't see superman as a father, this isn't just the writers way to separate them, it's what works better for him as a character and his story, it just makes sense he would think that.
There's also this one idea that making them father and son makes them a family when they're already a family in their own way?

omg the ttk guy!!
You know he has a problem with? He has a problem with chasing this perfection that’s just genuinely unattainable and in a sense he sees Kal as all the good in the world and he essentially is always gonna have to chase that and in turn he’s actually making himself feel worse for being him! Like obviously he loves Kal/Clark right? Duh! But like there’s like a line between loving someone and idolizing them and then, putting them on this pedestal of greatness that you constantly feel you have to live up to so much to the point where disregard your worth in favor of that person. And it doesn’t have to be a drastic “oh I hate myself thing” no, self hatred like that, it’s more subtle where you think casually you don’t deserve certain things that are normally a given but with how y ou perceive yourself you think it’s a privilege you know? I feel like he thinks on a subconscious level that (despite the fact Clark has already told him he wants him around) in a way simply being is something he has to make up for. Like existing near that unachievable greatness is something he has to make up for or prove he’s worthy of. And I like that they wrote Kon like an actual person with self worth issues because even if you tell that person that you think they’re like one of the greatest people you’ve ever met they’ll still find a way to build this narrative in their mind where they think they have to try even harder than they were before for the privilege of being happy with you basically. And so it feeds into this endless loop of seeking perfection that just doesn’t exist and that’s quite literally his problem…one of them.
I understand that there was quite literally no other option but it’s how ready he was to blow his brains out and even making a joke about in his presumed last moments is actually insane to me. Like ever heard of this wonderful thing called therapy? I genuinely think someone should put him on some type of watch list jesus christ .
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to better but when you self deprecate a lot it tends to show in how you carry yourself and how willingly you are to get hurt and mind you he had NO powers at this point.
