Akihabara@DEEP was originally a cartoon that was supposed to air on Nickelodeon sometime in the late 2000s. The cartoon was based on a Japanese novel that was released in 2004 which focuses on a group of teenage social outcasts in Akihabara that want to create a new search engine for denizens of Akihabara to use, but catches the attention of Digital Capital, a corporation who wants to take the technology for themselves, making the group a target. The novel would become very popular in Japan and have a movie adaptation, manga series, and a television drama. In 2006, Nickelodeon and Polygon Pictures would announce the computer animated cartoon at the Tokyo Anime Fair and have Ippei Gyoubu design the characters for the series. Unfortunately, the series was canceled due to the series being too mature for the targeted demographic.
