Mission Hill Main Streets hosted their 2nd Annual Savors of Flavors event last month, Monday, November 19th, at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy & Health Services, an event that allowed local businesses and people of the MH community to come together, share their cuisines with drinks, live music, and casual conversation. It was an event that truly held the Main Streets program ideal of “everyone pitches in to make the community a better place to work, live and shop.” The top floor room was packed with public officials, religious leaders, merchants, volunteers, and of course the very friendly residents of Mission Hill all sharing in an enormous potluck of food from almost every local restaurant in the area, a feast for kings accompanied by some cool jaz, beer and wine, a wonderful silent auction. During the event, a series of awards were given out to local residents for their work in our community, all lead by Representative Jeffrey Sanchez who served as the Master of Ceremonies. The first Cherished Neighborhood Asset Award went to New England Baptist Hospital for consistently demonstrates neighborliness to the Mission Hill Community. Councilor Michael P. Ross was bestowed the Outstanding Public Award for his work representing the “District 8”. The Golden Broom Award went to Tina Savvidis, the owner of Mama’s Place, for maintaining a clean and welcoming shop. The Kevin W. Fitzgerald Friend of Mission Hill is given to a special person whose actions personify the boundless love for the neighborhood. This year the cherished award went to John Jackson, Administrative Coordinator at the Tobin Community Center, he has worked at the Tobin center for over twenty years, and was a founding member of the Mission Hill Youth Collaborative. Overall this year’s Savors of Flavors was a fantastic event for the local businesses, residents, and the community of Mission Hill.
