The Bill Richardson Dance
Sante Fe, NM (2013)
I photographed former New Mexico governor Bill Richardson for a Businessweek piece “How to talk to a dictator” in this weeks “How To” issue. More photos to come, but in the meantime, everyone do the Bill Richardson dance!

Muslims Journey to Mecca for the Hajj (Řج)
Spotlight Want to see more photos from this year’s Hajj? Search the hashtag #hajj, and visit the location page of The Holy Ka’aba.
Every year, between the the 8th to 12th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, more than 3 million Muslims make the journey to Mecca, Saudi Arabia for the Hajj, or “pilgrimage.” All able-bodied Muslims who can afford to make the journey must do so once in their lifetime.
The Ka’aba, which translates to “The Cube,” is the most sacred site in Islam, and during the Hajj, it is circled counter-clockwise seven times.
The Hajj began last week, and ends on Monday.
Presidential candidates ask their supporters to “Commit to Vote” on Facebook.
The presidential campaigns both sent out emails to supporters today encouraging them to call upon the power of their Facebook friends to get out the vote ahead of Election Day. Both emails link to the candidates’ interactive Facebook applic
ations. President Barack Obama’s email urged recipients to: “Reach out to your friends in Virginia and other battleground states…” and “Connect with your friends and urge them to commit to vote.” You can access the Obama app here:http://www.barackobama.com/commit. The email from Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s campaign read: “You can make a defining difference by doing something as simple as reminding your Facebook friends and family to get out and vote for Mitt.” It also noted that the app “empowers you to rally your social networks to help clinch this election.”Â
You can access Romney’s app here:http://www.mittromney.com/CommitToMitt.

Unless you’ve been living in a media black hole, you know that 16-year-old Gabby Doublas of Virginia Beach, U-S-A won gold in the women’s gymnastics all-around final on Thursday: USA’s Gabby Douglas crowned Olympic champion in dramatic gymnastics all-around final. And if you’ve been watching, you’ve definitely seen that behind this high-flying pint-sized powerhouse is one hell of a coach, Liang Chow, who’s had his own extraordinary journey as a gymnast on China’s national team to becoming one of the leading women’s gymnastics coaches in the world.
I love that photo above. America, indeed. Here’s a cool TIME profile on Liang Chow from last week: Liang Chow’s Gymnastics Coaching Journey: From Beijing to West Des Moines.(via angry asian man)
2 Years Later: The First Instagram Photo
Two years ago today, we tested the first photo upload to an app we called Codename. Three months later, in October 2010, Instagram launched to the public.
Today, 1 year and 9 months later, over 50 million people have shared more than 1 billion photos on Instagram. We’re humbled by the amazing photos shared every day on Instagram and the incredible community that’s formed around the application.
From everyone here at Instagram HQ, thanks for being part of the Instagram community!
